Earth Day events in South Florida, including free festivals

Happy Earth Day! With an emphasis on protecting the planet, South Florida features a variety of fun Earth Day fests and other events focusing on the environment in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties.

Many events are free and include entertainment and fun for the whole family. Some feature free plants and other free earth-friendly items, while supplies are available.

Earth Day is Monday, April 22, 2024, but most activities take place on other days throughout April.

Earth Day 2024 Events in South Florida

Broward

Hollywood

Marine Environmental Education (MEEC), 4414 N. Surf Road, Hollywood 33019, is featuring Earth Day month festivities 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13, on the beach. The event includes a beach cleanup. Other festivities include presentations and  educational programs.

Usually the weekend and holiday rate for beach parking is $4 an hour and $3 an hour Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Fort Lauderdale

Las Olas Oceanside Park in Fort Lauderdale is featuring Earth Day activities 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 13, and entry is free.

  • 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Beach sweep, Las Olas Boulevard and A1A
  • 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. MKT vendor market
  • 9:45 a.m. yoga, two for $10 with prior reservations
  • Noon to 3 p.m. Dillard Center for the Arts Jazz Combo

Weston

Free Earth Day event in Weston  is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Library Park, 4255 Bonaventure Blvd., Weston 33332, with interactive fun, educational booths, and DJ entertainment. Other fun includes a chalk artist.

Plantation

Earth Day in Plantation is 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, with free entry. The Earth Day fest includes educational booths, a farmers market, live entertainment, kids activity area, vendors, and rides.  Earth Day is at Volunteer Park, 12050 W. Sunrise Boulevard, Plantation 33323.

Deerfield Beach

Beach cleanup 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Saturday, April 20, in Deerfield Beach. Register online.  Gloves and other supplies are provided.

The first 30 volunteers receive free parking vouchers for the event. Eco organizations are featured at the event. The event is at 71 SE 21st Avenue, Deerfield Beach.

 

 

Hollywood

Live bands and environmental exhibits are featured at an Earth Day event 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the beach in Hollywood. Mother Ocean Music Festival is at the Hollywood Bandshell on Johnson Street.

Entry is free. Parking fees apply.

Fort Lauderdale

Earth Day Heal The Planet event with workshops, kids area, and entertainment is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at Esplanade Park, 400 SW 2nd Street, Fort Lauderdale 33312. The event includes food gardening information, live music and food vendors. Snap a photo with a tall globe. The event is hosted by Heal The Planet organization.

Sunrise Ikea

1 p.m. – 4 p.m. April 20-22 Earth Day events include food tastings, a Scavenger Hunt and Earth Day Fun Facts.  1 p.m. – 4 p.m. April 20 features a STEMobile.  Register online.

Ikea is at 151 NW 136th Ave, Sunrise 33325.

Some activities and events at IKEA are for those registered with the  Family Rewards program, which is free. 

Broward Parks

Weekend entry fees are waived Sunday, April 21, for Earth Day at participating Broward Parks.

Regular weekend and holiday fees for popular Broward regional parks, including TY Park in Hollywood, Tree Tops Park in Davie and Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield, are $3 per vehicle for up to 8 people. Some Broward parks always are free.

Dania Beach

Dania Beach is offering a beach cleanup from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, April 22, at Dania Beach Pier, 300 N. Beach Road, Dania.

Coral Springs

EarthFest for Earth Day and Arbor Day  is 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 27, at Sawgrass Nature Center, 3000 Sportsplex Drive 33065. EarthFest includes raffles for a rain barrel and other prizes, nature exhibits, and vendors.

Activities for kids are included. Entry is free. Parking is free.

National Water Dance, Key Biscayne

Turtle Fest, Miami Beach

From April 1 through Oct. 31 each year, Miami Beach residents, businesses and visitors are reminded to “Flip the Switch” and turn down the lights to protect sea turtle nesting season.

To kick off the awareness campaign, the City of Miami Beach will celebrate the annual arrival of sea turtle nesting season with a Turtle Fest on April 20, 2024, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Altos Del Mar Park with what plans to be a “turtley awesome” day of family-friendly activities.

No admission charge.

The park is located at 76th Street and Collins Avenue, Miami Beach. 

Earth Fair, North Miami 

The City of North Miami's District 2 Councilwoman Kassandra Timothe, MPA is hosting the 2024 Earth Fair at Enchanted Forest Park, April 20, 2024, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Join in the fun as they celebrate Earth Day with live entertainment, food trucks, electronic and hazardous waste recycling, free plants, giveaways and artists in attendance. Admission is free.

The Rabble Wine Earth Day Pop Up Experience at Smorgasburg, Wynwood

The Rabble Wine Earth Day Pop Up Experience stops at Smorgasburg’s plant-based weekend Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21 from 2-8 p.m. Saturday the brand launches its year long partnership with Smorgasburg. The mini festival features a live painting of the New Rabble and Smorgasburg Sustainable Rose Bar, holistic wellness and workout with Leslie Perez (Baby By Leslie), a yoga class with Maria Batista, a plant care class with Paola Jimenez, art from recycled materials, community garden and plant-based nutrition workshops. There will also be live music by Clean Cut Band (Saturday), Lotus Collective (Sunday), DJ Katie Ox (Saturday & Sunday). Admission is free.

Miami Design District

Landscape Design Tour

Monday, April 22, 2024, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at Jungle Plaza, 3801 NE 1 Ave., Miami Design District

This educational Earth Day tour through the Miami Design District's urban canopy will offer insights on the multi-faceted collaborations and evolution of the District's longstanding commitment to landscape design and biodiversity.

Presented by Dr. Carl E. Lewis, Director and Dr. Jason Downing, Director of Research and Orchid Biologist from Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and Nathan Browning, Principal and Spencer Woodard, Ethnobotanist from Island Planning Corporation. The Tour at 10 a.m. departs from Jungle Plaza and concludes in Jade Alley with light refreshments. Then from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. visit the Million Orchid Project STEMLab Bus, a state-of-the-art mobile orchid propagation.

Homestead

Adventure Day, Fruit & Spice Park

Saturday, April 20, 2024, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at Fruit & Spice Park, 24801 SW 187th Ave.,
Homestead.

Event promises lots of fun with your family and craft activities for kids, photo backdrops, scavenger hunts and tours of what’s in season.

Tickets: $2 Adults and children age 6-up; 5 and under get in for free. Tickets paid at entry, not available online. There will food trucks for your park picnic. For more details, visit: Adventure Day.

Ikea in Miami

Earth Day event is 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. April 22 features a Spin The Wheel game and food tastings of plant balls and veggie balls. The game is for those registered with the  Family Rewards program, which is free.

Palm Beach County

Boynton Beach

FREE Earth Day Celebration: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024, in Centennial Park, 120 E. Ocean Ave., Boynton Beach. There will be an Eco Market & Expo, plus a free tree giveaway, while supplies last, music, raffles, face painting, bounce houses, kids activities and more.

Free parking: On the corner of Boynton Beach and Seacrest boulevards. Accessible parking will also be available. 

Daggerwing Nature Center Boardwalk

Boca Raton

Special Event: Earth Day
Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All ages, FREE* (Reservations not required)
Celebrate Earth Day at Daggerwing Nature Center! Bring the family to learn easy ways to help the planet while having fun. This special event will feature live animal encounters, interactive activities, butterfly plant sale, ladybug release, crafts and much more! Activities will promote awareness of environmental protection and earth conservation.

Note: Some activities may involve minimal cash or check donation to Friends of Daggerwing Nature Center.

Wellington

Earth Day & Arbor Day Celebration: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Community Center, Wellington Amphitheater, 12100 Forest Hill Blvd. Enjoy a FREE day of fun and learning at Wellington’s Earth Day & Arbor Day Celebration on the Town Center Promenade. Join the Village Council at the start of the event for the planting of a Pond Cypress Tree in honor of Arbor Day.

Activities include:

  • Earth friendly products and demonstrations
  • Free glitter tattoos
  • Free native seedlings
  • Free raffle for a Red Maple Tree in a 7-gallon container
  • Giveaways
  • Learn proper tree pruning with Wellington Public Works staff

West Palm Beach

Earth Day Celebration at Okeeheelee Nature Center, Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 7715 Forest Hill Blvd., West Palm Beach.

Families of all ages welcome, FREE (No reservations required)

Activities will promote awareness of environmental protection and earth conservation, including live animal encounters, crafts, environmental presentations, guided nature walks, a rehabilitated animal release, raffles to benefit the Center, environmental exhibitors, vendors, and more. Everglades, Big Cypress

What better way to celebrate Earth Day than to take a trek through the Big Cypress Reserve with a seasoned nature guide. Clyde Butcher's Big Cypress Gallery is hosting a walk on the wild side between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, for $10. Each tour lasts about 45 minutes.
