Wrapping up Week 3 of Journaling through the Bible in 90 Days

Last week I decided to skip the daily posts. I was finding that, in my reading and journaling I was holding back a bit, concerned about what you, my dear readers, may think about what I was writing, rather than what I really felt the Holy Spirit was telling me.

And so I made a change.

I kept on journaling in my journal but opted not to share daily here.

I hope and pray this did not discourage any of you and stop any of you from reading. The reading is hard. All the fighting and death and destruction is no fun. But the redemption is still beautiful. (Oh, Ruth and Naomi and Boaz! And David’s patience and inquiring of the Lord….)

This past week I read on my couch, at my kitchen table, snuggled under covers in bed, in front of a fire in a winery rent house in Sonoma, at the airport and in a doctor’s office. I carried my Bible and journal to so many places to read, listen and pray.

Looking back over my journaling, I can see that the recurring theme I heard was trust in God. Go to Him. Make HIM your strength. Don’t do “whatever is right in your eyes,” instead ask the Lord and follow His direction.

Asking, for me, is the easy part. I stop and ask all the time.

“Father, help me out. Show me the way. I want to honor you.” I say a variation of this things so often. I want to do as He instructs.

Perhaps what I am really hearing here is “Pause. Listen. Don’t rush. Really listen.”

I think perhaps that’s my real takeaway from the week’s readings: I need to make space to listen so He can be my strength.

Do any of you feel like you are hearing Him well? What do you do to listen? If you have any thoughts to share on how you listen and how you hear Him, I’d love to learn from you in the comments. My bet is many others would, too.

If you are up for it, I’d also love to hear what you heard this week and how the reading is going for you. It’s so encouraging for me to hear your stories.

I’ll be back tomorrow with the schedule, reflection questions and resources for week 4.

Thank you for reading with me.

Love,

Amy
