It was about four years ago that our schools closed down here in Sacramento because of COVID.

I remember leaving my classroom that day thinking we’d be back in a couple of weeks.

I actually didn’t end up returning for another twelve months or so.

I began teaching my ELL Newcomers class remotely in April, and then our district continued with distance learning until, I believe, early spring of the following year. I’m grateful we didn’t start again until we teachers were vaccinated.  Hybrid teaching (on-site and on Zoom concurrently) was no picnic that spring, but very, very few students showed-up in person.
