georgie tees featured on CreatedByChicks!

I can't believe it's taken me this long to mention our feature on CreatedByChicks, a new site all about featuring "chick"-made products and "chick"-owned businesses. And to think we were featured alongside the likes of Cupcake Chic and Raw Melissa...now that's super sweet!

Here's an excerpt from the review:

[georgie tees] maternity & infant tees are full of quality & a hilarious sense of humor. We all should be able to laugh at ourselves, right? Right...especially when we're feeling pukey. First, I wanted to highlight my favorite Georgie Tee, the “Mama Lisa” shirt. Maybe it’s the artist in me or maybe it’s just that this tee is so stinkin’ clever...whatever it is, I completely love it!!! I happen to have this tee in the Grape color scheme (shown in detail above). I was shocked by how soft & luxurious Georgie Tees shirts are! Completely heavenly!!!
You can read the full review here or by clicking on the link below:

We love that CreatedByChicks, a site by dear friend Quinn Curtis of CreatedByMom.com, chose to highlight georgie tees and are seriously flattered she did so. Take some time to read the other featured chicks on the site. If you haven't discovered them yet it's about time you did! --Emily

My new favorite tee

Today's fashion trend tuesday is simply a photo showing me sporting my new favorite tee. Everyone needs a favorite tee, and as of my birthday this past Saturday, this is it:

I mentioned this tee in last week's post and told you all I'd post a picture of me FINALLY getting to wear it. While the photo isn't the most flattering it is proof that for once I didn't return something Nathan gave me as a gift. (I did exchange the chef's knife he bought me, but more on that in a later post when I document the surprise birthday party Nathan managed to pull off for my big 3-5.)

By the way, if you don't get why this tee is so perfect for me and so funny, let me know and I'll explain it to you...after I've given you a hard time for not getting it. Now that I've shared with you my favorite tee, I'd love to know yours! Do you have a favorite t-shirt you'd wash and wear every day if you could? Do share! --Emily

Busted on my birthday

Actually, my birthday isn't until this Saturday and no, I haven't done anything wrong but I was trying to come up with something fun yet quick I could post for today's fashion trend tuesday. (Fun because it's been seriously NOT fun unpacking this house and quick because I'm figuratively and literally cross-eyed every night due to sheer exhaustion from said unpacking.) The one thing that immediately came to mind is the totally awesome t-shirt Nathan bought me for my birthday:

The tee is from BustedTees, which has some dang hilarious stuff (though you may want to check it out when the kids aren't around...a few might warrant some unwanted explanations). The tee is here but I'm not allowed to wear it until Saturday even though I keep reminding Nathan I prefer to celebrate my birthday all month week long.

If you know me well then you know this is the perfect t-shirt for me. I tend to be a grammar/spelling/chocolate (wait, how did that last one get in there?) snob. I get a good laugh when I discover a misspelled word someplace like a news headline or caption. That doesn't mean I don't have my fair share of typos; when it comes to blog posts on this site (or emails to friends or Facebook status updates or tweets) I'm a bit less concerned.

Once I finally get to wear my new tee I'll be sure and have Nathan snap a photo for a follow-up post. It will be proof that for once I didn't return something my husband bought me! --Emily

P.S. By the way, I enjoy freelance work like writing press releases, editing blog posts, etc. so if you or anyone you know would like some help crossing their T's and dotting their I's, let me know! emihill{at}gmail{dot}com

cheeky & swank: the perfect combination

I much prefer doing a take it off tuesday than a fashion trend tuesday. Exercise and fitness is much more my thing than the latest styles and trends but since my brownie, bread and Oreo diet isn't having the desired effects I'm not feeling the fitness thing this week. What I am feeling is super cute styles for parents and baby, and that's what Cheeky & Swank is all about!

Cheeky & Swank, a company "for cheeky kids & swank parents," has something for everyone, from bibs and burp cloths for baby to stylish tees and bags for moms and dads. One of my favorite items is their Magna-Bib. Kind of sounds like a superhero, doesn't it? And it just might be with its high-temperature, special magnets hidden in the neck. The magnetic closure means no scratchy Velcro and no snagged tights coming out of washer or dryer. Velcro is probably my least favorite. The tie-on bib is a step above because it stays secure but it can be quite the battle trying to tie it on a very hungry, very squirmy baby. I love the idea of a bib with a magnetic closure. Thank you, Cheeky & Swank!

Beyond bibs the company also has a beautiful collection of blankets, burp cloths and slings. And let's not forget about those swank parents! I absolutely love their Blushing Bird and Madame Butterfly tees for Mom and Owl messenger bag. Their tees for Dad are pretty cool too (the V-Dub long-sleeve is my fave). Oh, and I forgot to mention their cute line of apparel for kids. I just might have to purchase the Miss Peacock smocked top for my little girl. So sweet!

In our house being cheeky will either get you in trouble (those over the age of 8) or make Mom & Dad laugh (those under the age of 4). And style has nothing to do with it. If you're looking for that perfect combination you'll want to check out Cheeky & Swank. They've got it down perfectly! --Emily

excellent Etsy find: WrenWillow

Twitter is what inspired our new excellent Etsy find feature, and Twitter is where I found today's Etsy shop. WrenWillow (named after the artist's daughter) is a collection of one-of-a-kind, hand-drawn and hand-dyed infant clothing.

The mom behind WrenWillow was looking to dress her daughter in clothing that was a little unusual and a bit edgy. She also wanted clothing that was soft and baby-friendly yet beautiful and unique. After not finding what she was looking for, and in true mompreneur style, she started designing her own onesies.

WrenWillow's designs are actually dyed into the fabric so they don't feel stiff or scratchy. You won't find any plastic appliqués or uncomfortable accents on WrenWillow clothing. All of this makes for a wonderful infant shirt, but what makes these shirts fabulous is the artwork, and these tees are truly works of art.

My favorites are the Love Bird, Autumn Fairy and Green Dragon. But WrenWillow has more than just infant and kid tees. You'll also find a few adult t-shirts and the cutest diaper covers. (I'm thinking of buying my little girl one for Christmas!) And if you find a design you like but want it in a different color scheme or on a different style/size tee, just let her know by requesting a custom item. Happy shopping! --Emily

Tall Moms is "long" on style

I'm somewhere between 5'9" and 5'10" depending on when I last did yoga and/or how long I've sat at the computer. Though that's not considered tall for a model it does cause a bit of trouble when shopping for clothes (yes, the grass is always greener...). I don't struggle so much with a long torso--I'll leave that for LeShan--but I do fight for length when it comes to jeans, skirts and dresses. That's why I love Tall Moms, a shopping blog for the "vertically blessed."

Rachel, the women behind Tall Moms is just under 6'1" and on a mission to help women of taller-than-average height find great clothes, from capris and dresses to pajamas and pants. Every post highlights a different product, and I've loved discovering new places to shop online that specifically cater to tall women like Tall Girl Shop and Long Elegant Legs. (Though I'm not challenged by a long torso, DownEast Basics, Shade, and Layers are all great sites for longer length tops.)

By the way, I didn't love my height until college when I finally learned to appreciate the couple extra inches I had over my "competitors." (I had to bend my knees under my dress at my junior prom so I was shorter than my date!) But loving the height has not meant loving the shopping. Of course my roommates never felt sorry for me when I couldn't find jeans long enough to cover my ankles, but I always reminded them it was easier to hem a pair of pants then add length!

But I digress. If you're "vertically blessed" and have fought the good fight when it comes to shopping, then you'll want to become a daily Tall Moms reader. (I think I'm going to head over to Tall Girl Shop after reading Rachel's post about their extra long pajamas!) And if you're expecting, visit Rachel's maternity clothing site RG Maternity, which has designs perfect for the preggo and tall! --Emily

earth friendly fashion

You love clothes and you love the environment, but unfortunately they don't always go hand in hand. Many of the processes used to create the fabric are killing the environment like pesticides, and dyes. Today's fashion trend tuesday highlights some eco-friendly fashion in celebration of Earth Day. You can love your clothes and love the enviornment at the same time! These products are made from recycled glass, plastic salvaged from a dump site, bamboo, and organic cotton. Who knew we could be so resourceful?! Just click on the images below to find out where and how you can purchase some neat earth loving wear.

With several websites catching on to this earth friendly trend, georgie tees is also playing a part in featuring organic cotton tees and onesies. Go ahead, hug a (bamboo) tree, after all you just might be wearing it. --LeShan

anti-fashion, fashion blog

Can you tell which image is from the 70's and which is the latest trend? (The one on the left is Mischa Barton.) I think they actually made these high waisted pants even uglier, talk about the ultimate "mom" pants!

"Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months". --Oscar Wilde.

Don't get me wrong, I love fashion, I think I have always loved it. Like when I used to sew my own mini skirts when I was 10 years old. Fashion has always been a part of society and will always be. The thing that rubs me wrong like a cheap suit, is when following every latest trend becomes what we live and die by. Some of the best designers are the ones who followed their own style and didn't go after the latest this or that. Be your own designer, break some rules and start your own fashion trends. "Trust with your heart and not your head" --Dove Chocolate foil (so much wisdom in a little wrapper). Many of the best fashion designers did just that; take for example: Betsy Johnson, crazy, girly, and fun wear; Ralph Lauren, classic yet always with an edge that is all its own, and one of my favorite tees designer, Amy Tangerine, unique, cute and comfortable. All of these designers did their own thing, they followed their heart.

No one has ever been a trend setter by following the latest trends! Fashion is only ugly when it's not your own.--LeShan

the laughs will go on...with georgie tees!

Sometimes for fashion trend tuesday we like to toot our own horn, or rather share with you a site or blog that toots it for us! (The truth? LeShan isn't feeling well and so our fashion trend expert isn't able to give you her typical insight and wisdom; you've just got lame ol' me today!) But still, this is a fabulous review and a really fun blog to boot, so fashion trend tuesday isn't a total loss!

Andrea Yanke, an expectant mother-to-be, reviewed our "oh, baby!" maternity tee on her blog,
The Laughs Will Go On:

I got a bunch of comments in church on my 'Oh, Baby!' shirt the other day though! Yeah...unique, non-Walmart brand clothing draws more attention than I thought. I also love that their maternity tee's (all of their stuff actually!) is 100% cotton! Yay! Cotton rocks. :) Really it does. It's soft, and never EVER EVER itchy. So I'd say the 100% cotton is a big bonus - especially for maternity tees cuz lots of them have a certain percent of spandex or something in there to give them more stretch. But this one still has stretch...I'm not having twins (boo hoo!!) so I think I'll make do without the extra stretch this time around! At least I sure hope so! haha. ;)

Georgie Tees also has some of the CUTEST baby clothing. If only I had twins I think I would get all of their twin onesie sets - they are just adorable!
If you read the rest of our review on The Laughs Will Go On you'll get a special code for 20% off your georgie tees purchase! And if you haven't visited our site lately you'll find a few styles are currently 50% off--that's some very fashionable savings! --Emily

What's Hot For Tots features georgie tees!

There comes a time when it is simply undeniable that life imitates art. Never has this been so true than with Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece of Mona Lisa. When he was painting the iconic femme fatale, do you think that he knew he was depicting the way we regard motherhood? Some days it is with a half-smile but everyday being a mom brings about love, fascination and wonder!

And so begins What's Hot For Tots' review of our "mama lisa" tee from our new artistic line. I thought it fitting to highlight this fashionable new tee and its fabulous review for fashion trend tuesday. Why is it a fashion trend? Because we custom designed our "mama lisa" tee so it would have a style that makes it perfect for moms-to-be and moms-who-are.
Cut longer than most maternity tees yet with a slim silhouette, and then made from the softest pima cotton with the perfect amount of stretch, our "mama lisa" tee flatters most every figure. I'll tell you a secret: It won't be the only tee in our artistic line for long!

What's Hot For Tots goes on to say: Never before {and never again} has an ordinary painting evoked such a complex and dynamic arrays of emotions... And when art imitates your life, wear your passion close to your chest... or rather on your chest with your Mama Lisa t-shirt from Georgie Tees!

We couldn't have said it better ourselves. We'd love for you to read the full What's Hot For Tots review, as it's one of the best we've heard! And after you're done browse their "celeb's faves" for more fashionable products reviewed by the What's Hot For Tots Team. --Emily

celebrity expecting!

Okay the celebrity I am speaking of isn't exactly headlining the news, although lately that's probably a good thing. I'm talking about one of the most celebrated woman in history, Mona Lisa. Her demure smile and unabashed beauty, make her easy on the eyes, but recent studies suggest it might be something more than just her outer appearance that makes her so alluring. Scientists suggest that Mona Lisa may have been expecting. Because of a veil that Mona Lisa is wearing over her shoulder, common to Italian Renaissance women who were expecting. It must be that inner glow that all expecting moms posess when creating nothing short of a miracle! That's why we thought it fitting that we create our own version of mama lisa to help you get your glow on!!! --LeShan

cheap therapy!

I can't say that blogging comes as naturally to me as it does for some people, but I will give it credit as good therapy. Especially when you take into account that my best friend and business partner lives on the other side of the country...I'll take all the help I can get! That's probably why we had to create something new to add to our fun and humorous maternity tees. We thought, what goes well with humor? Well, "artistic" flare of course! The new artistic line will feature our Mama Lisa tee with a modern yet feminine touch. Our new custom tee is made of the softest pima cotton with a bit of stretch, and longer fit, so it works great with moms-to-be or moms-who-are. I personally can't wait to wear mine! Also new to georgietees, is the lap tee. We think it's nifty because it offers the same comfortable, fun tee for the growing toddler. We know your toddler is learning to express themselves, our humorous lap tees make it even easier!

Youv'e seen the latest on georgietees, now you can hear the latest. Check out our podcast with the ladies who bring us The Madness of Motherhood show. What a great experience to talk with these fun women who are mompreneurs helping other mompreneurs. They share the same ups and downs as the rest of us, and understand what it's like trying to juggle pb&j's and emails. Being a mom and trying to run a business isn't easy, but can be so rewarding. That's why we believe that humor truly is the only way to survive! --LeShan
