RAMADAN: Three Shot, School Burned Down as Muslim Rioting Continues in Sweden

The violent suppression of free speech in accordance with Islamic texts and teachings continues.

Once again we are subjected to the violent suppression of speech of others in accordance with Islamic law. We have fundamental freedoms in the West and we must not abridge over freedoms in submission to violent intimidation.

Swedish cities saw police vans, cars set on fire, police injured as a result of rioting by Muslims opposed to demonstrations by Danish politician Rasmus Paludan. Paludan’s rally, with a planned Quran burning, was supposed to take place last Thursday afternoon, but was subsequently canceled. Islamic violence and rioting ensued nonetheless. Once again, the left-wing media is blaming the victim, blaming free speech, not the rioters and destroyers.

I do not support book burnings. Nazis burn books. The antidote to bad speech is more speech.

Freedom of speech is the foundation of a free society. Without it, a tyrant can wreak havoc unopposed, while his opponents are silenced. Putting up with being offended is essential in a pluralistic society in which people differ on basic truths. If a group will not bear being offended without resorting to violence, that group will rule unopposed while everyone else lives in fear, while other groups curtail their activities to appease the violent group. This results in the violent group being able to tyrannize the others.

Islamic law forbids criticism of Islam, Quran, Muhammad. If they cannot be criticized in the West, we are in effect accepting Islamic law as overriding the freedom of speech. This would establish Muslims as a protected class and prevent honest discussion of how Islamic jihadists use the texts and teachings of Islam to justify violence and supremacism.

Any criticism of jihad terror that examines its ideological roots in Islam is called Islamophobia, The word is used to intimidate people into thinking there is something wrong with opposing jihad terror. This deforms our response to terrorism by placing off-limits any examination of its guiding ideology, and effectively enforces Sharia blasphemy laws in the US by placing Islam, Quran, Muhammad beyond criticism.

If speech that offends a group is outlawed, that group has absolute power, and a free society is destroyed. A group that cannot be criticized cannot be opposed. It can work its will no matter what it is, and no one will be able to say anything to stop it.

Three Shot, School Burned Down as Rioting Over Anti-Islam Activists Continues in Sweden

Violent riots continued over the weekend in Swedish cities in reaction to anti-Islam Qu’ran-burning activists, with three people shot and injured by police in Norrköping and a school set on fire in Malmo.

Since Thursday, Sweden has seen rioting across several cities in response to the activities of Danish anti-Islam activist Rasmus Paludan and his group Stram Kurs (Hard Line), who have held or have promised to hold demonstrations across the country, which have included the burning of the Islamic Qu’ran.

On Sunday, a violent riot broke out in the city of Norrköping, with around 150 people taking part in the violence. Three protesters were injured after police fired warning shots following a group of people attacking officers, according to a statement from the police.

Police say the three people were injured as a result of the ricochet of bullets fired as warning shots by the officers and all three were taken to a local hospital to treat their injuries. The three were also arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. In total, the rioting is said to have lasted just over five hours.

In the southern multicultural city of Malmo, police were alerted to cars being set on fire by rioters shortly before 11 pm on Sunday evening in the no-go area of Rosengård.

“It started with several people carrying out car tires, debris and garbage and setting them on fire, and also stealing rental car trailers from a petrol station,” police spokesman Patric Fors told newspaper Expressen.

“We are trying to get the emergency services in, but we are met with an intense stone-throwing from young people,” Fors said and noted around a hundred people took part in the rioting.

At around midnight, a local school in the area was also set on fire, causing extensive damage to buildings housing classrooms for elementary students.

“The school will continue to be a safe place even if one of the buildings is destroyed,” the school’s principal Cecilia Larsson told broadcaster SVT.
