Twitter Files: Chinese Employee Told Coworkers Censorship Is Bad, Got Shut Down

Elon Musk’s Twitter released another batch of internal discussions on Monday, which revealed that an employee from China tried to warn fellow Twitter employees that censorship is wrong. The employee was then shut down by a coworker who bizarrely retorted: “censorship by a government is very different than censorship of the government.”

“Maybe because I am from China, I deeply understand how censorship can destroy the public conversation,” a Chinese Twitter employee said to colleagues during an internal discussion about whether or not to ban then-President Donald Trump’s account.

A fellow Twitter employee responded to their Chinese coworker saying, “I understand this fear, but I also think it’s important to understand that censorship by a government is very different than censorship of the government.”

As the saying goes: Knowledge is power.

While some may view you as a pariah, many of us (myself included) see you as a messenger of the truth.

A truth some can’t handle.

Don’t ever stop what you’re doing.

Someone is listening. I am listening.

Thank you for what you continue to do.

People love to censor what ‘they’ find offensive or what ‘they’ don’t like, whether it’s political, ideological or social, but…when the same thing happens to them and ‘they’ cannot ‘control’ the narrative or the information being presented…why…it is an outrage.
Censorship, for the most part, is bad for a ‘free’ society, but there are times when it is called for…’age appropriate’ censorship is one. You don’t push things on young children that they are not ready for or experienced enough to really understand. ‘Societal censorship’ or what we might call ‘moral censorship’ is the other one. When the ‘morals’ of a society fall or even start to fall…that society is on its way down a black hole.
‘Free speech’ is a hallmark of a free society, but as with all things, free speech must be wielded with care. An example would be ‘yelling fire’ in a crowed theater. It is not illegal, per se, to yell that, but you will be responsible for what happens after you yell it and a panic ensues and people are injured or killed. Then, again, much of ‘free speech’ is coupled with ‘common sense’…and common sense seems to be in short supply, these days.
