Lara Trump, wife of Donald Trump’s son Eric Trump, and Donald Trump Jr. took aim at the Department of Justice, which is the parent agency of the FBI, classifying the raid as “weaponizing the justice system” fueled by the Biden administration.
Story continues below advertisement“They are terrified. He’s going to announce any day that he’s running for president in 2024,” Lara Trump told Fox News. “This is a very convenient way to just throw a little more mud on Donald Trump as though they haven’t already done enough.”
Donald Trump Jr., the eldest child of the former president, reacted on Twitter, writing: “Biden’s out of control DOJ is ripping this country apart with how they’re openly targeting their political enemies. This is what you see happen in 3rd World Banana Republics!!!”
Lara Trump said her father-in-law believes the search was pursuant to the presidential records Donald Trump brought back with him to his Florida home after leaving office. The National Archives said 15 boxes obtained from Mar-a-Lago earlier this year included materials marked as classified national security information and notified the Justice Department for further investigation. Under the Presidential Records Act of 1978, presidential administrations are required to preserve certain documents.
“Look, my father-in-law, as anybody knows who’s been around him a lot, loves to save things like newspaper clippings, magazine clippings, photographs, documents that he had every authority … to take from the White House,” Lara Trump said. “He’s been cooperating every single step of the way with the people that have questioned any of this.”
Eric Trump also took to social media after Trump released a statement about the raid, remarking that “we truly live in a third-world country.”
As many as 30 FBI agents conducted the raid of Donald Trump’s Florida home on Monday, taking boxes of records without reviewing their contents, sources told Fox News.

The FBI raided Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida and broke into a safe in his palatial home, the former president confirmed Monday.
Trump said in a message on his social media forum Truth Social that his home had been “raided, and occupied” and was “currently under siege” due to what he claimed was prosecutorial misconduct.
“Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before,” Trump wrote.
“After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate.”

FBI agents were reportedly searching for classified documents that Trump brought with him from the White House to Mar-a-Lago after his presidency ended.
For prosecutors to be able to prove that a crime was committed, they would need evidence showing that the parties involved in removing the documents from the White House knew that the documents were classified and knew that removing them would violate the law.
