Belief in God Reaches All-Time Low Among Americans

33

It explains a lot. A godless world is ….. hell.

Belief in God, Angels Reaches All-Time Low Among Americans

Christian Headlines: The percentage of Americans who believe in God, heaven and angels hit a record low in a new Gallup survey that also found belief in hell and the devil reaching a record low, too. The new survey, released Thursday, found that 74 percent of Americans say they believe in God, a decline from 79 percent in 2016 and 90 percent in 2004 who answered that way. Similarly, 69 percent of Americans say they believe in angels and 67 percent in heaven – both significant declines from earlier polls (Christian Headlines).
Gallup: At the same time, nearly three in 10 U.S. adults do not believe in the devil or hell, while almost two in 10 do not believe in angels and heaven, and 12% say they do not believe in God. Frequent churchgoers, Protestants and Republicans are the most likely subgroups to say they believe in the five spiritual entities (Gallup).

The problem is that too many Amarxicans are members of a very large cult. They bow and worship at what the cult leaders tells them to do. Their high holy day is November 4, election day. What cult do I refer to? The Democratic Party. Who is their god? Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Many call themselves Catholics, Jews and Baptists and they all want heaven, but not many will end up there. I wonder how many Baptists were members of the KKK after the Civil War??? These say people lynched free Blacks. Tuskegee Institute recorded that from 1882 to 1968 more than 4,000 people were lynched by what they called Democrat Vigilante Groups. Of that number more than 2,800 were free Blacks while the remaining 1,200 or so were “radical Republicans” caught registering free Blacks to vote.

It reminds me of a Sally Fields movie, Places in the Heart, where she plays a woman whose husband is the sheriff in a Northern Texas country during the Depression. He happens to be shot and killed by a young Blacks teen who is drunk. Shortly later two trucks drive by Sally’s house dragging the corpse of that kid along the road. Later a Black man played by Danny Glover comes to help her raise cotton. One night a bunch of KKKers lynch him. The end of the film shoes them all in a church taking communion and those KKKers are among them passing the wafers.

I’m not sure what your point is. Blacks were often treated terribly in the earlier days of America. Have you checked the crime statistics lately? I think you may find things have changed since then.

It’s possible that one factor that added to the statistic that the belief in God is law with so many Americans might be because the theory of evolution is taught as an absolute fact in many American public schools.

This ’Absolute truth” is being mind- programmed into the thought of many young people in spite that evolution is in apparent conflict the , Entropy and Second Law of Thermodynamics as well as combinatorics along with probability theory.

Hate to burst your bubble Walter but Evolution is absolutely a scientific fact that is backed by mountains of evidence. Not only is it verified by many sources, such as the fossil record, but also by genetics/DNA.

The trouble is that Theists simply don’t understand it, because it is very complex, and it takes a certain amount of basic intelligence to grasp its concepts. But they also don’t want to understand it as it destroys many of the pillars propping up their religion which is built on a house of cards.

If we evolved over billions of years then it means we were not created by a magic fairy in 6 days. Btw there is zero evidence for this fairy nor for magic, while there is plenty of evidence of an old universe.

I happen to be an engineer so I’m fairly well acquainted with Entropy and the Laws of Thermodynamics, they have absolutely nothing to do with Evolution (they concern physical processes), so I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Additionally you’ve thrown out some math terms as well and that’s another non sequitur. Maybe you’re trying to sound sophisticated and think you’re able to fool people by using obscure words they won’t understand but some of us can see your smokescreen.

Incidentally if you reject science and reason, how do you determine what is truth and false? The rantings of goat-herders put in a laughably called ‘holy book’ from the Bronze Age?

I suggest you are a poser, posing as an engineer, but not really one. Some of the dumbest people are engineers, or are a member of any number of brainiac professions, it doesn’t mean a thing, so you can end the script. You can be brilliant in math, and not be able to tie your own shoes. I knew of a professor who was considered intelligent but drifty. He walked right into a car because he wasn’t paying attention. I could pick apart your comments but it takes too much energy. There are too many people like you, and it’s draining. What I will say is you betray your comments because you’re so arrogant and snarky, you think your response is impressive but there’s a million people like you, who seem to enjoy commenting while posing, insulting others, being arrogant and dismissive, because that’s what people who are not gifted believe gifted people do. They don’t. For one thing, it’s rude and boorish. For another thing, gifted folks are doing important things, not arguing about God in comboxes with people they don’t even know.
God exists. The universe has order, consistency, and is extremely mathematical. There is beauty and symmetry. It is said God’s language is math. You might read “The Evidential Power of Beauty” by Fr. Thomas Dubay.
One question, where are the missing links, the transitions between species? There are none.
God hid these things from “the wise” and revealed them to “the little ones”. Lots of atheists fight to be the smartest person in hell. I hope you are not one of those. God bless.

Meh, I’ve debated you theists for years, the pattern’s always the same. Insults, ad hominems, attacking credentials, then simply reasserting your false, unproven claims like ‘god exists’ and offering absolutely no evidence.

Not to mention you haven’t even begun to address any of the damning points I raised in both my comments on this page.

In other words, all you Theists offer is fluff, anger, posturing and zero substance. Saying “God bless” is the theist’s version of ‘FU’…it’s pretty hilarious that you all think you’re so ‘angelic’ and spotless when you’re flinging mud like anyone else.

We agree on one point-there are people who happen to be well educated but are total “losers” in other ways in life…I know a few personally like that. However when it comes to the subject at hand, science, I am definitely adept on this topic.

Mind you I excelled both in academics and athletics and have keen eye/hand coordination on top of being very fit…so while some nerdy types might walk into traffic absent-mindedly, don’t confuse me for one of those types.

As for yourself, what a funny name you choose for yourself…the vast majority of the Christian types I’ve seen are fat, unattractive slobs who do dead-end jobs. I suspect you’re probably a lonely old cat lady who screams at gays and women seeking abortions…I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re in the Westboro Baptist Church as well.

It seems you either didn’t read my post or you lack the basic IQ to understand it. Which means I’m probably wasting my time talking to someone intellectually far beneath me.

There are different ways of being ‘arrogant’ one is because you’re simply more educated and intelligent than someone else and they happen to be envious and know they can’t measure up so they try to tear you down by calling you haughty and similar words. See where we fit in that scenario?

Another way of being ‘arrogant’ is to falsely believe you have wisdom and feel you are superior to others…but you’re not entitled to feel that way since you lack knowledge and have no education, but in your case you think there’s a magic superman on your side…so you think you’re always in the right.

Which is why a silly old cat lady like you thinks she’s somehow better than scientists, engineers and other academics…but people like you just get laughed at wherever you go. Like that debate between Richard Dawkins and the Christian lady who got destroyed in a discussion over Evolution. As I recall since she was unable to refute his claims she got mad and had him thrown out of the building.

You can hate scientists all you want, but that doesn’t mean your god is real. You only think there is a Santa Claus, I mean Jesus, because you were brainwashed into your beliefs, and I’m here to tell you, you were lied to, Santa/Jesus is not real, so grow up.

So there’s an equation that “proves” your God exists?

E=mc^2 therefore God, QED? lol

Do you even know what you’re babbling about John?

Do you know what ‘proof’ or ‘evidence’ means? In my debates with Theists, I learned that they cannot tell fact from fiction, what is real or fake.

I’ll make it easy for you to understand. ‘Real’ is everything that is matter and energy that exists in our universe.

There is nothing outside this universe. There are only silly myths from the 2000 years ago that claim a magical world exists, but it doesn’t.

You were fooled into believing these myths like talking snakes, flying horses, talking burning bushes, etc by your parents, who themselves were brainwashed.

Because you were a very young child, you didn’t know how to think for yourself and didn’t know snakes can’t talk, people don’t walk on water, virgins cannot have babies and so on.

If your parents taught you Christians the moon was made out of cheese, 1.5 billion of you would be fighting with educators/scientists to have that bs taught in our schools, the same way you’re doing now with ‘Creationism/Intelligent Design’…smuggling god in through the back door.

If there was a real god, we wouldn’t be arguing over it…it’d just be an accepted fact and we’d all have to live under his rules whether we liked it or not.

But thankfully there isn’t because the Abrahamic god is like Kim Jong Un, an evil dictator.

Science flies us to the moon, religion flies us into skyscrapers.

If people with warped minds like yours were still in charge, we’d still be in the Dark Ages and scientists/free thinkers would be thrown in jail or killed. Unfortunately Islam remains stuck in the Dark Ages and will need to be defeated.

It is thanks to Secularists/Atheists/Scientists in the enlightened West, that you enjoy living in a fairly safe, advanced, technological society.

What’s funny is that your death cult is dying off. In time you’ll fade into history like the followers of Zeus and Thor and future generations will talk about Christians the way we discuss ancient Greek and Roman religions.

On a separate note, hopefully Islam will meet a rapid and terrible end also though it might take a world war. To your credit, at least Christians are generally peaceful.

Which God are we talking about? The Muslims believe in God, that God tells them it’s good to do all kinds of things that by a common sense, rational, standard are stupid and/or evil.

Jews and Christians will counter that their God is a different God from the Muslim God and that he only tells believers to do things that are good by a common sense, rational standard. But in that case if common sense and reason can guide us to the common sense, rationally good thing to do, why do we need the Judeo-Christian God to tell us what to do?

A God based, religious, moral code is essentially an obedience to a higher authority moral code. A mysterious, hidden, unperceivable, supernatural, otherworldly, higher authority. So if God were to command you to kill someone you have to obey if you wish to be moral. God tells you to kill your child, if you want to be moral, you kill your child. But then right before you’re going to kill your child God tells you don’t kill your child, you have to obey if you want to be moral and so you obey and don’t kill your child. Reason and the facts of reality must be ignored and evaded in a God based moral code.

If Abraham had been truly moral in a rational, common sense, definition of morality, he would have told God, “No, I refuse to even consider murdering my innocent, beloved, precious, child just to obey and please you! What kind of a sick and depraved God are you to even suggest such an evil?”

I’m sure like me, most of you were raised in Christianity. The difference is that I educated myself on other belief systems and also coldly, objectively analyzed Christianity and realized it’s as much a fraud and a lie as all other religions.

It’s actually a pretty pathetic, infantile, annoying, arrogant religion invented for the dumb masses, Islam is even worse. These silly desert fables were borne out of the harshness of living in such austere, terrible conditions.

The Christian God is a brutal slave-master, who created beings to judge and punish according to some arbitrary standard, mostly based on his mood and fidelity to following the faith blindly, rather than some ideal or objective moral standard like compassion for one’s fellow human beings.

One could also see it as a silly cannibal cult where its followers eat their god for some strange reason. This is what happens when you live in a pre-scientific age and think magic is real, you are unable to differentiate between myth and reality, facts/truth vs fiction.

I’ve found religions like Greeks, Romans, Hinduism, Buddhism to be eminently more evolved, erudite and civilized. I include other pagan religions that value nature and other humans as equals such as the Natives and Scandinavian traditions.

The trouble in western nations, esp. the US is the idea that you know best, every question has already been settled and one ancient mythology book (Bible) has all the answers to life, when in reality, it barely even scratches the surface.

If American kids were given a broader education, esp. on other faiths, cultures, they’d realize that maybe they were being myopic, narrow and provincial in their thinking.

Incidentally, before the recent Muslim migrant invasion of Europe, secular (non-believing) countries had the highest standard of living across all metrics and were the most peaceful nations….so in fact being godless isn’t hell Pam, it’s heaven on Earth.

I’m glad there is no (Christian or Islamic) Saddam Hussein in the sky judging us. It’s time we ditch these silly fairy tales and live in the 21st century. There is no afterlife or supernatural realm or science would’ve discovered it by now.

There is only the real, material world and this one beautiful planet. It’s up to us to make this world a better place, rather to allow religion or other ideologies (like Communism) to destroy it.

This is why people are leaving religions in droves. Thanks to the internet, they are choosing rationality and science over irrationality and superstitious nonsense. Free yourselves through education and leave that mental prison of religion your parents put you in.

Do keep in mind the question of the existence of a god is separate from the policies of the Dem party, which many on the Left don’t necessarily agree with. When it comes to Islam, 2A/gun rights, freedom, Israel, fighting wars, I’m with the Right/Cons.

When it comes to social programs, universal healthcare, caring for the poor/mentally ill, supporting LGBT, women, then I’m with the Left. But the Dem party today is pretty evil/corrupt and full of Jew-haters and supports an evil religion-Islam. So the Dems need to get their act together.

Meanwhile Republicans need to clean house too as they’re run by religious radicals and greedy corporate types, they also have a lot of corruption to deal with. Part of the problem with both parties is bribery, payoffs and other scams are pretty much accepted if not legal.

Marxism, or if you want to call it socialism, comes from religion. Socialism is religion in hidden form, it is religion pretending to be secular science. The moral code of altruism and self-sacrifice (“Need Makes Right”) comes from religion and it is the moral code that is used to justify, or more precisely, rationalize, both Marxism and Nazism.

“Facts don’t matter when you’re morally right.” – Alexandria Ocasio Cortez

Judaism prepared the ground for Christianity, and both, prepared the ground for Islam, Marxism, and Nazism.

Maybe you don’t consider yourself a socialist but only an advocate of the welfare state, or only an advocate of a few welfare programs here and there. But once you accept the principle that it is moral and justified to steal from Paul to fund Peter in one instance, you’ve accepted the principle of “Need Makes Right” in full. The rest, the road to full-blown totalitarianism, is only a matter of time.

“Socialism is really helping religion. The bigger the statism, the more people are accustomed to government rule over everything. The more people are ready for religionists to take over the lead away from the more secular side… the socialists are building the basis for totalitarianism but only the religionists are going to cash in on it and take over….

I believe that the medievals understood much better than the moderns on what basis to build a totalitarian society that would last and not collapse in less than a century. They did it. And the people in the rising religious movements today know that full well. They’re the ones who have millions, upon millions, upon millions, of followers and a real insight into the fact that economics is not the crucial factor in history but philosophy and culture [are the crucial factors that determine the course of history]….

Religion was the root of all evil from the beginning. It has ruled in disguised forms and still is. And now the disguise has to be stripped off for if there is to be a lasting totalitarianism. For a lasting totalitarian state, religion is the only means.” – Objectivist philosopher Leonard Peikoff

It’s not a one or the other choice, in fact the worst outcomes happen for people in either a totally Capitalist state or Communist.

In Canada and many European nations, you have a mixed Capitalist/Socialist system. This means that you leave gov’t out of business since they’re best at production but at the same time you don’t have the runaway greed that we did centuries ago.

At the same time, you’re meeting the needs of ordinary citizens. For example the mentally ill are unable to work and need supervision, are you going to kill them all? No obviously you need facilities for mental health to help them.

The same goes for universal healthcare (UHC). Who can afford a $100k surgery for example? Very few amongst us, which is why UHC is needed and is successful, except when the corporations try to dismantle it.

So we agree fascist/totalitarian states are the worst, whether they’re Leftist/Communist (think China, N Korea) or Rightist/Capitalist. You need something in the middle to benefit everyone.

You also need a social safety net for example if a major corporation decides to relocate to China, India and takes away all the jobs with them. What are people supposed to do, how will they survive?

It’s one or the other you can’t have some freedom and some slavery. Either each individual is free to pursue his happiness, neither sacrificing others to himself, nor sacrificing himself to others, or not.

In a free society those individuals who cannot support themselves have to rely on charity, there is no other way. Now, if you argue that charity would not be enough to cover the cost of supporting those few who cannot support themselves that’s a false argument, where do you think the government gets the money for its welfare programs? From those who produce, from every productive, self-supporting, worker. A government welfare program is charity pretending not to be charity.

Or you may claim that men are too depraved to be trusted to be compassionate and charitable, that’s an argument from religion, an argument derived from Original Sin. And it is provably false on its face, even now when the average American is being crushed by taxation and inflation charity websites like “Go Fund Me” do not lack donations, not to mention many, many, other charities.

In a free society depraved individuals and violent criminals have always been a tiny minority. The vast majority of men feel a profound need to be moral, their self-esteem and feeling of self-worth are derived from their sense of being moral.

The more closely a society approaches Laissez-Faire Capitalism, the more production, abundance, prosperity, innovation, and happiness are achieved. Free, happy, productive, capitalist people living in productive abundance are more generous, compassionate, and charitable. Before you can give a hungry person who cannot feed himself a loaf of bread you must first have the productive capacity to produce enough bread for yourself to survive and then enough extra bread to feed the person who cannot feed himself. That requires the freedom and productivity of Laissez-Faire Capitalism.

“We are not a capitalist system any longer: we are a mixed economy, i.e., a mixture of capitalism and statism, of freedom and controls. A mixed economy is a country in the process of disintegration, a civil war of pressure-groups looting and devouring one another….

There can be no compromise between freedom and government controls; to accept “just a few controls” is to surrender the principle of inalienable individual rights and to substitute for it the principle of the government’s unlimited, arbitrary power, thus delivering oneself into gradual enslavement. As an example of this process, observe the present domestic policy of the United States….

A mixed economy has to reach the day when it faces a final crossroad: either the private sector regains its freedom and starts rebuilding—or it gives up and lets the absolute state take over the shambles.” – Ayn Rand

There’s a great deal you’re getting wrong, starting with your binary thinking. It’s not a choice between ‘freedom and slavery.’ It’s a question of who is in charge of the means of production.

You’re also parroting the ideology of our capitalist overlords. If they’re “free” to exploit workers, that is supposedly a good thing for all. Yes let them horde billions while throwing a few crumbs our way, great system.

If you’re a rich person then I can understand where you’re coming from, but if you’re middle class or poor, then you’re just shooting yourself in the foot.

The funny thing is that you can’t see that uncontrolled greed eventually leads to the downfall of capitalism and the rise of communism, something I don’t want to see happen.

And ‘charity’ is a sick joke…let’s depend on handouts from the well off, while they horde vast treasures that workers helped to create. A mixed economy has proven itself to be the best solution, offering a balance in freedom and more equitable distribution of wealth.

What about corporate welfare? They’ve received billions, maybe trillions now in bailout money, incentives, tax breaks, etc, etc. If they paid their fair share, taxes would be lower and all social programs would be covered.

With a social safety net, you restore people’s dignity. Most humans want to have the pride of working and saving up. Very few want to ‘mooch off the system’ but there are some ofc…however the vast majority who can’t work are either physically or mentally prevented form doing so.

Under your system of charity, if nobody donates, people starve and die. There is no obligation on anyone to ‘give.’ Bad things can happen to anyone. Someone could be middle-class own a house, etc. but they get a severe injury and can’t look after themselves, insurance won’t pay them, etc…so what do they do?

At least with a social safety net they’re taken care of and it costs a fraction of the GDP…we give far more to companies in corporate welfare as mentioned but I don’t see you crying about that.

Like I said if you’re rich and saying this, then ofc you’re pushing for your tribe, but if you’re an average Joe, then you’re not helping yourself or your tribe but the rich. As I was saying you just have to look at western nations like Canada to see how wildly successful a mixed economy is and there’s nothing better.

The good thing is that I am able to try to become a millionaire and the state isn’t going to tax it all away. Under the US system you have monopolies that keep out the little guy and impose their hegemony on everyone. As for your quotes they’re meaningless as reality proves me right…a mixed economy works great.

Do not mistake religious people for real Believers. Religion is man made. Jesus saved His harshest language for the religious leaders of His day. I watched both my parents die, and each said they were not afraid to die, and the proof was far louder than their words. I have known real Believers and I believe the Truth of scriptures and the salvation plan through only Jesus Christ. Be careful John Wick, you somewhat remind me of myself in my younger days though I learned the true Way from parents and real Believers, It is true what scriptures say. Take a few moments to watch Dr. Rawlings video, “To Hell and Back”. He proved to himself there is life after death. He was a cardiologist. One can feel the Truth in his video. If you are open to it you will too. Just do this one thing for yourself. Be open minded. Evaluate the message therein. What have you to lose? Push aside the religious hypocrite crowd you have seen. What is a few minutes compared to eternity? Open your mind. I am not ashamed of the gospel. I have seen and heard too many things over my lifetime. Do this for yourself. Do not give in to what you feel that pushes you away from the Truth. Just do this once. If it is not true in your mind you have the choice to reject it but at least consider and evaluate what he says,
