A drag queen named Nicole Jizzington, or “Nikki Jizz” for short, performed for a group of middle schoolers Tuesday.

“I performed at a this middle school and had them kids losing it,” the drag performer allegedly posted in a tweet containing a video of the performance which occurred at Aspire Richmond California College Preparatory Academy in Richmond, California.

A screenshot of Nikki Jizz’s alleged tweet was shared by the popular Libs of TikTok account, which led to tons of online criticism.

The National Desk (TND) repeatedly reached out to the principal of Richmond Cal Prep, Tatiana Lim, to confirm the performance and learn who made the decision to bring it to the school, but never heard back. If a response is received, it will be added to this story.

Richmond Cal Prep serves grades 6 – 12, and is a public charter school authorized by the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD).

Charter schools are generally exempt from California state laws governing school districts, according to the California Department of Education, but they must apply for re-authorization at least every five years to keep their charter.

Charter schools must operate in accordance with state and federal law,” according to the California Charter Schools Association. “Charter school governing bodies are often subject to various laws that apply to nonprofit public benefit organizations, such as ethical financial practices, and public body rules, such as open meeting laws. Also, like all public school districts, charter schools must have an annual independent financial audit in accordance with state rules. Charter schools also have oversight from their authorizers (the local school district, county office of education or State Board of Education). Authorizers review financial reports, Accountability Plans, and they have the authority to conduct audits to determine if the charter school should be renewed at the end of the charter school’s term (usually every five years). An authorizer can revoke a charter school for violations of law, fiscal mismanagement, or if the school is not meeting pupil academic outcomes or the terms of its charter.”
