Traveling Abroad Writing Prompts for September 15, 2021 Freebie

Traveling! Are you a traveler? Have you traveled abroad? Do you have fond, surprising, terrible, or funny memories? These prompts might be for you. Again, six have a written prompt starter, and eight are picture-only. Many people could write an entire book about their travels, like Carolyn Howard-Johnson. She and her husband have been to about 80 different countries. Maybe you have, too, but hopefully, you will have at least some ideas for writing about traveling abroad.

Below are the picture prompts. Do any of these inspire writing? If a child attends your writing group, there is a picture for coloring to help behavior chemistries.

Carolyn Howard-Johnson was on a cruise when the pandemic hit. Things took a turn for the "interesting" and she and her husband were interviewed by Paul C. Thornton for his book, Cruising Interrupted.  It tells the true story of what happened, and it was quite an ordeal. Maybe that happened to you, or even someone you know. If not, you can probably imagine what the experience might be like.

How about Shanghai? My daughter's trip there was an educational experience, too, although nothing as exciting as a pandemic happened. What a beautiful city! We have a free instant download A to Z Shanghai PowerPoint with her pictures on the Wise Owl Factory blog for anyone interested. Or it might inspire some memories for people who have been there.

I have heard some people stick a pin in a map when blindfolded and then travel to the pinned area. I can't imagine doing that myself. This prompt is more of a "what if" story about someone who might try that approach. This would be a fiction prompt, I think.

There are additional prompts to be found in the free PDF. The link is above. These prompts are used in different ways including quick writes, warm-ups, and end-of-writing group activities. Some groups share their writing by reading aloud, and some do not. Whatever works for your group!

Thank you for reading, Carolyn Wilhelm

Here are links to previous prompts already shared.

The prompts are on Carolyn Howard-Johnson's Sharing with Writers and Readers Blog and post the 15th of each month.
