Tanzania Tourist Board gets new Chief Executive Officer

The Tanzanian president Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed Mr. Damasi Mfugale as the new Managing Director of the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB).

Damasi is the Chief Advisor, of Africa Chapter EBI International Consulting Group and former Hospitality Association of Tanzania (HAT).

He holds a Masters of Arts (MA) in International Hospitality and Tourism Management from IMI in Switzerland and is a seasoned hospitality industry person.

With twenty years of professional tourism and hospitality experience in Switzerland, the USA, Tanzania, and South Africa, Damasi has a progressive advancement and consistent achievement within the private sector and government-funded agencies and institutions. 

He has an extensive work experience as Chairman, Member of Boards, and Director in the tourism and hospitality industry.

From a tourism and hospitality perspective, Damasi possesses an excellent reputation for defining corporate direction, providing leadership by engaging employees, being customer-focused, and promoting individual and institutional objectives attainment. 

Being an inclusive and collaborative leader and a manager he strives to build strong commitment, competence, and motivation, at the same time fixing success processes to safeguard productivity, efficiency, effectiveness, and quality to achieve the essential performance results and organizational mission.

Taking a high-profile position in Tanzania’s tourism industry, the newly appointed TTB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) possesses an extensive tourism and hospitality professional background in both local and international networks.

Tanzania Tourist Board is a government organization that was legally established by the Tanzania Tourist Board Act, CAP 364 of 1962, and amended by act by act No. 18 of 1992 to create the Tanzania Tourist Board.

TTB was formed in 1993 after the disbandment of the Tanzania Tourist Corporation. The Board is mandated with the promotion and development of all aspects of the tourism industry in Tanzania.

Tanzania had targeted to raise its current 1.5 million tourists to 6 (six million) by 2025 through marketing and promotion strategies.

Making it a lead economic priority under her administration, President Samia had last year launched the Royal Tour documentary, targeting to expose Tanzania’s rich tourism heritage to the global travel map.
