Have you ever eaten at Chuy’s Tex-Mex Restaurant? It is one of my favorite places to eat tex mex food. While the food is delicious, I absolutely LOVE their creamy jalapeno chip dip. OMG! I could drink it with a straw! I’ve been working on making my own version at home and I finally made the BEST copycat recipe! This recipe is spot on! The best part about this recipe is that it is effortless to make! Creamy ranch dip with jalapenos, lime, and cilantro. We love the little kick of heat from the jalapenos! This creamy dip recipe is a MUST for your next taco night!
How to Make Chuy’s Creamy Jalapeño Dip
This delicious dip is super easy to make with only a few simple ingredients. Roughly chop some fresh jalapeno peppers. Place the peppers in a food processor or blender. Add fresh garlic and cilantro. Pulse until finely chopped. Add fresh lime juice, sour cream, and a packet of hidden valley ranch salad dressing mix. Pulse until thoroughly combined. Add milk to the mix until you reach your desired consistency.
Tips & FAQs for Making Chuy’s Jalapeno Dip
- Can substitute pickled jalapenos or diced green chiles for the fresh jalapeños.
- Is Creamy Jalapeño Sauce spicy? There is a little bit of heat from the fresh jalapenos. Make sure to remove the seeds and membranes of the fresh jalapenos to reduce the heat in the dip.
- Do not make the ranch dip packet. You are only going to use the dry mix.

This was good but it was too salty for my taste. I added some pickled jalapeños afterwards to the recipe to balance the salt. It went from good to absolutely fantastic after that.
I made this last night, it tastes delicious! Is is supposed to be runny? I followed the recipe exactly but omitted the milk. It is so thin that I could not use it as a dip, the consistantcy is more like a salad dressing. We don’t have a Chuys’s anywhere near us so I an not sure, is this the consistancy is should be? I think I may try adding some additional sour cream to make try to make it thicker.
The consistency is on point with Chuy’s
Love the dip, how long does it last in the refrigerator?
How can I make this low-fat? Have you tried low-fat sour cream or low-fat cottage cheese?
Thanks!
I haven’t tried this with low fat sour cream, but I would guess it would be fine. Not sure about cottage cheese in this…..
Super easy, super quick, yummy. I only had jar of jalapenos, can see where it would have better heat with fresh. I hate cilantro but will add some now that I’ve tasted it. Added a little Tabasco red and some green to give it a bit more kick. Thanks for sharing.
Have you tried subbing the sour cream with Greek yogurt?
I have not. If you try it, let us know how it turns out!
Can you refrigerate this dip? How long does it last?
I love this dip but it is slightly too runny. Any suggestion?
Use less milk
Has anyone tried this with dried cilantro instead of fresh?
If you do that, you will need 1/3 the amount of dried cilantro to fresh. Dried herbs are more potent than fresh.
Thank you so much for the recipe.it so yummy.
Ranch dip mix or ranch seasoning? Because in the text of the post you reference dip mix but in the ingredients list you say seasoning. They are two different packets and taste very different as well.
I use ranch seasoning mix.
Can I use any ranch mix packet! I don’t have time to make my own ranch mix
yes – that is what the recipe calls for
We live right down the road from Chuy’s and have always loved them, plus we’re originally from Texas, so Tex-mex is a big deal in my house! I did a taco night and at the last minute thought “we’ve always loved the jalapeno ranch dip from Chuy’s, I wonder if there’s a copycat recipe” and this one fits perfectly. Actually, my family said they liked it even better than the original! I used some well-stirred greek yogurt instead of sour cream because it’s what we had in the house (and we like the added protein and lower fat) and it was great; I also didn’t add the milk at the end, just because I like a chunkier dip consistency, and it was all the better because we could scoop more with a chip at a time. It paired really well with fish and shrimp tacos and an avocado-crabmeat quesadilla recipe I made that night as well. We put the remaining in a jar and have been using it for other things since then also. Definitely will make again.
I have missed this SO MUCH since moving back to the East Coast. I made it to top some Slaw/Shrimp tacos and maaaaybe there might be some left for them. My husband is even impressed I was able to recreate it. I didn’t tell him how easy it was thank you so much for this recipe!!
I love Chuys dip here in San Antonio there are many locations. The food there is ok not really Tex Mex. If you ever visit here there is way better Tex Mex places then Chuys.
Every party has a pooper, that’s why we invited you
