I am a huge fan of crockpot meals, especially this time of year. I don’t know about you, but I am really busy during the holiday season. The last thing I want to worry about is dinner. This recipe is super easy and tastes great. Chicken slow-cooked in chicken gravy mix, cream of chicken soup, and chicken broth. Serve the shredded chicken over rice and dinner is done. I used Uncle Ben’s Ready Rice, and dinner was ready in less than 5 minutes after walking in the door! Can’t beat that any time of year!
How To Make Chicken & Gravy in the Crockpot
This Crockpot Chicken & Gravy is SUPER easy to make. Simply place the chicken in the slow cooker, Season the chicken with salt and pepper. I sometimes use garlic salt or seasoned salt instead of plain salt. Once the chicken is seasoned on both sides, whisk together the gravy packets and soup. Pour the soup over the chicken and cook.
Once the chicken is cooked, shred it with two forks right in the slow cooker. We like to serve the chicken over white rice. Feel free to use cooked brown rice, mashed potatoes, or egg noodles. Heck, you could even serve this over some Texas toast for a chicken & gravy sandwich. If you are eating gluten-free, I think this would be great over cauliflower rice or spaghetti squash.
I used chicken gravy mix. Feel free to use any packet of gravy mix you prefer. If you want a thinner gravy, add about ½ to 1 cup of water or chicken broth to the soup mixture. Adding some water/chicken broth is a great way to stretch the gravy. The slow cooker gravy is the BEST part of the whole recipe!

- 2 (0.87-oz) envelopes of chicken gravy mix
- 1/2 cup water or chicken broth, optional
- hot steamed rice
Instructions:
- Place chicken in the slow cooker and season with salt and pepper, if desired.

- Before serving break the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces. Serve over hot steamed rice.
Notes:
- Do NOT make the gravy. You are only using the dry mix.
- Do NOT add water to the soup. Just use the soup right out of the can.
- Can use chicken thighs or tenderloins in place of chicken breasts.
- Can use frozen chicken breasts.
- You will need to cook on the higher end of the cooking time if using frozen chicken.
- Can add frozen vegetables to the mixture.
- I suggest using Unsalted Cream of Chicken Soup in this dish to control the sodium.

Urgent question…
Can you estimate the chicken weight? I usually need to double recipes for my family of six.
Want to cook this tonight.
about 2 to 2.5 pounds?
Can I make this a day ahead and warm in the crockpot the following day?
yes
Mine seems to be waterier can I fix it to be a bit thicker
Add some cornstarch to the crockpot to thicken up the gravy. Try whisking 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water and stir that into the slow cooker, Ley it cook for about 15 minutes on HIGH to thicken it up. Keep adding the cornstarch mixture until it reaches your desired consistency,
Can I use brown gravy mix if I don’t have chicken gravy?
I haven’t tested this recipe with brown gravy mix, but my guess is that it would be just fine.
Hi. Can this be frozen? Also, if adding frozen vegetables, do I wait until the end or add in with all ingredients?
Thank you in advance!
You can freeze the leftovers. Cook it and let it cool to room temperature. Transfer it to a freezer bag or freezer safe container and store in the freezer for up to 4 months.
Adding veggies – it would just depend on how tender you want your vegetables. Add them at the beginning if you want super tender vegetables and towards the end (maybe last 30 to 60 minutes) for crisper veggies.
Would it be okay to cook this on low for 8 – 10 hours then let the crockpot turn to warm until ready to eat?
yes
Just put this in crockpot! Used a cup of chicken broth instead of a half cup to get a bit more gravy for the mashed potatoes. Cold snowy day here, sounds like the perfect soul warming meal
This a really easy dinner for anytime of the week. Second time making it. I will double the recipe to have more left overs. Thanks
Really good. I used frozen chicken tenderloins, and just put them in the crock pot still frozen. Because of that, I didn’t need to add any liquid as I knew that the liquid from the frozen chicken would be more than adequate. I didn’t have unsalted cream of chicken soup but I did use healthy version which doesn’t have as much sodium. Even cooking from frozen, it was completely cooked through in less than 3 hours. Served over mashed potatoes.
Did you cook it on high for three hours?
You can cook it on HIGH. It usually takes 2.5 to 3 hours.
No I cooked it on low
Great meal
