The 15 Names of Jesus – Given in the Book of John

In the Gospel of John we see Jesus in a way we don't see Him in any of the other three gospels. Here are 15 names of Jesus we see in the book of John. #Biblestudy #John #WomensBibleStudy #GoodMorningGirls

When my children were babies, I used to rock them and sing  Jesus Loves Me, Jesus Loves the Little Children and There’s Just Something About that Name…in that order.  That final song was not only soothing to my babies but to me as well and so I would find myself singing it over and over and over.  Sometimes I fell asleep in the rocking chair with my baby in my arms, humming that song.  If you have never heard it before (it’s an oldie) here’s the lyrics:

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus; there’s just something about that name.
Master, Savior, Jesus, like the fragrance after the rain;
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, let all Heaven and earth proclaim
Kings and kingdoms will all pass away,
But there’s something about that name.

That name!

There’s just something about that name!

We do not have a distant God – we have a personal God.  Jesus’ character and nature is revealed through the many names He is given in the Bible and so today I want to look at the 15 names of Jesus given in the book of John.

The 15 names of Jesus – Given in the book of John

1.) Jesus is the Word.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

2.) Jesus is God.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:1

3.) Jesus is the Lamb of God.

The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29)

4.) Jesus is the Messiah.

He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). (John 1:41)

5.) Jesus is the Bridegroom.

The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. (John 3:29)

6.) Jesus is the Living Water.

Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” (John 4:10)

7.) Jesus is the Savior of the World.

They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.” (John 4:42)

8.) Jesus is the Prophet.

When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, “This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!” (John 6:14)

9.) Jesus is the Bread of Life.

Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. (John 6:35)

10.)  Jesus is the Light of the World.

Jesus spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

11.) Jesus is the Door.

I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. (John 10:9)

12.)  Jesus is the Good Shepherd.

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. (John 10:11)

13.) Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life.

Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live. (John 11:25)

14.) Jesus is the Way the Truth and the Life.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)

15.) Jesus is the True Vine.

I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. (John 15:1)

That is our God!

He is our Messiah, our Bridegroom, our Light, and our Vine and He died on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins and He is alive!

He wants to be our Bread of Life.

He wants to be our Living Water.

He wants to be our Good Shepherd.

My mom died two years ago and this has been a tough time of loss. My husband and I are having problems in our marriage and my son has been ill. There is so much going on. But knowing that Jesus is all of these things does give me hope.
