Finding Comfort

When life goes off the rails and we find the only place we can find comfort is in God we will find that this is the only true comfort. #Biblestudy #Ruth #WomensBibleStudy #GoodMorningGirls

In last week’s video, I challenged us to get uncomfortable and live outside of our comfort zone.  This week I want to go the opposite way and talk about — Finding Comfort.

Life is just plain hard for all of us and we all need comfort sometimes.

What comforts you?  Maybe a bowl of ice cream, chicken noodle soup, a bubble bath and a cozy soft blanket or maybe it’s a long talk with a friend that ends with a hug.  Just this past week I made one of my favorite comfort foods – Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese.

Well, today I want to talk about Ruth and how Boaz brought her comfort. Boaz is a picture of Jesus in this story and so how he comforts her is how God wants to comfort us.  Also, let’s look at what he did for her and how we can do that for others.

We see in Ruth 2:11 & 12, that when no one was there to comfort Ruth in the midst of her losses and hardships, she turned to God to be her comfort.

“All that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband has been fully told to me, and how you left your father and mother and your native land and came to a people that you did not know before. 12 The Lord repay you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge!”
(Ruth 2:11,12)

Ruth found shelter under the wings of God.

He is our safe place!

And then God worked sovereignly in her life to bring people – not just Boaz who provided food and protection for her but also a community of women in the fields to work alongside of and workers who provided drink for her when she was thirsty.

Ruth said to Boaz in Ruth 2:13:

“I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, for you have comforted me and spoken kindly to your servant, though I am not one of your servants.”

God’s kindness through Boaz’s kindness was a comfort to Ruth.

Do you need comfort today?

Turn to Jesus and watch for the ways he provides comfort for you.  And then do as 2 Corinthians 1:3-7 says and with the comfort you receive from the Lord – be like Boaz and become a comfort to others who are  hurting around you.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.
(2 Corinthians 1:3-7)
