10 Lessons from Psalm 1-50 {The Conclusion}
This week the Good Morning Girls completed our study through Psalm 1-50! Way to go!!! I’m so proud of you for sticking with us!
Here’s 10 Lessons We Learn From Psalm 1-50
1. There is power in meeting early in the morning with God.
David said in Psalm 5:3, “O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.”
Our God is not limited to only speaking in the morning- he speaks at night time too – but David rose early in the morning to meet with God.
If you feel like there are never enough hours in the day to find time to meet with God, then rising earlier will help you. These extra few minutes with God, before the demands of the day are upon us are priceless and powerful!
2. God is listening even when it doesn’t feel like He is.
In Psalm 10:1 David asked, “Why, O Lord, do you stand far away? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?”
David not only felt like God was distant but he felt like God was intentionally hiding himself.
Are you facing the impossible? Or maybe struggling with anxiety about something that feels impossible? That roadblock in front of you may not disappear with one prayer. But this I can assure you of…
God is not hiding from you.
God does hear your prayers.
And God loves you.
So keep on talking to God about it!
3. There are 7 character qualities we find in those who are following God closely.
Being close to God is about more than our morning devotions. It is also about obeying God’s Word and allowing God to transform us from the inside out.
According to Psalm 15, a person who is following God closely: 1.) Does what is right. 2.) Speaks truth. 3.) Does not slander others. 4.) Does no evil to his neighbor. 5.) Despises the vile and honors those who fear the Lord. 6.) Keeps his word. 7.) Does not put his own interest above others and is not persuaded by money.
4. You can trust God in difficult times.
David said in Psalm 20:7, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”
In Bible times, horses and chariots struck fear in the hearts of military men. They symbolized strength. But the world’s strength does not compare to the strength the Lord our God gives in difficult times.
In the book of Psalms, David cried out to God over and over during his difficult times –and God answered his cries. You can trust God in the difficult times too.
5. God has not turned his back on you.
In Psalm 25:16-21, David said: “Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.”
David said to God “Turn to me“. David was not only feeling lonely and afflicted but he felt like God had turned his back on him. It doesn’t get any worse than feeling like God has looked away and so he pleas with the Lord to turn toward him and be gracious to him.
But God had not turned his back on David but rather David needed to wait on the Lord as God worked in His life.
Do you feel like God has turned his back on you today? He has not! God sees, hears and knows. Keep waiting on Him. He has not turned his back on you.
6. Our God is the God of the storm.
Psalm 29 speaks of God in the midst of a storm and his power and might over the storm. Verse 10 says, “The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.”
The Lord is unshakable. He sits enthroned as king forever!
When we see our God as He really is –as a huge, mighty, powerful King – we can take comfort in knowing that nothing happens in our life that is out of His control.
Our God is the God of the storms! And during the storms of life, our response should be worship. May we never use his name in vain but rather ascribe to Him the glory due his name.
7. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted.
Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
Pain causes us to draw near to God. The Lord is near to those who suffer. Are you suffering today?
You are not alone. The Lord is near.
Do not give way to fear. You are God’s and He loves you. He will bring you through!
8. Even those who are godly can fall into depression.
In Psalm 40:2, David was stuck in a pit and he wrote, “He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog.”
David fell into a pit of despair but the Lord delivered Him. Nothing David faced was just for his own benefit. It was also for the benefit of others – like you and me! Because of David’s faith, many trust in the Lord.
When you come through a dark season and others have watched you cry out to the Lord, wait patiently on God, be lifted out of the pit and they see you singing a new song – they can’t help but to see the great God that we serve and relate to the struggles you have faced.
9. The most important part of us is our soul and we must tend to it.
David writes in Psalm 42: 1, “As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.”
David says that just like a deer that is on the run and panting hard with a dry mouth – looking for a stream of water, David’s soul was panting for God.
The soul is the part of us that lives forever and your soul is the most important part of you.
The highest form of self-care is —> soul care.
Tend to your soul daily by meeting with God in His Word. Only you can open the Bible and drink from the living well for yourself.
10. We need to be still and know that God is in control.
David writes in Psalm 46:10 & 11, “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.”
To be still is to be silent and calm. When it seems like our world all around us is in chaos – our trust in God will hold us steady. We can be still and rest in the fact that our mighty God is in complete control. We do not need to give way to worry and fear. We can rest in Him.
Final Conclusion
God has not left us alone.
David writes in Psalm 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
God is always present with us. May he continue to be our refuge and strength.

I loved this study of Psalms. It really stuck with me on trusting God and obeying God. Also how David brought it all to God everything that troubled him he brought before God. Made me realize how much I try to go it alone. Thank you for this study and may God continue to bless you as you create more studies:)
Faithful is our God! Repeatedly through every chapter I was reminded he is with us. I know I need to be more faithful to him. More faithful in his word. I started this to help my daughter in law and granddaughter. And just like God, he helped me to learn I need to be more faithful to him????

Courtney, this study in the Psalms could not have come at a better time with the receipt of discouraging news that my team at work would be laid-off if we do not move to one of 2 hubs in different states. God knows. He has His plan for all of us. And re-reading thru these scriptures with you has reminded me to continue to trust in Him. Always. To wait on Him and as you mentioned, to be an encouragement to others who watch as I go thru this trial or as they also go thru this. I have seen others at work start slacking off or make numerous errors, not really caring anymore. I can’t do that. We haven’t been given an actual end date yet but I have always told my kids to do their best for the Lord. I must do the same as I work for Him and not man. I have seen how he has changed my perspective and encouraged me as we read thru these Psalms this summer! I am now actually looking forward to leaving the company I’ve been with over 21 years and I’m excited to see where the Lord will use me next! Thank you for your dedication to these studies and for sharing your heart with all of us, Courtney. Praying for you and your kids, that the Lord would continue to Bless and encourage you all. The time in His Word in this study has increased the above prayers……is stirring more want in my heart for Jehovah, and His Word hidden into my heart

In my heart, I have compassion to go into the dark places and reach out to the hurting lost souls as in drug addicts, prostitutes, gang thugs and cra cra…I am scared but the daily Psalms has done a work in my heart…I feel that God has prepared me to praise him and know that HE IS GOD ???????????? This study really help me to realize that God never ever leaves me especially in troubled times.. I just have to increase my faith and stand strong and firm in his word… my heart is so full from this study.. when I face trail and tribulation I will cling to Gods unchanging words for strength and peace.. Thank you so much for these studies.. I am transforming right before my eyes by doing these. So excited about this fall!!!

This study brought me ever closer to God. I learned so many lessons through my daily readings…God spoke to my heart and revealed areas of my life that I needed to change (particularly the need to let go of my distractions so that I can get ever closer to Him). I am so thankful for your studies through the Bible, and have been doing them with you from the very beginning. I am looking forward to the study of Ruth next month! God bless you and your family!! Thank you and may God bless you for all that you do!! I have been participating in your Bible studies now for what will be 4 years next month!! (time flies) I have loved every minute of it. I have never been perfect as in doing my reading and studying or journaling or even Bible highlighting every single week day during the studies. Truth is, I get behind and then I catch up. Such as was the case with this study. I think I got behind twice with this study and am just now finishing the study today. I love the Psalms. Reading and studying Psalms has been a blessing! I struggle with Psalm 15, as you noted above in #3 . I have someone in my life, who is married to a dear close family member. This person is what I would describe as ‘vile’. I struggle with trying not to judge this person. I have prayed for God to let me see this person as He sees that person. Yet every time I am around the person, I see no evidence of change or any reason to like the person. It says to despise what is vile, but yet we aren’t to judge or slander anyone and we are to love our neighbor. This is my struggle. I don’t want to judge this person. That isn’t my place, Lord knows I have had plenty to be judged for, myself. But loving this person who has done such ‘vile’ things to my loved one and continues to bring my loved one down…it is very hard to love someone like that. How in the world do we love someone and despise them at the same time? Or perhaps we try to love them anyway and despise the vile things they do?? Not despise them, per se, just the bad things that they do to themselves and my precious family member? I am a firm believer that there is some good in everyone. I am just struggling so hard to find the good in this person. Lord, I come to you once again and ask that you help me to forgive and to love this person as you love.
I appreciate your prayers! I so look forward to the study in the book of Ruth!! I am slowly but surely making my way through the Bible…one chapter at a time!! I wouldn’t have it any other way!!

Dear Courtney, Thank you so much for this study in the Psalms! I too, have loved being in a structured study throughout the summer and am now ready to dig into Ruth. I have always loved Psalms but really focusing on each one daily and marking key words, phrases etc. makes such a difference. The LORD convicted me, encouraged me and blessed me throughout the study. May God continue to bless you richly as you follow His leading in leading us! Do you still speak or host any ladies’ retreats or study gatherings? It would be wonderful to bring some ladies from Georgia to be a part if you do. ????????
