Faith, Work and Getting Out of Debt – God Cares About Your Financial Needs

If you're walking through a difficult financial season, the book of 2 Kings reminds us that God cares about your financial needs. #Biblestudy #2Kings #WomensBibleStudy #GoodMorningGirls

Have you made financial goals for the new year?

Perhaps last year was a hard year for you financially. Maybe a medical emergency, a job loss or a slow year in your line of work, has caused set backs for you.

In today’s video we are going to take a closer look at 2 Kings 4:1-7 and the story of Elisha and the widow’s oil.  We are going to see how her faith, mixed with hard work, got her out of debt.

God cares about your financial needs but he doesn’t want us to just sit and pray and wait for a miracle. There is something we can do about it!  So join me on this video as we talk about faith, work and getting out of debt.

In the video above, I mentioned that I rarely talk about finances. I prefer to leave it up to the experts, so let me share some experts with you that I recommend.

1. Dave Ramsey

This guy is one of the best in the business.  He has multiple best-selling books, a podcast, radio show, Youtubes, and everything you could possibly need to help you make good financial decisions.  I recommend his best selling book titled: The Total Money Makeover, which has sold more than 4 million copies!

2. Money Saving Mom

Crystal is godly woman and down to earth, frugal mom who shares deals, coupons, recipes, tips for managing your money well and her everyday life.  I met her many years ago at a blogging conference and I just love her!  I highly recommend her resources including her book titled: Say Goodbye to Survival Mode.

3. Living Well Spending Less

Ruth is a busy wife, mom, business owner, author, blogger and podcaster.  She will help you set financial goals and crush them!  I had the opportunity to endorse her best-selling book titled Living Well and Spending Less and so I highly recommend it.

If you have a favorite book or resource that has helped you – please feel free to share it in the comments below.

Is there a talent, a gift, or a dream in your heart that you feel God is urging you to step out in faith and use?

Perhaps you are not sure in the timing.  It is very important that you wait on the Lord and if you have a spouse, to discuss it with them first.  Sarah and Abraham did not wait on the Lord’s timing and they stepped outside of God’s will and birthed Ishmael – do not birth an Ishmael!

Seek the Lord in prayer, seek guidance from others and once you have peace – go in faith, work hard and do what you feel God has called you to do.

God loves you and He is with you.  He sees and cares about your financial needs.

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.   To our God and Father be glory forever and ever.
Amen.
~Philippians 4:19-20

  1. Courtney, your so amazing. I love this ministry. I have been participating off and on for years. Thank you for your time and this bible study.

    1. Hi Nora,

Thank you so much for your encouragement. It means so much!

I’m so glad you are still following along and I pray God blesses you as you walk with Him.

      Much Love,
      Courtney 🙂

  2. Thank you for the reminders to look back and see what He has done.
I think it’s amazing that you’ve been able to model “using what you already have” — your website, youTube channel, GMG routines — all through your own need & trials! God is at work and we just need to join Him!

    1. Thank you Becca – you are so right! God has gone before me and knew my needs long before I knew – I would even have a need.

      He is so very faithful!!!
      Much Love,
      Courtney 🙂

  3. Sending Love to you and all of your members! I try to consciously be one of those “approachable” people. I know that I am. I’m an empath, and I give and help and try and listen and do. Yet, could you please help me to understand – – it’s these things that make me repel people. I’m the one not included, left out, ghosted – I think I’m too available. A book was recommended (Too nice for your own good) Have you heard of this before? I’d love your perspective and advice. It’s a lonely way to live. Love to all.

    1. Dear Jennie,

I’m not familiar with this book but I am so sorry this is happening. I’m not sure that it is something you are doing or if it’s the people that you are around. First, I would talk to them about your feelings. If they are true friends – they will listen to you. Perhaps there are good explanations as to why this is happening so I would try to assume the good in them to maintain the friendships while also letting them know how you feel.

If you are continually feeling left out, I wonder if you need to be the one to take the lead and make new friends in a new circle. I know that is very hard to do and may not be possible since I don’t know more details about your situation. But I am saying a prayer for you now that the Lord gives you wisdom and true friends.

      Much Love,
      Courtney 🙂

  4. Courtney! I was wanting to do a small group Bible study in my home for ladies one morning a week. Tbh I was drawn to Rest and Release solely on the basis that it was only 4 weeks and I wanted to not bite off more than I could chew at this season in my life. But I’m so glad I’ve decided to do it. However I have friends that would like to come except that they work in the day. So I decided to add an “online” study with your book via a FB group page and invite FB friends that I thought might be interested in it. There is a sweet young lady that is Hispanic that works at a restaurant my hubby and I go to after church. We have tried to firm a relationship with her and have sought to show her Gods love. She is a new unwed mother. And she is learning English but is still not very fluent in it. I decided to add her to the fb study invite anyway. I got a message back from her telling me that she wanted to join our study and that she knew she might understand very little but she could try to translate it. She also said that the truth was they never went to church and her mom had lost her faith due to family tragedies. But then she said she wanted to know the Word of God!!!!! I think my heart skipped a beat. I wanted to share this with you, and ask for your prayers as we start the study at home and “online” and also wanted to ask if Rest and Release is printed in Spanish or if not do u have any recommendations as to how to include my sweet little Hispanic friend in this study? Thx so much!!!! Basking in His goodness!!!

    1. Hi Mary,

I can hear your excitement – This is so wonderful!! I am saying a prayer for both your studies now!!

I apologize that Rest and Release is not available in Spanish. 🙁

      Much Love,
      Courtney 🙂

  5. The Budget Mom is a great resource, too! Kumiko Love is awesome! She is a single mother, who has worked extremely hard to become debt free. She has a lot of free resources and courses you can take. She posts daily on Instagram, and is also on YouTube. Check her out at thebudgetmom.com or on Instagram.

  6. I love your post. Thank you for the reminder that God cares about our finances. We have gotten off track recently and are working to do better so this was very timely for me. We had Joseph Sangl speak at our church a few years ago, his program “I Was Broken. Now I’m Not.” is great too!

  7. Courtney,
I’m enjoying 2 Kings study; what an adventure! I really enjoyed your video about the woman and her jars of oil. Before I start to buy something; I asked myself what do I have at home? What can I use instead of spending money…????

You are amazing and thank you for sharing God’s Word.
