“Value” . Once you take Opportunity Cost in the equation There are Very Few moderns that have any Value at all Currently.

The era of all things unicorn is upon us, and that notion isn’t lost on Kellogg’s which released a Unicorn Froot Loops cereal in the U.K. last year. But if we’ve learned anything about unicorn foods from Starbucks’ frappuccino to ramen tocannoli, it’s that once people see something unicorn, they want it. Now. So with the response and fervor around a Unicorn Cereal heating up, Kellogg’s acquiesced to the public’s demand and promised a mystical, magical breakfast would be available stateside this year. That day, unicorn seekers, is finally here.
Coins aren’t edible but……………. might be worth a shot by the Unicorn States Mint.

cag , I am not 100% sure about the price of 2009UHR you posted, but I think the price was not that high. I bought 2 from the Mint. First one for 1189.00 I belive, and the second one later after HH limit was lifted and I think I paid 1089, but with second number I might be wrong. I know for sure I bought some 2008 Buffalo coins at big discount when USMint had last chance sale..
Darek says
earthling,
this the only one Buffalo I don’t have in my collection. I decided that instead of buying it, I put that money in crypto to try different type of lottery.
Darek says
I wish I put that money in 2008, when my friend visited me and told me that he bought ten of them week before for around $100. He sold them in January for $15000 each. Nice profit.
Darek says
One correction. It was at the beginning of 2011, not 2008.

Today I received Pictured Rocks P puck. Beautiful coin. Last year I only bought P pucks, and this year I might add Palladium Proof to the pucks. Before I was spending about $15000 a year. Now to much PC on the coins.
jj says
@Darek, what do you use… coinbase? coinsquare? recommend something else?
Darek says
jj,
I can’t recommend you any exchange site because I don’t know anything about them. I just wanted to try different lottery game and I put some money in the crypto. I can tell you how I started. I used coinbase to buy ether, than I found out that gdax is the coinbase company, so I transferred my ether for free there, and later I transferred from gdax to Binance. I picked Binance because this exchange was the only one at the time which accepted new registration. Than, I trade my ether for 5 other cryptos. Except few trades I made, I just keep what I have there.
Darek says
jj,
I wanted to use Bittrex, US base exchange but they don’t accept new registration at the moment.
jj says
darek, cool thanks! i’m just learning about it right now. seems risky for sure, but a little Ether couldnt hurt 🙂

The Buffalo herd seems to be stuck at 64 at the US Mint. At the pace it’s going we’re probably looking at a mid – May sell out. Hopefully by July 4th anyway.
One 2017 Buffalo 1 oz or 8 – 2018 1/10 oz American Liberties, that’s the question.
🙏
Darek says
earthling,
I would pick Buffalo. The other one is PC Liberty forced by Obama staff, and You will get less gold with this one I belive ( I didn’t check the prices).
So Krates says
If hindsight were actually 20/20, people would always learn from their mistakes. Unfortunately most people don’t see 20/20, even in hindsight.
jj says
earthling, definitely the buffalo. i’m thinking of getting one myself (never bought one)
darek, i’m in the crypto game now. i think i’ll go the Litecoin route to start. then maybe Ripple.
Darek says
jj,
Good luck. Remember one thing – this is lottery.
Don’t check your balance every 5 minutes, unless you want to trade all the time and don’t read crypto forums. I just picked five different cryptos from the top 10 and I will hold for years. When I checked today I was 8% under.
Darek says
So Krates,
Some people play Power Ball, some buy scratches hoping to win $1000 a week for life, some go to casino to play poker, some people are addicted to the shopping tv channels like HSN, and now a lot of young people putting their own money into crypto.
earthling says
I fell victim to many old vices today. Bought 2 six packs of Lite Beer – Coors Lite and Labatt Blue Lite Lime. Also bought $10 in Powerball and $10 in Mega Millions. Decided to get 2 – $10 Scratch Offs , something I normally don’t touch. Had 2 of the Lite Beers and I’m stumbling …. usually have a few Beers each year. 😦
I’m starting to think … Cryptos ……. hey , why not ? Nah don’t wanna even go there. Well, maybe if I ever drink about 4 Lite Beers. Buttttt….. I usually do about 4 Beers per year. Guess the Cryptos will never be a factor in MY life? Gawd I hope not. 😉
Well I’m gonna scratch the Instant Lotto Tickets. They were something about Platinum something…. just couldn’t resist. 😟
Darek says
earthling,
For me to buy Powerball or Mega tickets, the price has to be over $400 000 000. I used to spend about $1000 a year playing the same sets of numbers for years, and the biggest price I won was $60. At some point I stopped and now I only play when the price is over 400 000 000.
NcCoinCollector says
I guess the real value determinant on the Reverse Proof Silver Set will be the packaging. If it’s gaudy and elaborate they will charge more eroding the value of the coins inside. If however the Mint uses stock lenses and a cardboard box a la the enhanced finish set it will be a winner for sure.

WOW , Now I’m learning something. First I thought what is he doing. Then I looked it up. WOW much different than I was thinking. Ether was used to start my tractor diesel Perkins motor in cold temperatures. I guess I smelt a little too much. Sometimes they say “born in a barn” , I think I need to get out more. Thanks that made a lol for me. Just had to tell how slow I am.

I was reminded why I don’t usually buy Scratch Off Lottery Tickets – 2 Tickets @ $10 and I get nothing. A total waste of time and money.

OT – I see that the WW1 medal sets are going off sale tomorrow. Any suggestions on how to play the game?
You can’t get a good price because there are no listings on ebay. And I guess shipping won’t be until end of May?
So I guess you could buy, wait until they get close to shipping, and then decide whether to keep or cancel?

The only US Mint Medals I want are the last 3 American Indian Code Talkers . Is there any news about those? I once asked in that Pop Up dialog box on the Mint website. All that was accomplished was a waste of my time , the person knew nothing. So typical.

@cag —
While there is certainly truth in your observations, there is a bit of a moving target.
In other words, to realize these returns, you have to both buy and sell at the right time. If you trade a lot, you can calculate your returns, because your gains (or losses) are locked in by the trade. The appreciation of Bitcoin does me no good now unless I sell now. If I hold it until it is worthless again, it won’t matter how high it rose.
I think coins are terrible investments. Most of my investing consists of regular contributions to a cheap Index fund to track the Dow. Unless we know the future we sure, we can’t say what now has “value.” Value will always be a moving target, which is why diversification into hard assets is not a terrible idea.
Historically, you can’t argue the fact that over the long term, stocks in American business have far outperformed holding commodities. The very long term isn’t written yet, and depends on variables that we can’t possibly control for, such as financially disciplined offspring. The investing goals of a disciplined retiree can be undone in one generation by a heir who is a compulsive gambler.
The control of an individual over the very long term is elusive at best.

Great idea Mortgage out your home to buy Bitcoin$! wow I know in the early 2000’s people took out 2nd & 3rd to buy boats, bikes & other toys w/their giant ‘equity’ all lost…a very bad idea property is usually the best investment in the long run… I did get a $1 scratcher many years ago & hit… $25,000 that’s a return… still play get alot of $1ks & $100 & $50 but not bigones… yet ot really a great odds gamble but in the long run maybe better than buying inflated fuguly mint stuff…… in the end GGG will count guns, gold & GRUB
