day 2409: R.A.C.I. Charting

“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.”

I’ve been doing some work assisting in role definition.  I’m a big fan of sitting down and doing some R.A.C.I. Charting in order to guarantee the best chance of success.  I sometimes just call it defining “swim lanes” but R.A.C.I. takes it one step further, for those who want to be sure that everyone knows what their role is in the work to be done. It’s pretty simple in understanding:

  • Responsible: person who performs an activity or does the work.
  • Accountable: person who is ultimately accountable and has Yes/No/Veto.
  • Consulted: person that needs to feedback and contribute to the activity.
  • Informed: person that needs to know of the decision or action.

We should ask ourselves today, which are we in the work we are doing and who plays the rest of the roles?

We are God’s workers in His Kingdom.  He tells us that, over and over.  God leaves us within our own responsibilities but make no mistake we remain accountable to Him and He along with others who we are in fellowship should be consulted before we make any move. And, the best news of all is that He knows all, even before we do so there should never be fear that He lets us operate without Him being informed.
