Baked Puff Pastry Sandwiches for Parties

A traditional Cuban Sandwich has pork, ham, pickles, Swiss, and mustard. Since we have a lot of leftover turkey from the holiday, I decided to swap the pork for turkey and wrap it all in puff pastry. Let me tell you, these Turkey Cuban Pastry Puffs were DELICIOUS! One bite and we were both in heaven!

How to Make Turkey Cuban Pastry Puffs

These sandwich puffs are super easy to make. Thaw a package of puff pastry. Cut each sheet of puff pastry into 9 squares. Top each square with mustard, turkey, ham, pickle slice, and swiss cheese on the diagonal. Bring the opposite corners together. Brush with an egg wash and bake.

  • To keep the edges together during cooking :
    • Don’t overfill the puff pastry
    • Wet the edges of the puff pastry with water to help seal the pastry together
    • Can use toothpicks to help keep the edges together
    • If the puff pastry does open up during cooking, don’t panic. As soon as you take them out of the oven, gently press the edges together and they will stay together just fine after cooling. I had to do that with some of the puffs in this batch.
  • I used Vlasic Stackers for the pickles
  • Can Turkey Cuban Pastry Puffs be Made Ahead and Frozen? Yes! These puffs are a great make-ahead snack. You can assemble the puffs and pop them in the freezer unbaked for a quick meal/appetizer later. There is no need to thaw the puffs before baking. Simply add a couple of minutes to the cooking time below.
  • You can use leftover holiday turkey or deli-sliced turkey meat.

  1. Do you roll out 1 sheet of puff pastry on parchment first so that you can get 9 squares? Never used this pastry before.

    1. You don’t have to roll it out. Just unfold it and cut down the seams one way and make two more cuts the opposite way – that will give you nine squares.

  2. Making these for a snack tonight. Thanks so much for the recipe. They look delicious and were so easy to put together!
