    Awesome STEM toy!
We bought this set for my (almost) 3 year old son for Christmas and they were a huge hit. He figured out how to build on his own, we had to show him how to use the crank to make the Gears move. We'll definitely be buying more to expand. I think his father and I have as much playing with them as he does :)

My kids enjoyed playing with these for hours!

My Drs office has a large, table version of this, and my son loved it whenever he had a chance to use it. I actually bought it for my younger daughter, almost three, for the STEM value, but with the small pieces, I hoped that they would play it together, so that one of us could supervise while she played (she doesn't put small pieces into her mouth, but one can't be too careful). Both kids just LOVED it immediately, out of the box. My older boy can still use some work with his fine motor skills, and he is a building toy/Lego freak, so this hits a few sweet spots for him. My toddler also loves to play with bigger Lego bricks (mega blocks and duplos), so she has a ball building with them - the gear size is prefect for her little hands, but they aren't so strong that they can pinch her fingers when they turn. She also loves the bright primary colors, and we have fun making patterns and shapes with them. Heck, I even find it fun to play with, myself!

We have only had it a short time, but it is out multiple times a day, and I have plans to supplement this first kit with other kits as soon as I can. Even as a basic kit, there are plenty of pieces to play with, so it is fun on its own, but there are plenty of more complex kits to choose from. I can definitely see this being something that both kids will be interested in for a long time, especially as they become more creative in their building. Great toy!

Oh my goodness, when I bought this product I got it at a great deal. It wasn't in the original box but a plain brown box. (you could choose either but plain box was cheaper). I opened the box and put the gears in a plastic file folder container. JUST GREAT! My grandchild carries the box around to where he wants to play with it and puts it away nicely. THE GEARS are AWESOME. I don't know why I thought they just laid flat, but you can build them vertically or horizontally. You can make canals, towers, almost anything your mind can imagine and the gears work. Coolest and most inventive toy for kids' imagination. This scored BIG with my preschoolers age 3 - 6 and i'm sure above that age would love them too.

So I bought these for my one year olds who are obsessed with spinning things- the handle and some of the connectors that make 3D creations are choking hazards but if you set those aside, the gears and the base plates are fine for babies and toddlers. They do love spinning them! There are only two things that I find disappointing- one is that the gears only rest on the base plates, they don’t snap in place, so if they tip it, all of the gears fall off. This wouldn’t really be a problem with older kids but it would have been nice if they stayed more secure. The other thing that’s kind of a bummer is that the gears come in all six colors of the rainbow, but the base plates are the same shade as the green ones. Visually, it would just be so much nicer if the base plates were black or white so all of the colors stood out. Still, these are sturdy and well made, and a great toy for budding scientists! I used to have a set in my First Grade classroom and they were a big hit with the kids there as well!

Like probably every parent I want to get my kid interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, so I'm always looking for building toys that are educational and fun. These Gears were fun at first but haven't quite had the staying power of other building toys we have, such as Legos.

I introduced these Gears! to my kid when she was four years old. She's almost five, but she still won't really go to the Gears unless I'm there playing with her. The pieces fit together well, but they attach so tightly that she cannot easily separate them without my help. The gear wheels attach to the pegs without too much force, but the green and purple pieces which make up the framework attach so tightly that it's tough for a 4 year old to separate them. Another aspect about this toy is that you can't really create as many different things as them as you can with something like building blocks or legos. You can try to get creative and do vertical gears and horizontal gears like you see in the images, and perhaps play with the colors, but that's about where it ends. As an adult I think it's pretty fun to get a long chain of gears going and watching them all spin together -- but that doesn't quite hold my kids attention for very long... Yet. Maybe she's just too young?

Otherwise this is a decent kit. It does what it's advertised to do! Having said that I wouldn't give this as a gift to a friend, and I don't feel compelled to buy more.

I bought this back in November of 2017 for my son for Christmas. He was 2 at the time, and is almost 4 now. He loves them as much now as he did then. He has always loved watching how gears fit together and spin, so that is how he originally played with the toy. Now he builds robots, cars and trains all on his own. It is also fun for him to break the creation and fling the pieces around. The value for the amount of play is amazing, and everyone has had fun playing with it, from age 2 - 60. If you have a child that likes building with blocks or legos, this will be a hit.

This is the second of five toys I bought on Amazon for my son's third birthday. I'm a writing a review because, frankly, I found this toy fascinating. I knew it was one of those -build-it-yourself kits, so I thought it would be good for son, who seems to like to build things. It turned out to be better than expected. All the gears assemble in such a way that when one starts turning, they all start turning, and there's quite a number of them to turn. You can make all sorts of configurations and the gears will just turn and turn and turn. I can't explain it, you have to see it. I highly recommend it for the young ones who like building blocks and that sort of stuff. Or maybe fathers who never grow up.
