Thus ends the great Amazon/JetBlue TrueBlue partnership

For those who love shopping on Amazon and triple-dipping on points earning the process is about to get a lot harder. The click-through shopping portal on the JetBlue TrueBlue site is going away effective March 27, 2018. The company sent a notice to its members today announcing the change.

While you can still earn 3 TrueBlue points per eligible* dollar spent on Amazon purchases made when logged in to Fly-Fi® during JetBlue flights, non-inflight purchases will no longer be eligible for the 3X offer effective 3/27/18.

It is unclear if this change is a result of Amazon deciding it wants to pay out less in commission to JetBlue for the transactions or if JetBlue is choosing to keep more of those profits for themselves. Given that the payout will continue for transactions made on the inflight wifi system I’m inclined to believe it is more about Amazon’s desires.

There’s also the part where the initial partnership was supposed to be focused on Amazon supporting the FlyFi product. In that context the fact that there was any offline earning doesn’t necessarily make a ton of sense. Then again, JetBlue was almost certainly keeping a bit of the commission for itself so it was enjoying that sponsorship income no matter what.

Ultimately it is bad news on the points earning front, especially for those obsessed with Amazon. Back to finding better deals on gift cards and other schemes to save…

  1. Well that hurts. I earned a few thousand B6 points with that one. It was kind of fun earning points in there programs by combining this with MileagePlus X gift cards, and paying for those with a card from a third program.

  2. Yeah, it’s bad news to lose this. At the same time it was a pretty restrictive arrangement anyway, but at least it got me a fair number of points. At least my Amazon shopping experience will be faster now, no need to add things to my cart, log into B6 and hit the Amazon shopping link, then back to cart to purchase…if that can be viewed as a silver lining 🙁

Uh, dumb question time: how is JetBlue planning to keep more profits from me if they don’t offer me an incentive to use their referral link? There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that I am going to first go to the Jetblue page, find the darn link, and the shop on Amazon. So no profit from me. And I am not planning on flying B6 to shop Amazon (given that B6 doesn’t serve my local airport, I have basically just collected B6 points because it’s pretty much the only thing I could collect when shopping on Amazon, but I have yet to fly them).
