Most of those “win crap from an airline for liking a post on Facebook” things are scams. This one is the real deal, sponsored by JetBlue. And for 100,000 points – roughly $1200-1500 in travel without trying too hard – it is worth a shot.
At JetBlue, we don’t believe in blackout dates. And that got us thinking… if Monday’s blackout is the biggest in recent history, then we don’t believe in it either.

Like most “big” prizes JetBlue will issue a 1099MISC for the prize value. Unlike most similar award miles prizes JetBlue is valuing the award based on the nominal redemption value – $1,198 – rather than the inflated price at which most programs sell points. Sure, you can dispute the 1099MISC value when they do that but this version is much more winner-friendly.

Normally airlines and hotel groups offer a check to compensate the tax charge for those points. Jetblue clearly stated that they won’t. So this is actually less winner friendly.
Almost none offer to pay the taxes. Not in recent memory. Feel free to show evidence to the contrary, but I haven’t seen it in a long, long time.
And most set the value at the 3+ cpm rate they sell at, not the normal redemption value that is rather lower.
Ironically, they cancelled my flights to Savannah to watch eclipse…
