New Anti-Corruption Acts

In Tempe, AZ, Represent.Us Chapter Members have been working for months to pass their City’s Anti-Corruption Act. The New Act ends Secret Money by requiring Transparency from outside Groups that spend more than $1,000 on Tempe's Elections.

Throughout the winter in Alaska, Volunteers stood outside stores in blowing snow and below-zero wind chill to gather more than 45,000 Signatures, all to put the Alaska Government Accountability Act on the Ballot.

The Alaska Government Accountability Act takes major steps to make Government Accountable to the People. Here's what's in it:

No Budget, No Pay - Legislators would no longer be entitled to a Daily Per-Diem Allowance if they fail to Pass a Budget on time.

No more Lobbyist Gift Loopholes - The Act Bans Lobbyists from Wining and Dining Politicians.

Strengthens Conflict of Interest Rules. The Act requires Legislators to declare Conflicts-of-Interest before Voting and Excuse themselves from Voting when they or a Member of their immediate Family has a Financial Conflict of Interest.

Protects Alaska's Elections from Foreign Influence - Corporations with significant Foreign Ownership would be Prohibited from Spending on Alaska’s State and Local Candidate Elections.

Restricts Foreign Travel - Politicians would no longer be able to Bill the State for International Travel, unless they can actually show how the Trip Benefits Alaskans and serves a Legislative Purpose.
