Bob Cargill

“I received AMA Boston’s recurring newsletter this morning. It is an incredibly well-packaged, engaging and insightful email I receive that provides information about trends and upcoming events. At the top of that newsletter is the “President’s Message”, which features AMA Boston’s own Bob Cargill. I just read the message from this current newsletter and it prompted me to write this recommendation. Bob’s message is about gratitude to those that led the chapter before him, those that were volunteering with him, and those that he was turning over to. So when I saw that “President’s Message” in the newsletter and Bob was thanking everyone else, I had to write this. Everyone is thankful for Bob too. Bob has made a seismic impact on the Boston Chapter, and the AMA as a whole. He is and has been an amazing leader. There are two individuals (John Cass being the other) that are responsible for shepherding me into this marketing life. Bob is an inspiration, and has been responsible for mentoring people throughout his career, and his gregarious and generous outpouring of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for all things is infectious. He was gracious with his time a couple of years ago while I was in school in that he allowed me to interview him about his experience (thank you again!). Bob has an amazing book titled “Twenty Jobs, Twenty Lessons - a Long, Strange Career in Marketing, from Junk Mail to Social Media”, which ought to be a best-seller in the marketing community. He is constantly coaching others on the ridiculously awesome joys of social media, content, copywriting and innovating. Bob is consistently using social video to share his thoughts – since I’m a remote volunteer, this is great because I’m able to connect and feel connected - Bob’s excellence as an educator shines through his podcasts, vlog and streams. Bob is sharp, witty, intelligent and wise – and a motivational speaker and trainer. Bob can lead any team, agency or class (in-person or remote) to success and I hope you all have the privilege of working with him someday. Finally, one last note for this recommendation. Bob’s kindness extends well beyond the realm of marketing and it deserves to be recognized. Bob pays it forward. He has this annual ritual where he goes around his hometown to deliver chocolates and encouragement to the homeless. It is a terrible experience for these people being in a homeless situation, and Bob gives them love and support. And then the running – in marathon after marathon, Bob raises money in his Boston Marathon runs for Christopher’s Haven. Christopher’s Haven is a place where families can go while children are being treated for cancer, and in Bob they have found an incredible voice to run on their behalf. Bob Cargill is an amazing chapter leader, industry leader and community leader. Bob deserves high praise and recommendation! Thank you, Bob!”

“The Karyopharm Therapeutics team reached out to Bob for help with some social media training, employee advocacy, and executive thought leadership. Bob was a delight to work with and trained hundreds of Karyopharm employees, including members of the executive team on how to build their social profiles, use social media, and become a thought leader on social media. Between his depth of knowledge in writing/marketing as well as social media, Bob was a valuable asset to the Karyopharm team as we reached our goal of growing the Karyopharm brand in the online world.
