Washington — The United States Mint (Mint) will accept orders for the America the Beautiful five-ounce silver Uncirculated coin honoring the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site in Alabama beginning on April 8 at noon EDT. This is the 56th and last five-ounce silver coin to be released in the America the Beautiful Quarters Program. Mintage is limited to 20,000 units, with no household order limit.

The coin’s reverse (tails) design depicts a Tuskegee Airman pilot suiting up to join the fight during World War II, with the Moton Field control tower in the background. The pilot looks upward with pride and confidence as two P-51 Mustangs pass overhead. The inscription THEY FOUGHT TWO WARS is arced across the top as a reference to the dual battles the Tuskegee Airmen fought — fascism abroad and racial discrimination at home. Inscriptions are TUSKEGEE AIRMEN, ALABAMA, 2021, and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

The obverse (heads) design features a 1932 restored portrait of George Washington.

Each encapsulated coin comes with a certificate of authenticity.

The 2021 America the Beautiful five-ounce silver Uncirculated coin — Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site is priced at $229.00. To set up a REMIND ME alert for this product, please visit here (product code 21AJ).

The America the Beautiful five-ounce silver Uncirculated coins are also available for purchase through the Mint’s Product Enrollment Program. Visit us online for details.

The Mint launched the America the Beautiful Quarters Program in 2010 as authorized by Public Law 110–456, the America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008 (Act). The Act called for the Mint to issue 56 quarter-dollar coins with reverse designs depicting national parks and other national sites in each state or territory and the District of Columbia. 2021 marks the final year of the program.

  1. IJTR says

    It’s been a long haul.
Lord please don’t let me get started on another series like this.

  2. JohnT58 says

    IJTR,
I second that emotion. Fortunately, the mint is making it easy for me. I will no longer pay these outrageous markups for their coins.

  3. CaliSkier says

Ironic, that back in 2010, I broke down and dropped $279 per 5oz P puck and today at $229, I won’t even contemplate buying the last coin.

The Mint did a good job of discouraging any further purchases from me! Not even going for the Morgan/Peace coins.

I’ll admit I did try for a gold V75, however that for me was all about the flip! I wasn’t successful, however I’ll be there for any item that can quadruple my investment! Who wouldn’t?

  4. says

    IJTR & JohnT58,
Your not alone, my thoughts are the same, So Happy this series is Finally over but some of the the National Park designs were amazing with only a few duds, all in all a beautiful 56 coin set & I still believe the satin uncirculated mint version finish is much nicer then the shiny bullion version. Once the premiums skyrocketed for the Gold & Platinum coins that did me in going that route (600-650 over spot for a 1oz coin) DONE, not happy with ASE prices jumping also but still a pretty coin, looking forward to seeing what the Morgan & Peace dollars will set me back, nothing will surprise me.

  5. William says

2021 seems like a good cutoff for the modern stuff, once I get the new Peace and Morgan dollars I think I’m done for awhile on the new stuff.

  6. Kenny says

I agree with William for 2021 being a good cut off point but I’m looking forward to the 2026 Sestercentennial penny through dollar coin designs and I want to get them in the silver proof set of I can still afford them in 5 years .

  7. says

You can’t trust the Mint on long running series, take the President Silver Medals starting in 2018 (39.95) then 2020 (46.00) now 2021 (65.00) well over 50% increase in only 3 years, while silver hovers around 25.00 an ounce, what will 2026 prices look like? 90+ is very possible. What will the mintages be then? How many collectors gave up on this series?
    Glad I skipped that one!

  8. Mike says

I think the 2026 silver proof set will be pushing 150 possibility so I don’t think too many people will be willing to pay for it.

  9. DaveSWFL says

Coinage could be a thing of the past by 2026 if the Fed gets their way. You may be stuck with electronic payment systems and a “digital dollar “.

  10. Mintman says

    Lladro? Really?
The wife bought a few pieces in the late 80’s early 90’s and they are basically paper weights.
Just walk into a millennials homes these days…ever see a curio cabinet? Ever see any collectibles around?
I’ll answer —-no. There is your resale potential.

  11. Coinasaurus says

Paperweights? No doubt some are basically
Paperweights. I got one called ” Greengrocer” and it is basically exactly that , a paperweight. Or an offensive Weapon to have ready for action.

There are some so big and elaborate they are more expensive than nice Houses…….. getting too crazy.

The one I’m looking at now is cool. I want to look before buying through. A quick trip to Macy’s at the Somersett Collection is In order for that.

Resale? No thanks, this is for me. I buy what appeals to me . No resale planned. One day, soon, Im hoping to go to Valencia , Spain and see the Lladro Factory.

  12. birddog says

My mom passed about 3 years ago ,she had years and years of every figurine you can think of,we took them to auction original boxes they averaged between $5 and $20 apiece, very sad if she had put all that money she spent on those things in silver iam sure she would have got alot more money

  13. Coinasaurus says

Sounds to me like you cast your Moms Pearls before Swine. You need a crowd of interested motivated Buyers to get good prices. Same as with anything.

Original Boxes are a big part of Classic Lladros. No box, no bid. I once bought a big one, “Peace Offering” that arrived with a Dove broken off outstretched Hands. It was a delicate situation. I wanted a refund but I didnt want to outright get rude and obnoxious. A subtile hint did the trick. I just casually mentioned that Free Legal Representation was a Benefit of my Employment. No fuss, no muss, the refund Check arrived very quickly. For me buying Lladros on Ebay ended very soon after that. Buying fragile things through the Mail can be a risky thing.

  14. KEITHSTER says

On to Lladros I have about 5or6 or so they were Moms but had enough luck to have taken them out of the trailer a few years back? So they missed the fire Her figurine thing was Hummels and I have been around Hummels all My life! A lot of them were in the Curio Cabinet the one I wanted the cabinet that is as I always wanted the Hummels were now reborn as Phoenix Hummels Mom had wanted to clean them but I wound not let her even try. As everyone has the same old Hummels but these are like something you never have seen ! Just lick most of the coins & agates earned the Phoenix name as they All look like the are made of pure PMs ? But it is not what they are worth but who’s they were that make them priceless! So Good Luck In All <"<"<"<"<"<"<"<"<"

  15. Coin Evolution says

$1,875 for a dime a dozen porcelain statue yet you guys complain about coins… on a coin blog. OK!! Dinosaurs did have brains the size of walnuts. No wonder they went extinct.

  16. Coinasaurus says

Ha ha, Thats funny about Dino brains and dime a dozen Porcelain. If not for PM content guess where the Coins would be since rhe crash in 2008? There a few Lladros out there I want . And a few Coins also. My Dino brain is wired like an old Abacus, Still trying to adjust to bitcoin and all that BS out there.

I like what I like. Dont really care what the shills tell me to like.

  17. John Q. Coinage says

My sister used to work@lladeo & Michael Jackson bought $150,000 worth one day. Except he died 2 days later before paying for it (0r possessing) the Estate said aloha……..resale value is low, but it if u like it. I suspect these burnished will go quickly based n recent sales trends same resale kinda like Laladros u can’t get spot for sure…….💸

  18. Zephin says

Picked up a ASE-2021 (21EA) today at 6:30am. USM09445XXX. I was going for the Congratulations Set 2021. No luck yet.

  19. CaliSkier says

Zephin, nice to hear a MNB’er managing to score another illusive coin at issue price!

I think those Congratulations sets are gone for good? Of course there will be the 2022 set more than likely? However don’t count on the price holding at $75, unless Ag absolutely tanks? Even then, more than likely there WILL be a price increase?

Good luck to those seeking the P Tuskegee 5oz! Long term the coin shouldn’t be of anymore value on the secondary market than the majority of P ATB’s?

That is unless, the Mint throws up a low mintage wonder? Just because the stated max mintage I’d 20,000, doesn’t mean they have to make nor sell all 20,000!

  20. CaliSkier says

Birddog, it just occurred to me, that even paper, other than for the toilet is becoming a relic as well?

How much longer will people even know what a paper weight is and or what it was used for???

Every company is trying to go paperless these days? Which is fine until we have a solar flare take down the grid? Then we will see complete pandemonium as w/o a cell phone, people will full on short circuit! Would kind of be a neat little science project to see how far we have or have not evolved???

My guess is we’d pretty much go Neanderthal versus what we now have, which is civilized Neanderthal?

    Caliskier,
Suggesting the mint could/would possibly short mint the last coin ( Alabama) is a ridiculous statement
Good luck getting them? They are not going anywhere & plenty will be available, (15,000+) Zero chance they sell less then Salt River(13,567) or Marsh Billings (12,902) still trickling towards 13,000 or Tallgrass(13,608) These 3 Coins are the low mintage wonders! The mint had the chance to only mint 12,000 making it the coin to get but they passed on that and instead went 20,000 max because they didn’t want to leave any $$$$ on the table or upset collectors who could get stiffed after loyally buying the 1st 55 coins. Sure they will not mint that many because they know they will not sell that many but 229 a coin is a money maker for the mint so I expect it to be available a long time, probably till the end of the year. I expect Vermont to eventually make 13,500 & nothing less making only those 3 coins the short mintages of the series.

  27. says

Tallgrass pucks are gone……I do agree with Caliskier, that the Tuskegee Pucks will just be another ordinary coin of a long 56 coin series & not demand more money on the secondary market.

  28. says

    Agree 100%

  29. Hidalgo says

I believe that one of the main reasons the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site 2021 Uncirculated Five Ounce Silver Coin has a mintage limit of 20,000 is because there is no requirement to produce additional 5 ounce silver coins this year. If there were, the US Mint would have to distribute available planchets among the remaining 5 ounce silver coins required by law.

With that being said, I believe in the short term, demand and prices will be high. However, as more coins enter the secondary market, prices will fall quickly.

  30. IJTR says

    BS vs. VDB

The new quarter has a BS for the designer.
OK, in this world we live in, how long before various theories are promoted that cause the mint to downsize or remove? It has happened before.

Better hoard all of these type 1 BS quarters. They are going to be rare.

With China going all-digital, this could be the final US coin series ever minted for general business usage.

Get ‘em now, the scalpers already have the bribes out to Brinks and Well’s Fargo employees.

  31. CaliSkier says

    James W says: “ Caliskier,

    Really????

Although pre announced, tell me how ridiculous the 1,945 mintage, V75 AGE and 2021 type 1 AGE mintages didn’t “leave a bunch of money on the table”? Yeah and those collectors weren’t pissed by any means?

How about the 2020 and 2021 ASE’s? Money on the table?

How many more(1000+?) 2020 American Samoa Bat Pucks(20,000) could they have sold?

    How about another 10-25k 2020 V75 ASE’s?

How many more 2021 Congrats sets could have been sold???

So as far as money on the table being left, the Mint has and does do it, over and over again!

As far as not upsetting their long time customers, have you been collecting long, as the sentiment seems to say they have regularly pissed off customers over the past 7-10 years, at least and really don’t seem concerned at all???

  32. CaliSkier says

BTW, IMO the 2021 P Tuskegee 5oz mintage will come in, somewhere between14,750-16,500 max, a far cry short of 20,000! The absolute max will be right at or around 16,700?

I managed to pick up 42 of 56 of them from the Mint and have observed a thing or 2 regarding mintages, designs and the aftermarket over the past 13-14 year’s.

By no means a specialist, however at this point, nothing has, does or will ever surprise me again when it comes to the US Mint???

How about the bomb the Mint dropped with the 2019 S Enhanced Reverse Proof? The 30,000 mintage didn’t leave any money on the table, nor did it upset their long term collectors, said “no one ever”?

  33. SteveW says

@IJTR… your reference to the initials BS for the designer, is that on the Washington with sword reverse? I am unable to see any info about that on the mints website.

  34. Coinasaurus says

    56 Pucks ! Such a waste,

Not even an eye catching Paper Weight like an Armani or Lladro.

Good as a Pooper Scrapper though.

  35. John Q. Coinage says

IMHO none of the burnished really carry a good resale value except HI, AK & otherwise you get paid @ LCS almost the same for bullion v. burnished P. After asking the LCS said they have NEVER ever had someone come in looking specifically for a burnished ATB-any of them! The shoppers want Ag not an overprice paperweight Jr…… In the long term Ag will pass the price of P ATB$ I suspect, when is another Q…. I say fasted sellout then expected for these no way around till December, 2021……

  36. says

    Caliskier,
I was only stating a fact that there is NO WAY this last quarter will be low mintage wonder,
And to even suggest it is ridiculous! Sure the mint does those short mintage coins like the V75 AGE & 2019 Silver Enhanced Reverse Proofs that I wasn’t able to get like 99% of the public. This is to stir up interest & make money for certain people who have an in, I never said they play fair or even know what they are doing!. The Samoa coin would have sold maybe another 1,000 at best but I believe the mint wants to wrap this series up, look At Vermont? Where is the interest in what could be the lowest mintage? NONE! That’s why they made a 13,750 mintage on those coins because they knew it would take forever to see 16,000+…….look at the 2017 American Liberty Gold Coin sold 4 years ago TODAY, The mint truly over estimated the popularity of this coin ( I never bought one) & probably made 40,000+ & are stuck with them, only sold (27,190) end of 2017,(29,807)end of 2018,(31,059)end of 2019,(32,762)end of 2020, & only 714 more coins this year to get (33,476) So by keeping this DUD available does that mean they aren’t leaving anything on the table?, If they came out with a mintage of only (30,000) they probably would have got there in 2017 & been done with it. That’s what the mint wants, a quick buck, HYPE & SELL then on to the next coin.

  37. says

The only reason I believe the Tuskegee coin will be around till the end of the year & not a quick sell out is because I don’t see any interest? Who is going to buy multiples of this coin thinking it’s an easy flip at 229? Not Me! I believe the mint will over estimate this coins popularity making 16,000+ causing a slow sell out, people will pay 154 or 178 ( for a paper weight) but once you go to the well again & ask 229, people usually start to wise up. We will see how those Silver Proof sets do at 105…….I can’t see 250,000 – 300,000 like some say it will, I estimate 210,000 at tops!

  38. SteveW says

It will be interesting to see how the Tuskegee puck fairs. Buy one one these and pair it with the 3” Tuskegee bronze medal and it might look nice. Military symbols usually sell well. The Tuskegee museum will probably buy a lot to sell in the visitors gift shop as a fund raiser. John Q. says it sells out at the end of the year, I’ll take the under on this gentleman’s bet.

  39. Coinasaurus says

  41. Erik H says

If you buy 4 silver proof sets on 4-20 it will cost you $420.

I know CaliSkier and a few others will get it, LOL

  42. Erik H says

I just noticed that the enrollment page shows the release date for the Silver Proof as April 20th but on the product schedule it shows April 22. Is this something new with enrollments going sale earlier than the general public sales?

  43. CaliSkier says

Erik H says: “ Is this something new with enrollments going sale earlier than the general public sales?”

The product page update person must have been doing a little wake and bake experiment, as 4/20 is no longer up on the page?

Good catch Erik. (No longer up?)

The US Mint could have included a 1/8th oz, green nugget as a promo and sold out day 1! Oh yeah the Feds/Gov is still trying to figure out how to monopolize/control a plant in addition to the sun(solar energy))???

The Mint is also missing out on a “Hemp for the War Effort” series, that would more than likely, sell like wild fire! (PI)

For those in the know versus “no”, here is a funny way to start your day! The Cali Sober way! Will Noonan from Best of Boston Stand-Up Vol 1.

  44. John Q. Coinage says

Yup Hemp was big in the day, now in Florida or GA they throw you in jail for a CBD cream, a joint you go to the joint….. 420 series, Skunk Train Sativa……. Inky Indica…… I still think the Tuskeegee goes CU sometime this year, maybe they did 40k bullion & 10k Burnished…….we’ll see kids……match it with my Warm Springs P that cost I think $279, what were we thinking…..Ag hits 60 you break even………..2060

  45. Chris Lehr says

So is this sold out at the mint then? Last in the series, a beautiful coin as well, shows out of stock…
