A gynecologist dubbed 'the uterus collector' performed hysterectomies on every woman he came across at an immigration centre in America, a whistleblower claims.
An official complaint has been filed with the Homeland Security Department's internal watchdog about the doctor's alleged actions at the Irwin County Detention Center in Ocilla, Georgia.
Whistleblower nurse Dawn Wooten is not convinced that all of the female immigrants who received hysterectomies knew their uteruses or fallopian tubes would be taken out by the medic.
She claims the medic removed the wrong ovary of a young woman, who had a cyst, leaving her unable to have children after she had the other one taken out.
Ms Wooten, who worked as a nurse at the centre until she was demoted in July, said: "Everybody he sees has a hysterectomy - just about everybody.
"He's even taken out the wrong ovary on a young lady. She was upset. She had to go back to take out the left and she wound up with a total hysterectomy.
"She still wanted children - so she has to go back home now and tell her husband that she can't bear kids… she said she was not all the way out under anesthesia and heard him (doctor) tell the nurse that he took the wrong ovary."
Ms Wooten and her colleagues questioned the number of women having hysterectomies under the doctor, Mail Online reports.
She said his speciality was 'taking everybody's stuff out', describing him as the 'uterus collector'.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which houses detainees at the centre, said it took all allegations seriously.
Ms Wooten said she was demoted after falling sick with coronavirus symptoms and missing work.
She believes she was targeted for questioning whether more detainees had Covid-19 than was officially recognised.
LaSalle Corrections, which runs the centre, has been approached for comment.
