Guerlain Muguet 2017

I’m having a bit of a moment with Guerlain fragrances just now – it’s a timely reminder, in amongst the plethora of new fragrance brands, that sometimes heritage brands are best. I mean, look at this! As in the UK, the first day of May is a public holiday in France. Traditionally known as Fete du Travail (Labour Day), it’s also known as La Fête du Muguet – Lily of The Valley Day – and incorporates the tradition of giving a posy lily of the valley to loved ones.

Guerlain Muguet 2017

We’ve very much in the land of dreams with this special, limited edition of Muguet. There’s a charming embellishment from the Bizet Studio, famed for luxury embroidery, wrapped around the lid and draping gently over the bottle. It’s so pretty and all the better for knowing that they’re hand-made at the Atelier Bizet in Levallois-Perret. So, artisan techniques meeting traditions from times past combined with a fragrance celebrating a flower steeped in folklore. Everything is perfect here. I say we are in the land of dreams because the limited edition is £360. Imagine, though, being given this on your wedding day.

The lily of the valley scent needs no explaining, but Guerlain has topped it up with a tiny smidge of jasmine and rose that makes it even more heady and positive. It’s a happy fragrance – we should celebrate spring more I think. As a note, until 7th May, if you buy a Lily of the Valley bouquet (now I know such a thing exists, it’s all I want) from Philippa Craddock, you’ll receive a luxury fragrance sample of Muguet 2017 (at Selfridges). You can find the limited edition boxed editions in store at Harrods or Selfridges.
