Von Pea & The Other Guys ft. Donwill "The Twist"

Less than a year after releasing their 2017 album The Fiasco, Von Pea and The Other Guys are back with another EP, I'm Good Luv, Enjoy, and most recently, they dropped the first single, the Donwill-assisted "The Twist". It's a dope way to reintroduce us to their cipher, seeing as the first time Pea and the Guys linked up was a collab with Tanya Morgan.

"The Twist" is a chilled cut, perfect for your Sunday loungin'. Stream it in full below, and pre-order I'm Good Luv, Enjoy, which drops on September 14, via Bandcamp.

Milo and Elucid Team Up For 'Nostrum Grocers'

Crazy how these things work. According to the receipt I found stuck under the driver's seat, Nostrum Grocers (aka the collaboration from Milo and Elucid) was born almost three years ago, when Elucid flew out to Milwaukee to chop it up with Rory. They then sat on the project, not getting back into the project until 2017. Interesting enough, during the time this album was conceived to when it was released, both emcees became fathers. You can hear growth and optimism in the lyrics, although it packs equal amounts of black power and clarity in the 10-track opus as well.

Stream and cop this album via Bandcamp, and if you're in the NY area, you can hear it performed live on August 19 at Elsewhere (Zone One) in Brooklyn.

Donwill Released a Trio of Trap Kwanzaa Carols

Recently, the Another Round podcast held their Kwanzaa Spectacular in Brooklyn; I saw a pic Donwill shared on IG about a lit "Jingle Bells" song that he performed during the event, and he asked if he should drop it. I didn't say "fuck yes," but I replied with the swiftness, because what the hell? I know I don't celebrate Kwanzaa, but I'm not sure if any Kwanzaa songs are in my holiday playlists.

Well, that's changed now that Dondub's three-track Trap Kwanzaa Carols EP is available for the free. Don does exactly what it says on the tin, turning joints about dashikis and homemade cake into some of the most lit Kwanzaa anthems you never heard. Oh, and yes, "Jingle Boujee" is definitely a flip of Migos' 2017 anthem.

You want this amazing Kwanzaa-themed EP? Head over to Bandcamp and grab it, ASAP!

Von Pea and The Other Guys Are Back With A New Project, 'The Fiasco'

Back in 2014, Von Pea released To: You, an album that was produced front-to-back by The Other Guys. In a year that's seen projects drop from each, they've linked up together once again for a 10-track album, The Fiasco. From what I've heard, it's going to be a problem, especially if you're a fan of Von's pen.

Don't believe me? Check out these two tracks from the release. "Oh Yeah" features Von Tanya Morgan bredren Donwill on the mic, while Skyzoo and fellow Lessondary member Rob Cave drop bars on "Wires." The Fiasco drops November 24th. Pre-order today.

Elucid Releases His Impressive Cover of Zoe Leonard's "I Want A President"

Without giving me much info, Lessondary member Elucid sent me an MP3 of his cover of Zoe Leonard's poem "I Want A President." I actually played this immediately after placing my vote this morning, and wanted to make sure this impressive cover was released today; low and behold, he threw it up on Bandcamp for the world to partake in.

If you're not familiar with the original, this is the perfect sentiment to drop in a world where we could be electing the first female president, although "I Want A President" takes things a step further. In releasing the cover, Elucid dropped the following statement: "Dizzied by the chaos and confusion of both the US and South African presidential elections during the summer of 2016, I discovered the poem “I Want A President” by Zoe Leonard. The spirit It contained," he continues, "inspired me to record this cover version."

Stream and download this gem down below.

Donwill Is Dropping All Kinds of New Music

I'm not sure if it's because Lessondary finally dropped their album, but I'm loving all of the new Lessondary material that's dropping. Last week, it was a Tanya Morgan cut (produced by Che Grand), and this week, we not only get ANOTHER Che Grand-produced TM track, but we get a full EP from Donwill.

Yes, you read that right.

Lessondary's 'Ahead of Schedule' Has Been Released Ahead of Schedule

Of COURSE Lessondary, a crew we've loved at RTD for years, would drop their long-awaited album Ahead of Schedule ahead of schedule. Cop it TODAY via HiPNOTT in a number of formats (which include a bundle that has a dope t-shirt and one bundle that includes a bunch of Lessondary-affiliated CDs)!

Che Grand Up and Released A New EP, "Grandiose Patois'

With The Lessondary so close to finally dropping their long-awaited album, I wasn't necessarily expecting new material from Che Grand. I know he'd been working on stuff, but heard nothing about Grandiose Patois, which dropped late last week...and is fire.

It's totally produced by Che, and only has one feature (the homey Von Pea on "Mental"). It shows off the different sides of Che's sound, from the free jazz strumming to the straight up hypnotic hip-hop. Nothing to sleep on, you freaks.

DJ Low Key Proves That The Lessondary Are #Never2ndary

With the new Lessondary album Ahead of Schedule finally set to drop on June 24, it's dope to see DJ Low Key dropping what might be seen as the definitive look at the parts that make up the Lessondary crew. This trek through some of the finest material from the squad includes some of my personal favorites, like the N.E.R.D.-flipping "Lessondary Noise." It's dope to see how often the crew has linked up to create magic on a track.

You can stream the tape down below, and grab it for your music listening devices via Bandcamp.

The Lessondary Crew is FINALLY Dropping That Album

I actually feel like an asshole; I'd seen this hit the Internets a bit ago, but life had me from actually peeping it. That kills me, because I feel like I've been waiting for this Lessondary group album for forever already. Think about it: the combined forces of Tanya Morgan, Ilyas, Elucid, Rob Cave, Jermiside, Brickbeats, AND Aeon?! I feel like I've been hearing about this at LEAST since the release of Brooklynati, and it looks like the squad has finally got the project to gether.

This first cut, which is the first cut on the forthcoming Ahead of Schedule, is a hook-less, hyper posse cut that finds the various MCs going for broke over a Brickbeats track. If you listen to this and don't understand why I fucks with them, you need your head examined.

Ahead of Schedule drops on June 24, 2016; pre-order via Bandcamp today.

The Oral History of Tanya Morgan

It's been a minute since we've hit you with an episode of Donwill's Bad With Names podcast, and while the rest are just as dope, I wanted to make sure you got up on the latest edition, which features an oral history of one of my favorite groups, Tanya Morgan:

"During the last days of our stay in the Bay area Tanya Morgan checked in with who could easily be considered one of the most important people in their careers, Dominic Del Bene. He's currently serving as Rooftop Comedy's Director of Production so unless you are a comedian his name may not ring bells but had it not been for him releasing their debut album Moonlighting you may have not heard of the group at all. In this episode we are given a brief oral history of Tanya Morgan and Loud Minority Music, the label that started it all."
