H.R. 4183 would require the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to study veterans’ disability compensation and pension benefits provided to members of the National Guard and reserve components of the U.S. Armed Forces between 2008 and 2018. That study would include a comparison of such benefits received by veterans who served in the reserve components and veterans who served in the regular component. A preliminary report would be due to the Congress within 18 months of the bill’s enactment, and the final report would be due within 36 months of enactment.
Based on the cost of similar studies completed by GAO, CBO estimates completing the study would cost $1 million over the 2020-2024 period; such spending would be subject to the availability of appropriated funds.
