We often host family brunch when family comes from out of town and our own weekend brunches. While I love muffins, if you are on the WW aka Weight Watchers plans, you will know those are not at all points, friend at all, or waistline-friendly. I love to have trim options to satisfy that sweet tooth or chocolate cravings that won’t wholly run me off track.

WHAT IS Weight Watchers?
When starting a new weight loss program or diet change, consult a doctor or physician about personal health concerns. It is a good idea to have blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and hormones checked at a physical before and during being on the WW program.
New to Weight Watchers?? Also known as WW, a weight loss program uses points assigned to food to track and lose weight. When you sign up, you take an assessment that will assign you a point value to eat daily and a weekly allowance. You can carry over 4 points from the day into your weekly budget, which is handy when you need more points.
I have been on Weight Watchers since 2011. They have had Points Plus Value, WW Smartpoints, Blue Plan, Green Plan, Purple Plan, WW Personal Points, and now Weight Watchers Points. The new Weight Watchers Simplified plan is the new program launched in November 2022, similar to previous plans like WW Smartpoints, with some color plans. ( You can see the Weight Watchers Zero Point Foods 2023 -> here)
No matter the WW plan, it works to help you learn healthy eating habits. I have hit my lifetime goal weight several times but stopped following the plan and tracking, so the weight does creep back on.
Right now, you can head on over -> here and sign up for Weight Watchers for $5 a month for the first three months.

Easy 3 Ingredient Chocolate Weight Watchers Muffins Recipe Ingredients:
- Chocolate Cake Mix– You can use a sugar-free cake mix to lower the calories in this recipe. Other flavors can be used for cake mixes.
- Greek Vanilla Yogurt– A Zero fat Greek yogurt will also lower the Weight Watchers Points per the muffins and the calories. I had full-fat Greek Yogurt on hand.
- Water
how to make muffins from cake mix
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
In a bowl, whisk together your yogurt and water.
Mix in the dry cake mix, you will not use any other ingredients on the cake mix box.
Take a paper towel and get it wet with vegetable oil.
Rub down the Muffin Pan with the greased paper towel so your muffins will easily pop out of the pan.
I always use a cookie scoop to fill the baking cups half full, which grow fairly large.
Bake for about 15-22 minutes, depending on your oven. I use a toothpick to check the doneness of the muffin.
Serve and enjoy!!

Be sure to recalculate your cake mix and how many muffins you could get from the batter in your recipe builder on the WW site. (Not a member yet? You can join here and get a free month; sometimes, they change the promotions, so be sure to look).
I made 40 mini muffins, which works out to 1 Weight Watcher per muffin. I think it would make 13-14 regular muffins. Now, be sure to replug your brand of ingredients and servings as different brands have different WW Smartpoints values, and if you make a different number of muffins, it will change the point value.
How To Store weight watchers chocolate muffins
Store in an air-tight bag on the counter for up to five days. You can freeze these in an air-tight container for up to 90 days.
Storing leftovers properly requires the right tools! My preferred storage method is if the leftovers can be sealed in a food saver. If not, then an air-tight container or Ziploc bag for the fridge is the way I go. The air-tight container and a freezer Ziploc bag are the next best bet for freezing the leftovers. I also use a food scale to measure portions into serving sizes.

How many calories please?
K. Huang says
What size yogurt- individual size or large 32 oz size?
Jenny says
Individual size.
Sherry says
These are mini so you used the small cookie scooper?
Jenny says
Yes, I did! You can scoop them with a spatula as well but I have a cleaner pan if I use the scoop. n
Veronica says
How should these muffins be stored to keep freshness
Jenny says
I store mine in a Rubbermaid container or in a Ziploc bag. Let me know if you like the muffins!
CJ says
I used a sugar free Chocolate cake mix, 1 cup of Oikos triple zero yogurt, one scoop chocolate protein drink mix and 1 C water. Made 60 minis for less than a point each. Some people have added additional sweetener like Stevia or Monk Fruit sweetener for a bit more sweetness. They are delish, either way.
Gale says
Would a sugar free cake mix affect the points?
Jenny says
Yes it would lower the points. I have never bought one to know for sure how much it would lower them.
TisaA says
The sugar free cake mix will give you 16 muffins at 2 SP each. Those are large full size muffins and they taste amazing! I added 2 eggs to mine and they turn out looking better than any bakery ones!!
Donna says
Could you tell me if the eggs were in addition to the recipe or a substitution for something else in the recipe? Thank you
Shirley says
The blog says do not add any ingredients that are on the box cake mix. 3 ingredients only…box cake mix..yogurt and water is all you need.
Carla Mellon says
did you decrease the water? since adding 2 eggs…
Mary says
No eggs!
marilee johansen says
how many carbs please???
julia says
can I cook these in the microwave, like for a mug muffin?
Jenny says
I am sure you could, I have never tried it. A batch doesn’t last long here because of the kid and their friends.
Marlene Ruskey says
I made a regular size muffin not mini. How many points is that? Don’t have a mini muffin pan
Jenny says
You would need to replug into the recipe builder with the number of muffins you baked to get the right point value.
Lisa says
When I plugged in these ingredients and made 12 full size muffins they are actually 6 points each. 😞
Jenn says
How do you figure points
Margarita says
Can you use plain Greek yogurt instead of the vanilla Greek yogurt.?
Jenny says
You can it will lower the points value too.
Sarah B says
I made these today after making my husband’s high calorie banana muffins, I truly love them. They came out delicious, thank you so much for sharing such a wonderful and guilt free reciepe.
Theresa says
Are they two points regardless of the color plan you are on?
Jenny says
Yes as of now they are.
Carina says
I made these with Pamelas gluten free cake mix, 1 cup of vegan soy yogurt, and 1 cup of water. They were outstanding! My husband said they were the best cupcakes I’ve ever made! Just wanted to let everyone know you can make these gluten free and dairy free 🙂 thank you for the great idea!
Jen says
I used the exact recipe with some changes.
I added a couple table spoons of ground flax seed
1/3 of a cup of espresso chips and 1/3 of a cup of sugar free dark chocolate chips.
I made it in a Bundt pan.
Sprinkled lightly with powdered sugar prior to serving.
I put it in the recipe builder in the WW app and it came out to 5 pts for 1/10th of the cake. Super good!
Carin says
I have not tried it yet. I was just stalking something chocolaty while doing WW. I’m on purple. Anyone else on purple? I haven’t yet tried to “plug in recipes.” I may have to give it a try to find out points.
Donna says
