Books For Guys (What My Husband Is Reading)

A long list of great books for guys also known as what my husband is reading.

A list of books for Guys

Have you ever wanted book suggestions to encourage your husband or son to read more?

Or have you ever wanted to get a book for a guy that enjoys reading, but did not know what book to get? Maybe you are a guy reading this and are looking for book recommendations.

We want to help!

Since the book blogging and social media world are full of viewpoints from women, I thought it would be fun to occasionally share what my husband is reading. We want to help you find great books for the guys in your life and thought this would be a fun way to do it.

These won’t be monthly reading lists, but I do plan to share and update the list occasionally. Because of my husband’s schedule and the fact that his job requires a lot of reading, he doesn’t read as much as Grace and I do, but he does read and I am looking forward to sharing some of what is on his reading list.

He reads a wide range of books, including history, science, Christian topics, theology, and biographies. Some of the books he reads are ones that Grace and I recommend, but others are on subjects he just enjoys learning about.

My husband also listens to a lot of audio books, so not all of these are books he read. Some of them he listened to while driving to work etc.

I hope it helps you add a few things to your TBR list. Or that it helps you add a few books to the man in your life’s TBR list.

Now for what my husband has enjoyed reading. He wrote a one or two-sentence review for each book, but you can also click on the title of the book for more details.

Books for Guys 2021

Fall and Rise The Story of 9/11 book review

Fall and Rise The Story of 9/11 by Mitchell Zuckoff

This excellent read is difficult and sad, but so good.

Sniper One book review

Sniper One by SGT. Dan Mills

A British military perspective of Iraq that is not often seen in the U.S., makes this an insightful and an excellent read.

Gently and Lowly book review

Gentle and Lowly by Dane Ortland

Informative view on the love of Christ. Very worth meditating on.

Fighter Pilot book review

Fighter Pilot by Robin Olds

An honest and thorough view of the U.S. Air Wars in WWII and Vietnam from a fighter pilot’s point of view.

Waco book

Waco by David Thibodeau

Having watched and read about the stand-off in the news back in 1990s it was fascinating to read the thoughts of someone who actually lived through it. It humanized the tragedy.

Midnight In Chernobyl book

Midnight In Chernobyl by Adam Higginbotham

As comprehensive of a view as possible into the design, building, explosion, fallout, heroism, and recovery of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and those involved and affected.

Mere Christianity

Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis

The chapter on virtues, especially pride, is insightful. His ideas on multiple subjects including the Trinity are not orthodox. He relied on philosophy and novel illustrations instead of Scripture. Not my favorite C.S. Lewis book.

Kiss the Wave

Kiss the Wave by Dave Furman

A great book about embracing God in your trials. A good book to give to those that need encouragement during difficult times.

John Adams

John Adams by David McCullough

A great honest book about history. A long, but worthwhile read.

Devil In the White City by Erik Lason

A study in contrasts surrounding Chicago’s World’s Fair.

Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALS Lead and Win by Jocko Willink

A basic business leadership book that would be especially good for those learning to lead.

The Splendid and The Vile

The Splendid and The Vile by Erik Larson

An excellent book covering the famous Churchill during his first year in office.

SOG The Secret Wars of America's Commandos in Vietnam

SOG: The Secret Wars of America’s Commandos in Vietnam by John L. Plaster

Probably one of the most definitive book on Special Operations and Operators around the time of the Vietnam War

Book Review of Boom Town

Boom Towm by Sam Anderson

The most entertainingly written book I read this year. It is a book I would not have picked up if it was not for my wife’s recommendation. The one warning I would give on this one is that it is PG-13.

In the Garden of Beasts

In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson

Not the typical WWII story, but a great read.

Bringing Columbia Home

Bringing Columbia Home by Michael S. Leinbach

A comprehensive look into the mammoth effort to recover the Space Shuttle Columbia and her crew after it exploded on reentry.
