This is one of the easiest Christmas drinks ever, but it’s so fun to make and drink (and it’s not just for children!). You can also make the marshmallow snowman in advance, pack them with a cocoa powder or chocolate buttons and make them into a budget-friendly Christmas presents.
To make the snowman, you will need
- Larger Marshmallows
- Pretzel sticks
- Dark Melted Chocolate
- Orange or Red Sweets for the nose
First of all, we need to link together three marshmallows. A lot of recipes, I’ve seen use toothpicks to do this, but I find it a little dangerous. The idea is that the marshmallow snowman will melt away in your hot chocolate and you’ll forget you have sharp toothpicks in the mixture ending up either with floating toothpicks on the top of your hot chocolate or worse poking your mouth with one as you take a sip.
So, for my version of the hot chocolate snowman, I have decided to stay clear of toothpicks and use extra pretzel sticks. If you make a short incision in the marshmallow first and then push the pretzel sticks in, it holds as much as you need it.
Use pretzels to create short legs and hands like in the photo.
I’ve used an orange sweet for the nose, but you can also cut off a little bit of orange or red jelly sweet (even a gummy bear can be cut to create the nose). Open a little bit of the marshmallow with sharp scissors and insert the nose
Next, melt a little bit of dark chocolate and place it in a piping bag. Carefully pipe the body buttons, eyes and mouth. If you don’t have any suitable sweets to creat the nose, you can even pipe a little nose with the chocolate.
Leave it to set in a fridge or somewhere cold and keep until you need them. You can easily make the snowman in advance and keep a little stock of them in the cupboard ready to make your hot chocolate.
Hope you enjoy making this festive treat and if you fancy staying with the snowmen theme, don’t miss out on my new (free) printables of melted snowman water bottle labels.
