Vintage Rusty Lid Ornament!

Good morning! I hope you are having a fabulous weekend!
I am up on the Scrapbook Adhesives blog today with a vintage ornament.  Over the years my style has evolved, but vintage still makes my heart flutter.
Over the summer I take lids from candles and soak them in vinegar water.  You can do this with silver jingle bells too! I leave them all summer until they are beautifully rusted! I die cut a circle to fit inside, sponged ink on the edges, and stamped the image in black. I colored it using Copic Markers. I added a bit of glimmer using a Wink of Stella pen.
I didn't want the image to sit too far inside the lid, so I used Scrapbook Adhesives Crafty Foam tape.  I stacked 3 layers under the image and adhered it in place.  I used the Dual Tip Glue pen to add the glittery snow underneath her.

I die cut the poinsettia using a Spellbinder's die.  I colored it with Copic Markers and then gave each layer a coating of glue using the Dual Tip Glue pen.  I sprinkled it with glitter.  I assembled the flower and wanted it to sit up on the lid, so I once again, used the Crafty Foam Tape underneath it.  I added some gems (Queen & Company) and dots of silver Stickles around the perimeter.
Have a wonderful Sunday! Thank you for popping by!

Eskimo Kisses!

Happy Tuesday to you!
I love making ornaments to give away to friends and family (and some to keep)! I pulled out an old set from Crafty Secrets and stamped the image in grey on kraft card stock.  I wanted to try my hand at "no line" coloring.  (Not sure I really succeeded).  I used my Prisma Colored Pencils.
I cut the image out with a die from Tattered Rose.  I threaded a bit of string through it. I tied some silk ribbon from the Stamp Simply Store, with a jingle bell, and adhered it to the corner of the circle.  I dipped the edges of my circles in glue and added some glittery flakes.

This week is spirit week at school! Yesterday we wore our holiday hats and today is crazy sock day!
I love this time of year when the kids are excited and anticipating Christmas!  I think I appreciate it even more now that my own kids are grown. :)
My own kiddos come home next week for the holidays too.....so all is good in my world!
Have a wonderful day my friends!

My Last Crafty Secret's Design Team Post.....

I have been with Crafty Secrets for many years now, and am saddened to say that Crafty Secrets will be sold to a new buyer for all of Sandy's digital images.  In the meantime all digital products will be transferred and sold to an Etsy shop.  Sandy will announce soon when that happens.
I have loved my time on this amazing team, working with a multitude of talented ladies.
It will be a loss for me for sure.

Vintage is where my heart really lies. I created this ornament using this sweet St. Nick image from the Winter Printable Christmas Sheet. I cut it with a circle punch and gave it a dose of glossy accents. The rosettes were cut from glittery purple ombre paper, the bottom layer from gold.
The wooden ornament was picked up at a craft store, Michaels I believe. It was also given a thin coating of glossy accents and glitter.

As a finishing touch, I added purple rhinestones.
Here it is hanging snugly on my tree.

Lots of changes this year.  I am not always good with handling changes, so January should be interesting for me.  Hopefully other opportunities will come up.
In the meantime, I am trying my best to go with the flow.
:)
Thank you for always being a constant in my life.

Vintage Ornament

Good morning! I want to thank you for your kind comments yesterday. It really means a lot to me. I find this blog therapeutic in so many ways. Not just the crafting part but being surrounded by girlfriends. So thank you for your advice, your good wishes, and for just being there for me. I have a quick post today as trying to get a decent picture of this ornament just wasn't happening for me! So one picture is all ya get! LOL! I used my JustRite Snowflake die with an image from Crafty Secrets.
Lots of glitter was used here.  I also added rusty jingle bells and satin ribbon to finish it off.

I am finally finished with my Christmas shopping and even managed to clean my house a bit. Now to tackle the laundry! ;) Have a wonderful day!

Christmas Wish List

Good morning!  I am in my last week of school and then I have two weeks off to spend with my family.  My son is coming home from college and my hubby took next week off of work.  We want to spend some time together baking and heading downtown to see the lights.  In my heart I know these moments are fleeting and want to take advantage of the time given to us.
That is number one on my Wish List.
 Time. ;)
This card was created using Retro Christmas Digital Image and polka dotted paper from the Christmas digital paper kit, from Crafty Secrets.

I added bits of lace and two poinsettias using THIS fabulous new die from JustRite.  It was cut from water color paper and given color using my Zig Clean Brush Markers.  I added silk ribbon from the Stamp Simply Store and bits of gold tinsel ribbon.

This last week is always a bit crazy at school.
26 super excited 9 year olds can wear a gal out! ;)

Have a great day my friends!

Crafty Secret's Design Team Challenge With a Tutorial!

Good morning! It is the first Monday of December and that means it is time for another Crafty Secret's Design Team challenge! We would love for all of you to create a project and link up at the Crafty Secret's blog! So for my project this month, I was trolling around the Internet when I came across, how to rust Ball Jar lids. I loved this idea and decided to create my own!
Created by Michele Kovack

Once the lid was nicely rusted, I decided to use this Santa image from the Vintage Christmas CD. I added a Poinsettia and some gold cording to finish it off. It is such a fun way to create a vintage inspired ornament.

I adore this image and printed multiples of it to have for future use. :)
Here is my rusty lid.  I soaked it for about a week in a 1/2 cup vinegar and 1/2 cup bleach.   I put mine in a air tight container in the basement.  It smells nasty and you need to be careful when you open the lid.  The fumes are pretty strong.
I glued the lid back in place and used my Cropidile to punch a hole for the string.
I wanted to add a little accent so I used my Poinsettia die from JustRite.  I cut them out of water color paper.
I gave them a wash of color using my Koi water colors.
For the centers of my poinsettias, I added a dallop of glossy accents to the center and sprinkled on gold micro beads.

I have a few more lids in the works and will share sometime before Christmas!
Be sure to pop on over to the other ladies' blogs for more tutorials and inspiration!

Vintage Christmas

Good morning! I am home today with a sick girl today. She has the flu....and while she sleeps in a bit, I thought I would share a vintage Christmas card. The image is from Crafty Secret's Creating With Vintage Christmas CD. I added gold Stickles to the perimeter of the image.  I matted the image to a tag. The tag was given a bit of color using brown ink and a snowflake stencil.  I splattered it with a bit of pink water color.

The background was completely water colored in shades of green. The edges were edged with black ink to make it pop a bit more. For the finishing touches I added lace, gingham ribbon, and some rusty jingle bells.

Thank you for stopping by! Have a wonderful weekend! I am off to take care of my girl!

Your Support Means Everything!

Created by Michele Kovack

Good morning  my friends! I have a new card today with minimal embellishments! (gasp!) After spending a bit of time coloring this beautiful rose by Crafty Secrets, I didn't want to take away from it. The digital image can be found HERE.  I used my Prisma colored pencils and a white gel pen.  The background was given a bit of depth using Tim Holtz inks in shades of brown, green, yellow, and blue. I masked off the rose and gave it a bit of black water color splatter.

The sentiment was cut from the Girlfriend Creative Scraps.  I threaded some sheer gold ribbon vertically to finish off the card.

I am fighting a cold and woke up this morning with no voice.  Teaching 26 kids might be a bit of a challenge today! ;)
Wish me luck.....I'm gonna need it!

Crafty Secrets and Word Art Wednesday!

Good morning! I am excited to be a guest designer for Word Art Wednesday!
Crafty Secrets if offering one lucky person a $20.00 digital prize! Really Reasonable Ribbon is also offering a $10.00 prize!
I had the pleasure of working with this beautiful scripture.  I incorporated it with a digital Thanksgiving image from Crafty Secrets.  I merged the two using Photoshop.  I printed it on white cardstock and colored the image using Prisma Colored pencils.  I used a Spellbinder's die to cut out the image.  While the die was in place I sponged around it using several Tim Holtz inks in brown, green, and a bit of blue.

I splattered the perimeter with a bit of water and then a bit of black water color paint.  I removed the die to have a wonderful white crisp edge!  I added coordinating silk ribbon and pearls to the corners. And just because you know how much I LOVE sparkle, I added Ice Stickles to the perimeter of the card, as well as the veggies!

I want to take a moment to thank our Veterans.
I appreciate everything  you do to serve and protect this great country of ours.
Thank you for always keeping me company in my little cyber spot!
Have a wonderful day!

Crafty Secret's November Design Team Challenge and Linky Party!

Good morning and welcome to a brand new month!
It can mean only one thing.......the Crafty Secret's Design Team Challenge and Linky Party! Wahoo!
This month's theme was Christmas, but anything but a card.
My project this month all started with the metal piece that served as my ornament.  I've probably had it a hundred years and decided at this particular moment, that it would make a cute ornament. ;) And who wants to just hand someone an ornament? No one!  So I created the box with my Silhouette to make a cute little presentation!
Created by Michele Kovack
A little paint, a bit (or a lot) of glitter, a cute retro Santa, and a couple of jingle bells and you've got yourself a sweet ornament!
Created by Michele Kovack
Fuzzy earmuffs anyone?

The metal thingy-a-bob was given several coats of cream colored paint.  Once dry I put some glossy accents along the outer edge and then sprinkled glitter over it.

I am all about the little touches, so I grabbed some red Flower Soft and gave Mr. Snowman some fuzzy ear muffs. By the way, the retro Santa is part of the Crafty Secret's Retro Christmas collection.  I cut it into a circular shape using a Circle Spellbinder's die.
I didn't want the image too recessed in my metal thingy, so I added a bit of foam tape from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.  I used a bit of Tacky glue to make sure it didn't go anywhere.
Consider it extra security if you will! :)
Does anyone use clothespins A LOT when they craft?  I am constantly using them to hold items in place because I myself am way too impatient to hold it  myself!  I wanted a bit of gold tinsel around the circle.  Tinsel seemed perfect for this ornament, so lo and behold, the clothespins did my work for me. ;)
And one more look...in case you forgot because you were so bedazzled with my clothespins above. ;)

Vintage Halloween Witch's Hat!

Good morning! Happy Halloween Eve! I truly can not believe it is the end of October already! Where the heck did the time go?  Halloween already? Geez!
So to celebrate one of my most favorite holidays, I have a little witch's hat!
The hat itself is a Silhouette cut.
I used digital Halloween papers from Crafty Secrets for the entire project.  You can find them HERE.
I just can't help myself with the glitter, so I gave in to my obsession and glittered the heck out of my hat!
I added a few feathers, ribbon, and a flower.  The stick pin includes a sticker from Crafty Secret's Halloween Digital Scraps   collection.
My girl insisted on being a pink pirate this year.  (This girl LOVES pink!)Tomorrow we head to my sisters to do some pumpkin carving, trick or treating, and a bonfire.  :) I am going to do the NO rain dance tonight! Last year's Halloween was a wash due to the extreme cold and rain, it would be so nice for the kids to be able to get out!
Have a great weekend!
