aden + anais: winter sale & giveaway!

Normally you wouldn't think "winter sale" in April, but if you live in Utah you can pretty much have a winter sale any month from October through May. (In fact, it's snowing as I write this post.) But aden + anais' winter sale has nothing to do with what month it is but more with what products the sale features: Winter Warmth Swaddles and Dream Blankets. And a sale on baby blankets is definitely worthy of a that's hot! thursday post.

aden + anais is known for award-winning swaddling blankets made with super soft cotton muslin. Muslin "is a unique cotton fabric first introduced into England in the late 17th century." This fabric has a soft, light weave that enables an even airflow, which means your baby’s body temperature can adjust naturally. No chance of overheating or discomfort, yet the soft cotton muslin still ensures warmth for your little one.

aden + anais’ line of muslin swaddling wraps and blankets includes designs for boys, girls and a handful of unisex designs. You’ll find zoo animals and camo along with flowers and polka dots. Right now their 2-Pack of Winter Warmth Swaddles (scroll down; they are the last six products on the page) are on sale for $29.95 and the Dream Blankets are on sale for $39.95.

To receive the discount, visit adenandanais.com and enter promo code "wintersale" when checking out.

*** GIVEAWAY! aden + anais is giving one of our freshly baked readers their fabulous Lime-Brown Winter Warmth 2-packs (a $50 retail value)! Please leave a comment on this post and include a valid email address for our drawing. For 5 extra entries, mention this giveaway on your blog. To be eligible for the extra 5 entries, leave a comment below with a link to your post. The deadline for this giveaway is April 8th, 2009 (midnight). Good luck! --Emily

* The winner of our giveaway was chosen using Random.org, and the winner is Vicki! Congratulations!

Denim goes "deal of the day"

I'm either a member or an RSS subscriber of a few "deal of the day" sites, including Mockstar Baby, The Mini Social, Rue La La and Babysteals.com. I recently discovered a new one and it's all about denim--I think I'm in heaven!

Citizen Blues is a new face on the deal scene. Though Citizen Blues,
like other sites, provides customers with authentic designer clothing at a fraction of the price, the site only features one product a day. Short and sweet and to the point, perfect for those who don't have the time to shop.

You'll recognize many of the designer labels and Citizen Blues offers them for at least 50% off the retail price. It's a good thing they only feature one product at a time or I may max out my credit card in one visit! With a counter for each size you'll know just how many are left; you can judge if you have time to run an errand or if you better place your order immediately before your size is gone.

These days steals and deals on designer labels are more fashionable than ever, so this fashion trend tuesday be sure to add Citizen Blues to your high-style RSS feed. --Emily

Saving money is more stylish than ever!

In today's economy it's all about saving money. Fortunately I've never been a full-price shopper so buying things on sale, and especially clearance, comes naturally. Sometimes it takes a bit of patience while you wait for that must-have sweater to go on sale. And once in a while I experience the pain of disappointment when the skirt I want is sold out by the time I am ready to buy it. But I get over it quickly as I look for the next great deal. That's not to say you shouldn't pay full price for a high-quality wardrobe staple (or a fabulous and comfy pair of heels), but most of the time paying full price is just plain silly.

Fortunately for us a lot of retailers are cutting prices more often and by a higher percentage as they too feel the crunch of the economy. I swear Old Navy, Gap, Gymboree, Esprit, The Children's Place and many others are sending me more emails than ever about special sales and markdowns. Anyone else noticing their Inbox filling up rather quickly? In the spirit of saving and on this
fashion trend tuesday, I thought I'd share my recent budget-friendly purchases. (Just don't tell my husband; he doesn't know about all of these...yet.)

Victoria's Secret Hooded Pajama set (Not exactly what my husband had in mind and for some reason it doesn't look that sexy on a normal person like me...)

$19.99 regularly $39.50

Victoria's Secret Empire-Waist Wool Coat (This isn't the exact coat; perhaps they've already sold out. Mine is a similar style but hip length.)

$99 regulary $148 (mine was $65 regularly about $125)

New James Jeans via ebay (I love ebay for designer denim. Just make sure you go by measurements--waist, rise, inseam--and not size!)

$19.98
regularly $100+

Anthropologie Frosted Sigh Blouse (I justified this purchase because I had a $20 gift card--thanks, Bri!)

$59.95 regularly $118

Have you found any great deals in the past few weeks? Do you have any favorite websites and/or blogs you watch for upcoming deals and specials? We'd love to know! --Emily

Babycapes sale! 40% off all styles!

I reviewed Babycapes not too long ago on Boutique Cafe's Daily Dish. (You can read my Babycapes review here.) Though it took a few tries to get the hang of it we have fallen in love with this stylish, warm, super soft--and very safe--coat. The retail price (around $80) is a bit high for some budgets but since the coat can be worn from infant to toddler I still feel it's a worthwhile investment. Plus your child is a lot safer buckled in her car seat wearing a Babycape than that bulky sweater or coat!

If the price tag kept you from purchasing your own Babycape, you're in luck. The company just announced its American Economic Recovery Sale. All Babycapes are now 40% off! That is just about wholesale so you won't find a better deal anywhere online or at any other time of year. Don't wait too long to choose your favorite--popular styles will go quickly. You can view the entire collection online at Babycapesonline.com.

P.S. Keep your eyes open for our own special sale. We'll be announcing it soon! --Emily

pediped & Make-A-Wish; you can make it happen

Learning how you can support a cause is always a great way to spend a wonderful web wednesday so that's what we're going to do right now.

pediped Footwear, one of my most favorite children's footwear companies, has always b
een committed to giving back to the community. Even in this depressing and sometimes scary economy, pediped is making a very rare offer on its website. (Rare because this is only the second time the company has made such an offer.)

From December 17th through the 31st, pediped is reducing the price of select footwear and will donate 50 percent of the sales from these shoes to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Angela Edgeworth, pediped's president:

We believe in the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the good work it does with children. We are blessed with healthy children and feel compelled to make a difference in these children's lives. We initially pledged $50,000, but thanks to the generosity of our consumers, we are confident we can double that. We've reduced the price of our shoes, something we never do, as a way to give back to our consumers while benefiting this worthy charity. We hope everyone shares in the spirit of giving this season. Goodness knows people need it now more than ever. We should be thankful every day for what we have.

This is the first time pediped has partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and through its fundraising efforts the company has already raised over $87,000, enough to grant the wishes of 12 children with life-threatening medical conditions. You can view some of the granted wishes and keep up to date on pediped's goal by visiting the Make-A-Wish page on their website.

This special online fundraising event is good only through the end of December. You can learn more about this fundraiser and view the select footwear at pediped.com. Trust me, you'll want to do some shopping. Not only will it support a very worthy cause but you'll be dressing your child in some of the most stylish, child-friendly, even podiatrist-recommended footwear around. Can you tell I'm one of their biggest fans? (You can see for yourself by searching "pediped" on BoutiqueCafe.com.) --Emily

The Mini Social: designer duds for mom & baby up to 60% off

These days a lot more people are finding they have champagne tastes on beer budgets, especially when it comes to clothing. In a recent fashion trend tuessday post I featured Mockstar Baby, a site offering a daily steal on hip and edgy clothing for little ones. Today I have another one for you, The Mini Social.

Two fashion-forward moms are behind The Mini Social so you know it's going to be stylish yet simple and tailored toward moms like us. The Mini Social is an invitation-only site that features the latest designer clothing and accessories for mom and baby at up to 60% off. The site "hosts" two or more designer "socials" a week; I've already stopped by for the baby star social, while umi, Kayce Hughes and Nest Organics are going on right now. Think of it as your online exclusive sample sale!

The Mini Social isn't just about great deals on the hottest styles. A portion of the proceeds are donated to several charities, including the United States Fund for UNICEF and Shoe4Africa. I love it when my shopping does someone else some good!

See for yourself what The Mini Social is all about by signing up and visiting the latest designer socials. Refer a friend and receive a $10 credit when she places her first order! --Emily

Monkey-Toes on Oprah...and your little one's toes!

I love it when a mom-owned business receives good press and in the case of Monkey-Toes, it's really, really, really awesome press. (All mom-owned businesses should be so lucky!)

A while back Oprah interviewed Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in Telluride. This was actually one of the few episodes of Oprah I saw this year and somehow I missed the fact that in the first part of the interview, Oprah noticed Monkey-Toes' Little Lady Mary Janes in the mudroom of Tom and Katie's home. She even picked them up and commented about how cute they were. Now THAT is great press!

And if the first time around wasn't sweet enough, the interview is airing again so those of us who missed Suri's sweet little ladybug Monkey-Toes can keep our eyes peeled for Oprah's ooohs and aaahs this time around. Want to catch Oprah's interview with Tom and Katie? Click here for local listings.

Jenny Ford, the mom behind Monkey-Toes, had a little help from another mompreneur, Katja Presnal from Ladybug Landings. Katja had put together a basket full of unique gift items for the Cruise/Holmes family and Monkey-Toes' Little Lady ladybug shoes appeared on Oprah a few months later. Since then her shoes have been seen on other celebrity children including Tori Spelling’s son Liam. As a side note, you really should subscribe to Katja's blog, Ladybug Landings. She has so much info on PR and marketing, your head will spin...but in a good way!

I love this post on Classy Mommy about Monkey-Toes on Oprah. It features a great Q&A with Katja about the experience.

To celebrate a second round of great press Monkey-Toes is offering our readers $5 off so you can get your own pair of Monkey-Toes just in time for the holidays. Simply use code "OSURI08" (without the quotes) when checking out at Monkey-Toes.com.

Now all LeShan and I need to do besides watch Oprah tomorrow is figure out how to get someone like Minnie Driver's son Henry to wear our "i wasn't born yesterday shirt" while his mom is interviewed by Oprah...and his shirt is in full view! --Emily

Project Angel Food: celeb-signed Trina bags on eBay

Though it's almost 3:00 p.m. MST it's not too late to post a very hot that's hot! thursday so listen up (or read through...).

This year at Divine Design, the West Coast's premiere fashion and home shopping event, 100% of proceeds from sales will directly benefit Project Angel Food, an organization whose mission is to "nourish the body and spirit of men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-threatening illnesses."

At the event, leading designers donate fabulous fashions, furniture, beauty and gift items that are sold 50%-90% off retail. Trina, a line of luxury cosmetic bags, is donating close to $20,000 worth of product for the event but will also be raising additional money for Project Angel Food in a
special auction on eBay starting December 5th. These auctions feature Trina bags signed by an impressive list of celebrities!

I absolutely love Trina--I was lucky enough to review Trina's Weekender bag on Boutique Cafe's Daily Dish. If you're looking for a new cosmetic bag or travel case, read my review.--you'll fall in love too! And if a higher retail price makes you hesitant about purchasing one, the following eBay auctions give you the perfect opportunity to own one at less than retail (unless of course the bidding gets out of control...a great thing for Project Angel Food, a not-so-great thing for you).

Here are the don't-miss eBay auctions of
celebrity-signed Trina bags:

The auctions
end December 13th so add them to your "watch" list. Just don't go watching the one signed by cast members from Ugly Betty...that one is SO mine!

If you have a blog or other website where you can post updates, please pass the word along. The auctions are for a very worthy cause. You'll be supporting Project Angel Food and crossing off an item on someone's wish list. I love win-win situations! --Emily

let the shopping begin!

Or rather, let it begin Thursday evening at midnight! The day after Thanksgiving, more commonly known as Black Friday, is the day my sister gets up at 4am to hit the stores. The earliest I have set my alarm is 6am--nothing has even been important enough to get up before then! The Monday following Black Friday has unofficially (maybe officially by now!) been named Cyber Monday. It is quite possibly the biggest online shopping day of the year and shoppers will find deals and steals at numerous online retailers.

We've put together this post linking you to a few sites listing the latest and greatest online coupon codes for your Black Friday to Cyber Monday shopping experince!

*NOTE: Check freshly baked tomorrow for our fantastic promotion (25% off and $5 Priority Mail shipping, anyone?), complete with special coupon code, good from November 28 through December 1, 2008 midnight. It's the best deal we've ever offered our customers, so don't miss out!

  • ShoppingByMail.com: This blog has a great Black Friday Roundup post. I love that they offer a little more detail than just a promo code and percentage--and the list is quite extensive!
  • BlackFriday.info: The site name tells it all; it is "the official site for all of the 2008 Black Friday ads." As it gets closer to Black Friday, 2008, the site will have sale information along with Black Friday ad scans.
  • CyberMonday.com: Another one where the name is rather fitting! CyberMonday.com brings you special offers from hundreds of merchants during the holidays and throughout the year. On Cyber Monday the site will have hourly specials and exclusives from numerous online retailers. You can get sneak peeks of the hourly deals by signing up for email alerts.
  • Moms Buzz: Though I don't have a specific link for you right now, I do know Moms Buzz will be doing a Cyber Monday post listing special deals from a wonderful selection of stores and boutiques, many of which won't be listed on sites like BlackFriday.info and CyberMonday.com.
  • Black Friday 2008: Black Friday ads by store; features online and offline specials.
  • MomFinds.com: Scroll down for their Black Friday Shopping Tips post. Great info and links to other sites with steals and deals.

I'm sure there are more blogs and sites out there interested in bringing you great deals so if you know of one or two, please comment and include a link so other online shoppers can do their part to boost the economy. ;) Happy shopping! --Emily

is your baby a Mockstar Baby?

If you’d love to dress your little one like the rock star she is but aren’t willing to sell your front-row Timberlake tickets to do so, then Mockstar Baby is your backstage pass to rockin' baby clothes at a nosebleed-seat price.

Mockstar Baby, which offers "random deals at a chaotic pace," is similar to the popular site Steep and Cheap. If you're not familiar with Steep and Cheap, the concept is this: the site features one fabulous deal at a time until the inventory (often very limited) sells out. As soo
n as one deal is gone, another one is listed immediately. This happens 24/7 at a break-neck pace. From Hurley tees ($11 instead of $18) to Roxy hoodies (I was too slow to miss this deal--dang!), the deals are fast and furious--and fabulous!

If you find your day already filled to online capacity with Twitter, Facebook and actual work, Mockstar Baby's got you covered with their Get the Poop desktop alert. Simply download the alert and you'll receive instant alerts as soon as new products are available. If you're MIA for a while you can even find out which new products you missed. I'm not sure I need this feature--I hate hearing about what I've missed! Like when my friends went to The Police concert at Usana Ampitheater and all I got were some dumb Facebook photos...But I digress (as usual)...

Mockstar Baby also has a blog, and though it's a fun read--especially for parents who remember the first X Games--their audience is parents of infants and toddlers. They might want to rethink their recent post:

... It’s time to break out the hoodies and beanies to battle the pre-snow mornings…oh hell ya!! Got a bitchen hoody or jacket to hang on your kids? If not…we’ll hook you up!
Kind of reminds me of those 40-something moms who are trying so desperately to dress and act like their teenage daughters. But if they're determined to keep their blog's rock-star edge they could at least spell "bitchin'" correctly. ;)

Blog aside, Mockstar Baby is not just another passing fad like high-waist pants (I seriously hope this is a very quickly passing fad...). This up-and-coming site is your ticket to sweet clothes at a super sweet price. Now all you have to worry about are the groupies your new mockstar baby is sure to attract! --Emily

Breezy Beach Wear closeout

My sister-in-law makes the most beautiful Hawaiian-themed hair clips and scrumptious-smelling soaps; they are definitely a great fit for a that's hot! thursday post. Unfortunately Breezy Beach Wear is taking a hiatus during this slow market and she is closing out most of her inventory. Here are the details as to what's on sale and what's in store for some of her other items:

Our apparel items (Tops, Hats & Neckties) will still be available at Zazzle at this link: http://www.zazzle.com/breezybeachwear. Plus, I can always design a custom Breezy Beach Wear shirt, hat or necktie for you; just send me an email with what you have in mind!

Our handmade bath bars and handcrafted silk flower hair clips will be available upon request via breezybeachwear@yahoo.com.

We have discounted all of our items (except the Zazzle apparel products) on our website to wholesale prices. Our items now range from $2.00-$50.00. Please visit our website at www.breezybeachwear.com. We will keep the site open for a few short weeks with these markdown prices. Our inexpensive items make fantastic Christmas gifts! And if you live in the Jacksonville area, I would be happy to bring by swimwear for you to try on. I can also deliver your items to save you the shipping costs.
Fortunately her other business, Breezy's Laughing Place, is doing well so if you or anyone you know would like a true expert and Disney lover to help plan your next Disney vacation, visit her site. I have seen some of these travel books she prepares for clients and they are amazing! You won't find a better, more affordable service anywhere. the laughs will go on...with georgie tees!

Sometimes for fashion trend tuesday we like to toot our own horn, or rather share with you a site or blog that toots it for us! (The truth? LeShan isn't feeling well and so our fashion trend expert isn't able to give you her typical insight and wisdom; you've just got lame ol' me today!) But still, this is a fabulous review and a really fun blog to boot, so fashion trend tuesday isn't a total loss!

Andrea Yanke, an expectant mother-to-be, reviewed our "oh, baby!" maternity tee on her blog,
The Laughs Will Go On:

I got a bunch of comments in church on my 'Oh, Baby!' shirt the other day though! Yeah...unique, non-Walmart brand clothing draws more attention than I thought. I also love that their maternity tee's (all of their stuff actually!) is 100% cotton! Yay! Cotton rocks. :) Really it does. It's soft, and never EVER EVER itchy. So I'd say the 100% cotton is a big bonus - especially for maternity tees cuz lots of them have a certain percent of spandex or something in there to give them more stretch. But this one still has stretch...I'm not having twins (boo hoo!!) so I think I'll make do without the extra stretch this time around! At least I sure hope so! haha. ;)

Georgie Tees also has some of the CUTEST baby clothing. If only I had twins I think I would get all of their twin onesie sets - they are just adorable!
If you read the rest of our review on The Laughs Will Go On you'll get a special code for 20% off your georgie tees purchase! And if you haven't visited our site lately you'll find a few styles are currently 50% off--that's some very fashionable savings! --Emily
