Delights for heart,
soul and mind:
Hinduism Today's October-November-December 2010 issue
"Moving, lighthearted, warm, human, Divine, wonderful, enchanted, astonishing..." Critics couldn’t find enough words to praise Nina Paley's film, Sita Sings the Blues, a charming retelling of the Ramayana from Sita’s (or a woman's) point of view. Some Hindus felt it a bit too lighthearted, but many more love it. See the movie, read the article and see what you think. We bet you'll be delighted.
Humankind's greatest festival sets a new record with an inconceivable 50 million souls. Mark Twain wrote of his 1895 visit to the Kumbha Mela, "It is beyond imagination, marvelous..." Yes, and buoyant, happy, elevating and transformative. There is nothing remotely comparable on this wide earth. This article full of dazzling photos takes you right into the heart of it as pilgrims themselves tell of their experiences.
Great debates
If you delight in a good debate, intelligent reflection or breathtaking scripture, you have plenty to enjoy in this issue.
Top of photo: • Prof. Arvind Sharma (hat) makes a brilliant apologia for his choosing to be a Hindu • Deepak Chopra and Assim Shukla debate yoga's abduction from Hinduism, pro and con.
Bottom: • a sublime Agamic discourse by Lord Siva on meditation and the Self. • a texting debate between two teenage friends, the evangelizing Christian insisting that all Hindus will end up in Hell, and the Hindu asking why. Read and see if she gets a sensible answer.
Bottom row: two glimpses of soaring (literally) Hindu craftsmanship, a new, high-tech way to gild temple towers, and the creation of a giant bronze Siva Nataraj. Then there's our loveable Prahlad Jani, that a team of doctors scrutinized day and night for two weeks to conclude the impossible: yes, he lives without food or water! Thank you, science, I knew we could get along!

Ever wonder how it is possible to give away a magazine freely (via no-charge PDFs offered above) and still make ends meet? And we do offer many other free resources on our website, carefully researched, clear, authentic resources that you'll find nowhere else.
We have to admit that, accounting wise, it does pose its challenges. But it is so well worth the effort, with tens of thousands of people—especially youth—imbibing all those precious teachings who wouldn't otherwise. We are inspired. We want to do more—there is yet, oh, so much more to tell!
To help us move forward, please consider the following:
