Terror-Tied CAIR’s “Islamophobia in the Mainstream” Report Rebuked, US Rabbis Decry Report As ‘Antisemitic’ Fake News

This will be a quick look at CAIR’s latest Islamophobia report, which is entitled “Islamophobia in the Mainstream.” You can find it here.

US Rabbis Blast American Islamic Group’s Report on Islamophobia as ‘Antisemitic’ Fake News

The Coalition for Jewish Values, which represents more than 2,000 US rabbis, denounced a recent report from the Council on American-Islamic Relations on Islamophobia, calling it “both pro-terror and antisemitic.”

“In every case, CAIR is deliberately claiming that to reject terrorism is anti-Muslim,” Rabbi Yaakov Menken, CJV’s managing director told Fox News Digital. “It is hard to imagine something that incites animus towards Islam and all who practice it more than the idea that tolerance for Islam requires acceptance of atrocities committed by purported believers.”

“Islamophobia in the Mainstream” is a collection of previous CAIR reports.

Part 1 is a review of “Hijacked by Hate.”

Both “Hijacked by Hate” and “Islamophobia in the Mainstream” share the same thesis: Donor Advised Funds are underwriting “hate.”

From “Hijacked by Hate“:

“traditional American charities, foundations, and philanthropic institutions are being used to anonymize and funnel money from powerful donors to the Islamophobia Network”

From “Islamophobia in the Mainstream“:

We hope this report illustrates how mainstream Islamophobia is and how foundations normalize anti-Muslim animus by pouring millions into organizations that produce misinformation.

In 2019, Hijacked by Hate was reviewed by Capital Research.

Their report found that CAIR also receives funds from Donor Advised Funds.

Upon further inspection, the accusation falls flat. CAIR itself gets money from Schwab and Proteus, both donor advised funds, according to Foundation Search. And while it has not received funds from Fidelity or Vanguard, the Islamic Society of North America did ($176,600 from Fidelity, $79,500 from Vanguard). The U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations, Islamic Circle of North America, Muslim Public Affairs Council and the Muslim Legal Fund of America have also received donations from Fidelity and/or Schwab donor advised funds. – https://capitalresearch.org/article/cairs-new-islamophobia-report-part-4/

In fact, CAIR belongs to their own network, and they have a lot of money. Something like $1,639,327,636.

So, for CAIR to characterize itself as a tiny “civil rights” organization fighting against a vast “Islamophobic” network is literally the polar opposite to the truth. CAIR is part of a vast Red/Green network, fueled with billions of dollars in foundation money, and dedicated to the evaporation of the United States as the secure, prosperous constitutional republic that has inspired nations across the globe and served as a magnet for immigrants seeking a better life, for over 200 years.

When reading any of CAIR’s reports, it is necessary to keep in mind that it is CAIR, not someone else, who is talking to you.

For example, in “Islamophobia in the Mainstream,” CAIR says “some have argued.” But, there is no “some,” only CAIR. The citation takes us to the footnote, where the link takes us to a report from CAIR. Where they say the same thing about Donor Advised Funds.

“As thought leaders in philanthropy have argued, even if the actual dollar amounts to hate groups from community foundations remain small in the context of the sector’s enormous contribution to the public good, those funds nonetheless contribute to the normalization of hate speech and activity. More importantly, hate-funding directly undermines the civic mission of community foundations by going against their values and harms the safety of the communities they represent”

Notice that they admitted they don’t have much of a case, but they would still like to have their way anyhow.

Part 2 is restating three of CAIR’s school bullying reports from California, Massachusetts, and DFW.

This problem with self-reference is present in CAIR’s bullying reports as well. The pattern is the same for all 3 reports. CAIR surveys a small number of students and gives us percentages based on that number. They never compare their percentages to the total student population.

For example, CAIR tells us that 15% of survey participants in Texas reported having their hijab pulled. The total DFW student population is

  • 153,861 students Dallas
  • 76,000 students Fort Worth

CAIR has said they only surveyed grades 7-12. So let’s take the lower Fort-Worth number to compensate for the inclusion of the K-6th grade population.

A survey conducted by the CAIR-DFW office covering the Greater Dallas Fort-Worth areas reached a total of 321 Muslim students between the ages of 11 and 18 who were enrolled in public and private schools statewide

CAIR’s survey size of 321 students is only .42% of the total population (76,000), not even half of 1%.

That means:

  1. 25% of 321 is 80/ .1% of student pop did not feel welcome and respected in school.
  2. 42% of 321 is 134/ <.2% of student pop reported that students from their school make offensive statements and posts about Islam and Muslims online.
  3. 41% of 321 is 131/<.2% of student pop did not respond that they feel comfortable engaging in class discussions about Islam and Muslims.
  4. 48% of 321 is 154/ .2% of student pop experienced some type of bullying including verbal insults, physical abuse, and cyberbullying.
  5. 15% of 321 is 48/ .06% of student pop reported having their hijab tugged, pulled, or other forms of offensive touching.
  6. 23% of 321 is 74/ .097% of student pop reported being victims of cyberbullying.

These are microscopic percentages of the overall student population. Remember the percentages would be even smaller with a more precise number of the total student population.

Could some of the lower percentages such as the 15% hijab pulls be from the 7th graders who manage to cope better in high school, suggesting that children begin socializing better over time, and there is no crisis?

Even among CAIR’s handpicked survey subjects, the majority keep saying they don’t have the problems CAIR is looking for.

This would be further evidence that CAIR does not represent the Muslim community.

Part 3 consists of mosque vandalism and fires.

Examples include:

Utterly Blessed

“Charleston, South Carolina, February 2020 – A College of Charleston student
was arrested and charged for vandalizing the Islamic Center of Charleston. The
words “Utterly Blessed” and an indistinguishable symbol were painted on the
wall at the Islamic Center of Charleston”

This really had little to do with CAIR. In fact, it is another example of CAIR not being a representative of the broader Muslim community.

All Lives Matter

Nashville, Tennessee, June 2020 – A sign at the Islamic Center of Nashville
was vandalized. An unidentified man changed the lettering on a marquee from
“Black Lives Matter” to “All Lives Matter”.

You have to be joking. But, no, they are not joking. They are heavily committed to the hope that no one will read their reports.

The Drunk Guy

Riverside, California, January 2020 – A Riverside resident made threats and
derogatory statements about Muslims at the Islamic Center of Riverside and
assaulted a security guard. He was booked into Robert Presley Detention
Center on suspicion of four misdemeanors: assault, violation of civil rights,
vandalism in the court of violating civil rights, and trespassing.

All of these cases seem to be isolated incidents. This case seems to show that the police have charged him, and the system is working . Are we to believe this wouldn’t happen if Pamela Geller were defunded?

New Haven mosque

New Haven, Connecticut, May 2019 – A New Haven mosque was intentionally
set on fire as determined by the New Haven Fire Department.

The only example of a mosque fire CAIR gives is this where police say although it was arson, there is no evidence it was a hate crime.

It must be said that there is nothing like the recent Colleyville synagogue attack in CAIR’s report.

If Pamela Geller is to be held responsible for anything bad that happens to Muslims, then shouldn’t CAIR take responsibility for the Colleyville synagogue attack? Especially considering CAIR has held 20 rallies in the past 3 months demanding Siddiqui’s release.

Parts 4 and 5 are a collection of things said online that CAIR does not like.

The fundamental flaw in CAIR’s report is their idea that defunding Pamela Geller is going to stop “Islamophobia.” CAIR never shows a cause and effect. Defunding their political opponents is the only remedy they can offer for school bullying, mosque vandalism, and mean tweets. The resulting increase in resentment of CAIR, in effect,  robbing people in the name of Islam, is apparently a price CAIR is willing to pay. In exchange for a potential increase in, say mosques burnings, CAIR will gain the ability to take money from people they don’t like.

There are too many examples to overlook of CAIR trying to hurt people. The desire to fire, defame, expose to danger, or hurt people is a prime motivating factor for the Council on American Islamic Relations.
