Scientific American Breaks 176-Year Legacy to Shill for Islamic Terrorism and Call For The Boycott Of Jews

Scientific American Breaks 176-Year Legacy to Shill for Terrorists and Promote BDS

CAMERA, June 12, 2021:

Scientific American‘s publication of “an opinion and analysis article,”  which promoted the antisemitic BDS campaign. (“As Health Care Workers, We Stand in Solidarity with Palestine,” June 2, 2021.) Thank you to all those who have written to SciAm. Some of you have received responses from Editor in Chief Laura Helmuth suggesting that CAMERA has erred in faulting the magazine for publishing a BDS petition.

Story continues below advertisement

While the editor of Scientific American justifies the article by claiming the magazine did not send it out online as a petition and labelled it “an opinion and analysis article,” the piece is currently being circulated online by activists as a BDS petition.

The petition explicitly states that its “principles and demands” are set forth in the document that was “published in Scientific American” and links specifically to that article. The fact that the text of the petition is being hosted by Scientific American is meant to give the petition more legitimacy.

Moreover, the demands that were clearly published by Scientific American specifically include “adher[ing] to the standards set forth by the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.” (Emphasis added.) When asked to retract the piece, the editors insisted that they “stand by the article.”

Given that the self-declared mission and intent of the BDS movement is to end the Jewish state, it is disingenuous to try to deflect responsibility for publishing an anti-Israel manifesto that is entirely based on lies (and forms the substance of a BDS petition) by claiming CAMERA misrepresented the facts.

Please continue to write to Scientific American

• Write to Editor in Chief Laura Helmuth at [email protected] and to Chief Opinion Editor Michael Lemonick at [email protected]

• Copy Stephen Pincock, Vice President, Magazines, Editorial and Publishing at Stephen.pincock@springernature.com  and Scientific American Publisher Jeremy Abbate at [email protected]

Firmly but courteously make the following points:

•  Ask them to retract this anti-Israel manifesto that makes up the text of a circulating BDS petition and that is based entirely on falsehoods.

• Let Scientific American know that the publication MedPage Today just retracted a similar screed, and ask SciAm to follow suit.
