Biden kills pipelines at home but promotes them for the Taliban

On his first day in office, President Biden canceled permits for the Keystone XL pipeline. Environmentalists and anti-fossil fuel activists should not have applauded his move.
Story continues below advertisementAfter all, Canada will not stop extracting oil from the tar sands of northern Alberta. Instead, it will simply export oil over existing pipelines or to the Pacific Ocean, where the damage from a potential spill would be harder to address. Biden’s cancellation cost jobs and pushes Canada toward greater economic cooperation with China. It also shakes confidence in U.S. business. Who would invest in the country if any future administration can simply renege on deals with the stroke of a pen? Especially, that is, when the investments involved here reach into the billions of dollars?
Biden’s move was both political theater and an indulgence of his liberal base. But his hypocrisy was stunning even for a politician who has spent a half-century in Washington. Consider that while the Biden administration is killing a pipeline from which the public could benefit, Biden is promoting a pipeline to enrich both one of the world’s worst dictatorships and a group responsible for thousands of U.S. deaths.
The government has apparently brokered a meeting between the Turkmenistan government and the Taliban for a trans-Afghanistan pipeline to bring Turkmen gas across Afghanistan and Pakistan to India. If this scheme sounds familiar, it should: It was the same deal that now-Special Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad sought to make with the Taliban in the years before the Sept. 11 terror attacks when he was a consultant for the Unocal Corporation.
Khalilzad’s scheme was bad policy two decades ago, and it is even worse now.

Put aside environmental arguments and consider profit. Freedom House’s latest Freedom in the World report ranks Turkmenistan as among the world’s worst offenders, below even North Korea in terms of freedom and civil liberties. To promote the export of Turkmen gas is to entrench its regime even further. Part of the deal is then paying the Taliban protection money or transit fees for the pipeline transiting Afghan territory. Not only would this undermine the elected Afghanistan government even further, but it would also reward the Taliban for insurgency to the tune of tens of millions of dollars each month. Who needs Russian bounties on U.S. soldiers when the State Department has crafted a scheme to reward the Taliban beyond their wildest dreams?
One issue here is Khalilzad’s penchant for using diplomacy as a stepping stone to cut side deals. But the other issue is U.S. strategic interests. Perhaps a misunderstanding of the Taliban agenda was an excuse 20 years ago. It should not be one now. If the Biden administration says no to pipeline jobs in the Midwest, it should not then turn around and help enrich the Taliban to ship Turkmen gas to the Indian Ocean. It is time for Secretary of State Antony Blinken to call his envoy, end this hypocrisy, and to stop coddling some of the world’s most anti-American movements.

He’s trying to crash or economy like Obama did. Watch as energy and gas prices, food prices etc. go up! Truckers and others pass it on to us! Inflation will be crippling to people. He wants us to be like an immoral Venezuela or worse. Fracking and drilling will be banned besides the pipeline being shut down. He wants us dependent on Muslim countries again.

“When are Americans going to realize this…” Never. The communists have had decades to infiltrate, dumb down, and destroy our education system and the young today are so indoctrinated that they no longer know how to think, only what to think, and what they think is communist. Critical theory and racism is the order of the school day especially in college. Standards have been lowered so that even the stupid can graduate – you know, equality of outcome. Older folks have grown up with the idea of equality of opportunity but young folks have been indoctrinated with equality of outcome and that outcome is that all are equally stupid, poor, and obedient.

I have to still believe there are young people out there with common sense in America…. I raised three sons and they do not believe like you say. But I will add that “those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” Socialism does not work ….. This Utopian Society is a lie and it does not and will not ever exist ….. It does not work…. but for stupid nations to learn this millions of people suffer and die in the process. Where is Hitler’s Nazi Germany? Where is Mussolini’s Fascism? Where is Stalin’s Communist Russia? Where is the old Greece and Rome? GONE, DEAD. Looks at the people in the nations that are still Communist like China, and Cuba and Vietnam…. are they smiling and happy? Is there nations prosperous and economically stable, is there health care the best in the world…. NO.. look at Venezuela, and Cuba, and China the people are miserable…. The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) is set to hear a number of high-profile election fraud cases. The SCOTUS is now scheduled to consider the voter fraud cases for Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Georgia on February 19, 2021. Justices will hear the cases that allege widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election.Among those to be heard are Republican Rep. Mike Kelly’s Pennsylvania election case, pro-Trump lawyer Sidney Powell’s Michigan election case, and attorney Lin Wood’s Georgia election case.
Nearly every lawsuit takes issue with the expanded use of mail-in ballots by many states, according to The Washington Examiner.The decision came after the court declined to fast-track all election-related litigation in early January.
In nearly every plea for expedition, lawyers backing President Donald Trump told the court that if the cases were not heard before Joe Biden’s inauguration, their success would be unlikely.
But after the court pushed them off, many lawyers said that the challenges were still important and could have long-term implications for election fairness.
Trump lawyer John Eastman told the Washington Examiner that even with Trump out of office, it was important to settle the issues raised by expanded mail-in voting.”Our legal issue,” he said, referring to the way in which Pennsylvania conducted the 2020 election, “remains important and in need of the court’s review.”

I think it is likely that God is not actually judging us yet as much as that He is allowing correction to take place for our own good. Christianity in America has not benefited from ease and comfort and the bizarre notion that somehow God replaced Kingdom purposes in America with wanting us to pursue the American Dream. Lots of difficulty and opportunity for real Christian ministry is at the door right here in this country. I think He wants us to sharpen our discernment and skills as well as see who will “fall away” under persecution and hardship and who will embrace His purposes in this time. Take heart. There are lots of people all around us who need a loving rescue from a horrific eternity.

Study Torah and you’ll see that your statement was wrong. This nation is most definitely under judgment now. It will NOT get better. We’ve allowed over 60 million innocents to be butchered in their mother’s wombs. The spilling of innocent blood is the most serious offense to our Holy God. It does shift economic activity and fossil fuels out of the US.
Alberta was having serious problems marketing the oil from their tar sands, environmentalists in Canada’s east, in Montreal I believe, weren’t permitting a pipeline across the Rockies to the Pacific, although with Biden’s cancelling Keystone, that could change, but there is already heavy taxes on the oil from the Canadian central government. There was discussion, or at least expression of frustration with the central government to such a degree that people in Alberta were calling for leaving Canada, perhaps joining the US, but I don’t think they would want to now.
T don.t see why they can’t build a pipeline to the Great Lakes and then transship by tanker, and could thus enter international commerce, but there may be environmental concerns.
Millions of tons of petroleum products are shipped by barge on the Mississippi and internal US river system.
If anything, the Biden administration is committed to renewables, wind and solar, possibly hydroelectric although massive power producing dams aren’t environmentally friendly.
Internationally, pipelines across Afghanistan will enrich the Taliban.
If Afghanistan actually becomes a wealthy country, there will be much more interest in it by China, Pakistan and Iran.
While the US has tried to get out of Afghanistan, likely it won’t now because it has potential for an expanding economy and economic development. I
