U.S. House’s antitrust report hints at break-up of Big Tech firms: lawmaker

Something must be done to address the gross violations of our first amendment freedoms. Political speech is the most protected speech under the first amendment (not the second, third, or fourth but the first). It is the foundation of our constitutional republic.

Freedom of speech is the foundation of a free society. Without it, a tyrant can wreak havoc unopposed, while his opponents are silenced. Inoffensive speech needs no protection. The First Amendment was developed precisely in order to protect speech that was offensive to some, in order to prevent those who had power from claiming they were offended by speech opposing them and silencing the powerless.

U.S. House’s antitrust report hints at break-up of Big Tech firms: lawmaker

By Diane Bartz

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. House of Representatives antitrust report on Big Tech firms contains a “thinly veiled call to break up” the companies, Republican Congressman Ken Buck said in a draft response seen by Reuters.

The House antitrust subcommittee is expected to publish its report this week on Amazon.com Inc, Apple Inc, Facebook Inc and Google owner Alphabet Inc.

A Buck representative confirmed to Reuters the authenticity of the draft response, which was first reported by Politico.

In the draft, Buck said he shared Democratic concerns about the power of Big Tech firms, with their penchant for “killer acquisitions” to eliminate rivals and self-preferencing in guiding customers to their other products.

However, he objected to a plan to require them to delineate a clear “single line of business”. Social media platform Facebook also owns Instagram and WhatsApp, search engine provider Google’s businesses include YouTube and Android, and e-commerce leader Amazon operates a massive cloud computing unit.

“This proposal is a thinly veiled call to break up Big Tech firms. We do not agree with the majority’s approach,” Buck wrote.

It is not yet known how many Republicans will support the report, which is being led by Democratic Chairman David Cicilline. Reports and recommendations with bipartisan support usually have a bigger impact.

“The report offers a chilling look into how Apple, Amazon, Google and Facebook have used their power to control how we see and understand the world,” Buck wrote.

He agreed with some of the report’s recommendations, such as making it easier for the Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission to stop mergers by lowering their burden of proof, and allowing consumers to take control of their data through data portability and interoperability between platforms.

“These potential changes need not be dramatic to be effective,” Buck wrote.

Buck also said he was displeased that the report failed to address conservative allegations that some platforms have tried to stifle conservative voices.

It’s a start. The Big Tech companies and Social Media Companies MUST lose their ability to form opinion through news distortion and history revisionism. They must not be allowed to ban Conservative speakers or take them out of context, misquote or repeat the same, quoted by others about them. It’s seems all attempts to bring the SM and MSM on board is falling on deaf ears so, Anti-Trust Action is the only solution-Break them up.

Basically, big tech have become the militant secularist, globalist socialist gods of the internet, with algorithms they program a de facto artificial intelligence with an evolving collective social climate change conscience based on “the science” “priests.”

If the “gods” don’t like conservative or Christian activity or a thoughts, they invoke their science supremacy doctrine and your content and speech is suspended or blocked your business model advertising exposure manipulated away with “lightning bolts” from the ether…

Social media platforms: take away their protections via 230 and declare them to be utilities. If they want the right to censor they would need to claim themselves to be publishers. Either way, they loose their protections under 230.

If Apple is broken up then do the same with Microsoft and Alphabet.

Can’t WAIT ! I want Facebook especially to feel the wrath of America for purposefully suppressing the voice of Conservatives. Profiles deleted. Posts banned. Biased fact checking. Break that nest of mind-thieves apart !

This needs to be a bi-partisan, consensus operation to break up their monopoly power and to end their censorship and news manipulation. It is a start. Shame on the Republicans who are on the sidelines and are babbling nonsense about non-interference with business. Business exists to serve the public commonweal, the commonweal is not owned by business. These companies are illegitimates and unethical entities that have highjacked capitalism and created government protected monopolies. Are many conservatives too slow to get this or too corrupted themselves?

Freedom of speech also refers to the press. We DON’T have freedom of speech either in, or through the press. The Right’s news and opinions are curtailed and suppressed, the news reporters only report from the left. Only the left’s speech is allowed. The ANTITRUST LAW should apply to the press as well.

The best clean-up Trump can put into practice as soon as he is re-elected — get rid of Google first and foremost — so many things I am not allowed to read or get through to.
