President Trump calls New York Times report that he avoid paying taxes ‘totally made up’

41

This latest hit piece against the POTUS from the propaganda press is truly despicable. Naturally the New York Times will not release any of the data or information about their sources, that they claim to have in their possession. The NY Times has said that it will not make Trump’s tax-return data public to protect its sources “who have taken enormous personal risks to help inform the public.” What a joke.

US tax law is torturous and meandrous.. There are myriad ins and outs – who would fault him for employing them? Everybody does. If the New York Times has a problem with tax offsets, depreciation, losses etc then they should support a flat tax for everyone.

How convenient to release this garbage two days before the debates. This is just like the hit piece from the Atlantic, which also quoted anonymous sources about Trump disparaging fallen soldiers. When will the MSM be held accountable for their perfidy, corruption, and malfeasance? Why are they allowed to defame people with impunity?

Trump calls New York Times report that he avoid paying taxes ‘totally made up’

‘Everything was wrong, they are so bad,’ Trump said

By Fox News, September 27, 2020

President Trump lambasted a New York Times report that said he paid no federal income taxes for 10 of the past 15 years, calling the story “fake news” and arguing that he paid large federal and state taxes.

“Its fake news, it’s totally made up,” Trump said Sunday during a press briefing less than an hour after the story broke in the newspaper. “Everything was wrong, they are so bad.”

According to the New York Times report, Trump, who has fiercely guarded his tax filings and is the only president in modern times not to make them public, paid $750 in taxes to the federal government the year he was elected and $750 again his first year in office.

The disclosure, which the Times said comes from tax return data extending over two decades, comes at a pivotal moment ahead of the first presidential debate Tuesday and a divisive election.

Trump, whose net worth is claimed to be in the billions, denied that he paid such a small amount in taxes.

“I’ve paid a lot and I’ve paid a lot state income taxes too,” he said.

Even before being elected to the White House in 2016, Trump was heavily criticized for not releasing his tax filing. He has claimed multiple times that he is under a routine audit by the Internal Revenue Service and will release his filings once the audit is over.

“I’m under audit,” Trump said Sunday. “They’re doing an assessment.”

A lawyer for the Trump Organization, Alan Garten, also denied to the New York Times that the president paid such a small amount of taxes – saying in a statement obtained by Fox News that Trump “has paid tens of millions of dollars in personal taxes to the federal government, including paying millions in personal taxes since announcing his candidacy in 2015.”

“The New York Times’ story is riddled with gross inaccuracies.  Over the past decade the President has paid tens of millions of dollars in personal taxes to the federal government,” Garten said. “While we tried to explain this to the Times, they refused to listen and rejected our repeated request that they show us any of the documentation they purport to be relying on to substantiate their claims.”

He added: “Obviously this is just part of the Times’ ongoing smear campaign in the run up to the election.”

The New York Times did not release the copies of Trump’s tax filings they had received, saying they were protecting sources.

Even if it was true
It would be irrelevant. People do not have to be billionaires to make good presidents. And MOST rich people have lost their fortune at least once. That all comes from the need to take some risk. Fat-cats don’t always stay fat, and lots of fat cats started out skinny, and finished up skinny too.

George Westinghouse and Nicola Tesla started out poor, and got rich by electrifying the USA. Edison invented the light bulb, but Westinghouse / Tesla invented the electrical grid system, by making AC power work. They both wound up poor, but that’s irrelevant, they changed the whole world.

…..Also, if you look at the extraordinary assets owned by me, which the Fake News hasn’t, I am extremely under leveraged – I have very little debt compared to the value of assets. Much of this information is already on file, but I have long said that I may release Financial Statements, from the time I announced I was going to run for President, showing all properties, assets and debts. It is a very IMPRESSIVE Statement, and also shows that I am the only President on record to give up my yearly $400,000 plus Presidential Salary!

Yes, I agree, the NYT has a terrible signal-to-noise ratio. Not much real valid signal, and a lot of useless noise. I call it fact pollution. But many voters believe falsehoods, so it’s important to correct those falsehoods wherever possible.

Probably a Lois Lerner operative in the IRS.

It doesn’t matter if he paid nothing in taxes. It was done according to the tax code. That’s what matters.

This is sound and fury signifying nothing.

In the article the Times completely obfuscates the way income taxes are strategically offset by depreciation, mortgage interest and the entire reason why real estate ownership is viewed as a business.

Anyone who has ever operated a business knows that offsetting income is one of the primary reasons to be self-employed. Additionally, the Times completely skips over the tens-of-millions in payroll taxes paid by the Trump organization and tens-of-millions in property and sales taxes paid by all of the various Trump properties.

In the commercial real estate market it is common sense to offset income tax liabilities with a host of valid annual expenses, long-term capital depreciation and mortgage interest payments. With over 500 individual business entities within the Trump organization the ability to offset income in one asset with expenses in another is simply good accounting.

Additionally, President Trump donates his $400,000 government salary back to the U.S. government. So to accuse President Trump of only paying $750 in income taxes totally ignores all of the other donations and tax payments he makes.

Don’t all businesses do that? I was never in real estate but always deducted depreciation and any interest payments. They are legitimate expenses.

And the $750 was additional not the “tax liability” for the year. The morons reported the “owed” amount not the tax liability amount.

There’s something else that’s fishy besides all that: To divert attention away from recent findings of Joe and Hunter Biden’s financial (and otherwise) ties to Russia.

Precisely. They’ll smear Trump for paying his taxes, screech the completely unsupported lie he’s a russian agent, but not bat an eye that Hunter got 3.5 million from a moscow oligarch. Dirtier than a bunch of $2 street pros.

Agreed. This is an election year and an old commiecrat stunt.

Remember during the 2012 election when Harry Reid stood on the floor of the Senate and claimed Romney had not paid any income tax over the previous ten years?

And then after the election admitted it was a lie?

Fount

This whole sham is so preposterous. Another Russia hoax. Do you think Donald Trump sits at his kitchen table and fills out his taxes? He has a team of accountants that handle his taxes, who do it by code – whatever that is. Then he signs what they hand him,

This is a hoax.

Over the last 3+, almost 4 years, I have seen more made up lies and outright garbage attacking the president that make me believe the president over the press. Usually these slanderous lies are eventually proven to be false yet the media always continues to pretend that it’s, whatever it is, is true. I wonder if they can be sued into revealing their “sources.’ Invariably anonymous sources.

Don’t throw gasoline. When I was, I believe eight, I made that mistake. Every major storm, especially following tornadoes, there was major branch, brush, and tree cleanup. I had seen how my father would start the fire(s). He’d take a coffee can of kerosene, start the fire, and then toss some on areas that weren’t burning.

We had a large gas above ground gasoline tank, as back in those days almost all tractors ran on gas, as opposed to diesel. So, being the enterprising kid I decided to help my father along. Instead of going to the smaller tank of kerosene, which wasn’t gravity fed, you had to pump, I filled a coffee can with gasoline.

No eyebrows, eyelashes, or hair was left on my head.

Moral of the story, don’t throw gas …. it’s supposed to be kerosene.

The real issue is his taxes are between his tax accountants/lawyers and the IRS. Nobody else has a RIGHT to know what he pays! This BS is exactly why morons believes that rich people don’t pay taxes….just because they don’t pay MORE at the end of the year doesn’t mean they didn’t pay during the year. The nyt is a libturd rag and anyone with a functioning brain cell shouldn’t even waste their time with those morons! I’ve had people try saying that they didn’t pay taxes either because they didn’t pay more at the end of the year or got some back. Just can’t fix STUPID libturds who have huge cases of TDS!

Hypocrisy! Just ran an by
their editorial board decrying corporate inversions on the grounds that
taking advantage of the tax code is somehow unpatriotic. The particular
case that got the ire of
was Johnson
Controls, the Milwaukee-based auto parts maker, selling itself to
Ireland-domiciled Tyco International which will save it at least $150
million annually in U.S. taxes. The
should be the last organization to criticize others for benefiting from the tax code.

Once again NYtimes, just like the Atlantic with PM Benjamin Netanyahu-Yellow Journalism. Anonymous sources, no sourced documentation shown to the public nor the target of your article; for all we know it could have come from the imagination of your writer’s mind. If you did obtain the Presidents tax return, or data, you’ve committed a Federal Crime an can’t hide behind the shield of Journalism. The Press can only go so far in breaking the Law. Besides if the Feds ask for your source the initial criminal in this case and you fail to provide his name that will be aiding and abetting, obstruction of justice. If you think you will shift the debate from the issues of the day to Trump you’re sadly mistaken. There’s Biden’s 100s of millions from the Ukraine and China and how it has influenced his policy statements. They better give him alot of that juice before the debate and the answers on teleprompter like they’ve been doing. Plus they need to keep him on track not let him go rogue. Can you imagine if Biden falls asleep during the debate or forgets where he is or the purpose of why he’s there!
