Yale epidemiologist says hydroxychloroquine is ‘the key to defeating COVID-19’
‘Tens of thousands of patients with COVID-19 are dying unnecessarily’ without the drug, he argues.
n Ivy League epidemiology professor is claiming that hydroxychloroquine — the drug that has been at the center of a politicized medical debate for the last several months — is “the key to defeating COVID-19,” and that medical officials should be widely prescribing it to save the lives of thousands of coronavirus patients.
Story continues below advertisementHarvey Risch, a professor of epidemiology at Yale as well as the director of that school’s Molecular Cancer Epidemiology Laboratory, argues in a Newsweek op-ed this week that “the data fully support” the wide use of hydroxychloroquine as an effective treatment of COVID-19.
“When this inexpensive oral medication is given very early in the course of illness, before the virus has had time to multiply beyond control, it has shown to be highly effective,” Risch argues in the column.
Hydroxychloroquine has been the subject of a bitter and protracted political argument for the past several months, after President Trump in mid-March said the drug was showing promising effects in treating COVID-19. Media outlets and commentators shortly thereafter began touting numerous stories of the drug’s alleged fatal dangers as well as its reported ineffectiveness in treating the disease.
Risch, at Newsweek, argues that multiple studies over the past several months have demonstrated that the drug is a safe and efficacious treatment method for COVID-19.
Among the successful treatment experiments, he writes, are “an additional 400 high-risk patients treated by Dr. Vladimir Zelenko, with zero deaths; four studies totaling almost 500 high-risk patients treated in nursing homes and clinics across the U.S., with no deaths; a controlled trial of more than 700 high-risk patients in Brazil, with significantly reduced risk of hospitalization and two deaths among 334 patients treated with hydroxychloroquine; and another study of 398 matched patients in France, also with significantly reduced hospitalization risk.”
Risch says the drug is most effective “when given very early in the course of illness, before the virus has had time to multiply beyond control.”
Though according to Risch the benefits of the drug are clear, he nevertheless concedes that the subject “has become highly politicized.”
“For many, it is viewed as a marker of political identity, on both sides of the political spectrum,” he said. “Nobody needs me to remind them that this is not how medicine should proceed.”
He also argues that “the drug has not been used properly in many studies,” and that delays in administering the drug have reduced its effectiveness.
“In the future,” Risch says in the column, “I believe this misbegotten episode regarding hydroxychloroquine will be studied by sociologists of medicine as a classic example of how extra-scientific factors overrode clear-cut medical evidence.”
“But for now,” he adds, “reality demands a clear, scientific eye on the evidence and where it points.”

Some DEM Governors still have it banned and pharmacists are forbidden to release it even if a doctor prescribes it anyway. It’s all because Trump, suggested it and it is a LOW COST existing drug that works on many people. The Trump haters would rather have you die, than overcome the Chinese virus. Plus there is more money in creating a new drug and a vaccine!
The hidden goal there is to make the vaccine mandatory. Imagine the money Fauci and Gates will make off this as Fauci promotes the vaccines they are involved with and who knows what is in them or if they work. We plan on NOT
taking any of them.

Excellent post. Besides, the far Left have never cared how many people died, how many lives are severely disrupted and made destitute by illness, and how many people lose their jobs/ ability to support themselves and their families. It is all about prosecuting a wicked agenda, as everyone here knows.
Sheep nations and goat nations are prophesied in the Bible. Remnant Christians want us to be a sheep nation. I wonder if certain US cities and states are going in to judgment and disaster. People in those areas should consider asking God if they should stay or leave.
FYI: no smear on goats. They are the dearest, most intelligent and curious creatures in the animal world; most are like pet dogs in their demeanor if they came from a decent home.

It is still a little early and information is sketchy however it appears that most of the vaccines under development are targeting antibodies. It is now thought that the antibodies tend to lose their effectiveness over a relatively short time frame. Some research is showing that a vaccine targeting the T-Cells would be more effective over the long haul. So does this mean Big Pharm gets to sell billions of doses of antibody vaccine, then to follow up with billions of doses of T-Cell vaccine because the first one was ineffective? I’ll pass thank you very much.

You’d think that sane people would want to try every drug possible wouldn’t you? This is the biggest worst pandemic in 100 years.
But one of those drugs has to be smeared and doubted because a certain leader likes it, and that leader is a figure of mindless, childish hate for sad pathetic people all over the world who have sand in their v@ginas. If you’re a doctor or any kind of medical professional, a grown human being and you don’t want to touch this stuff just because of Trump…. you’re acting like a child.

A few months back, the more Mr. Trump pushed and hyped the drug, the more “THEY” pushed back, to the point of pretty much ordering pharmacies NOT to fill prescriptions.
