Teddy Roosevelt Statue to be Removed from Museum of Natural History

33

In San Francisco, protestors tore down a statue of Ulysses S. Grant, our famed general (and later president) who helped defeat the Confederacy, (Newsweek). After Grant’s death, Fredrick Douglas said, “To him, more than to any other man, the Negro owes his enfranchisement” (RedState). Rich Lowry: “What idiots. I guess they’re going to come for Sherman next” (Twitter). Junipero Serra is down as well (Twitter). In New York, the Teddy Roosevelt statue in front of the Museum of Natural History is being removed (NYPost) In Minneapolis: Both Harper Lee books and Mark Twain books are banned from Minneapolis public schools—and no, the teachers were not consulted in the decision (Telegraph). Monmouth University is renaming Woodrow Wilson building (NYTimes). Washington Post has their eye on the Redskins (WPost) Noah Rothman: Conservatives saw all this coming, and they were relentlessly mocked for it. But they were right, and their foresight was based on the fullest understanding of the arguments that America’s historical revisionists tacitly endorsed but never scrutinized…. When Donald Trump wondered whether it would be “George Washington next week” and “Thomas Jefferson the week after,” he was treated to haughty and dismissive dispatches in the mainstream press explaining why these Founders were more than just their proximity to slavery (Commentary).

Teddy Roosevelt, Ulysses S. Grant, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Mark Twain, Harper Lee are being scrubbed for the public square and the national consciousness. This is not about BLM, this is the left’s war on America.

Teddy Roosevelt Statue to be Removed from Museum of Natural History

By: Kyle Morris, Breitbart, June 22, 2020

Story continues below advertisement

The bronze statue, which has stood outside of the museum entrance since 1940, depicts Roosevelt riding horseback accompanied by a Native American and an African American male. According to the announcement, the move stems from nationwide attacks on confederate statues and protests over the death of George Floyd.

“Over the last few weeks, our museum community has been profoundly moved by the ever-widening movement for racial justice that has emerged after the killing of George Floyd,” the museum’s president, Ellen V. Futter, told the New York Times. “We have watched as the attention of the world and the country has increasingly turned to statues as powerful and hurtful symbols of systemic racism.”

“Simply put,” Futter added, “the time has come to move it.”

The decision to remove the statue was proposed by museum officials and approved by the city of New York, which owns the property and the building.

New York City mayor Bill de Blasio also commented on the issue, saying now is the time to remove the “problematic statue.”

“The American Museum of Natural History has asked to remove the Theodore Roosevelt statue because it explicitly depicts Black and Indigenous people as subjugated and racially inferior,” de Blasio said in a statement. “The City supports the Museum’s request. It is the right decision and the right time to remove this problematic statue.”

As for now, museum officials have not stated where the statue will end up or if anything will be put in its place.

A great-grandson of Roosevelt’s, who shares his name and also serves as a trustee to the museum, released a statement approving of the statue’s removal.

“The world does not need statues, relics of another age, that reflect neither the values of the person they intend to honor nor the values of equality and justice,” said Theodore Roosevelt IV. “The composition of the Equestrian Statue does not reflect Theodore Roosevelt’s legacy. It is time to move the statue and move forward.”

In going along with the museum’s plan to remove the statue, the Roosevelt family received a hall renaming in return. According to Futter, the museum will name its Hall of Biodiversity for Roosevelt “in recognition of his conservation legacy.”

I have gone back and forth on Trump stopping this… I think he needs reconsider stopping this. We get it! We understand what the left is up to. The left is thrilled to destroy our history and emboldens them more. How many statues have to be removed or destroyed? The left will not ask Trump to intervene. They are on a roll. Someone was proposed Robin Williams, who committed suicide, replace a historic statue.

We need to return back to law and order and stop disrespecting our history.Whether you like it, agree with it or not, it is history! Trump has every right to implement t the Insurrection Act. We can’t just wring our hands and worry about how DEMS could abuse that in the future. It is right to assume they will abuse anything because they are lawless. We see that all the time.

As we keep ignoring or backing off, imo we are looking weak and using the left destruction as a campaign issue. is unwise. I don’t believe allowing this is wise when you can stop it as the law and order President. When is enough enough? We get it!

Robin Williams to replace a historic statue. That will probably happen. Or someone of equally diminished and questionable character. And who will try to stop it.

Oh my! All such ‘great’ choices. Not to worry. I’m sure they’ll all be given the honor they all deserve, as statues, in front of our nation’s libraries, court houses and museums. Putting a statue of Charlie Manson in front of a school would be a nice touch.

Thank you, Dan! You have a great beginning and a great summer!

Ten years mandatory jail sentence for anyone destroying a statue or monument with no parole.

Who makes the arrest? It’s clear that in the blue cities the Mayors and Governors will not enforce the laws. I am not sure if, unless it is federal crime, tearing down a statue is a federal offense.

Spray painting the memorials in Washington may be a Federal offense but if the cops aren’t there as they were not in D.C., who makes the arrest? There has to be videotape.

Maybe the feds have video.

Look at the number of whites, that are murdered by blacks. Then compare that to the TINY fraction, in comparison, of blacks murdered by whites. When do we start tearing down MLK statues and firebombing “Historically Black Colleges”?

“Every book has been rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street and building has been renamed, every date has been altered…History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.” — 1984, George Orwell
Historians have long pointed out that Yale (the University) is deeply implicated in the institution of slavery.
Elihu Yale was a slave trader. Yale university must change its name, and everyone with a degree from Yale should burn it.

Let’s not forget to get rid of the exhibits of African lions because they’ve been know to kill and eat black people. And that isn’t the kind of image we want.

Here is the statue. It doesn’t depict anyone as inferior. The Native America is wearing traditional attire (for some tribes), the black man is African rather than African-American. Both are depicted as strong and proud. The Native American could have been depicted on a horse, but that would have destroyed the symmetry of the statue and probably made it too big. Roosevelt’s horse may be a bit too grandiose for today’s standards, but there’s nothing wrong with it. But let’s tear it down and replace it with something like “Piss Christ,” because that’s art now.comment image
