Seattle Police Chief: Cops ‘Not Able to’ Respond to Rapes, Robberies Due to Autonomous Zone

Story continues below advertisementPolice have been unable to respond to “rapes, robberies, and all sorts of violent acts” occurring in Seattle’s East Precinct, which authorities abandoned on Monday, leaving the area in the hands of activists who set up their own police-free “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” (CHAZ), Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best said Thursday.
The police chief is now working on a plan to reopen the precinct, telling reporters calls for service “have more than tripled.”
“These are responses to emergency calls — rapes, robberies, and all sorts of violent acts that have been occurring in the area that we’re not able to get to,” she said.
Emergency response times in the area have tripled, she noted, going from just over five minutes to 18 minutes.
“If that is your mother, your sister, your cousin, your neighbor’s kid that is being raped, robbed assaulted (or) otherwise victimized, you’re not going to want to have to report that it took the police three times longer to get there to provide services to them,” Best said.
“It was never an option to have residents of the precinct, many of whom are members of our most marginalized communities by the way, waiting for an extra length of time for an officer to arrive to a violent crime in progress,” she stated.
The police chief also confirmed someone breached the building, which was abandoned on Monday:

Carmen, in a Thursday video address to East Precinct officers, emphasized it was not her decision to abandon the precinct. Rather, it was the city that “relinquished to severe public pressure,” resulting in protesters — including Antifa members and self-described anarchists — setting up a six-block perimeter, CHAZ, around the area and deeming it a police-free, “autonomous” zone.
“I asked you to stand on that line. Day in and day out. To be pelted with projectiles. To be screamed at. Threatened, and in some cases hurt. Then to have a change of course nearly two weeks in. It seems like an insult to you and our community,” Best said, adding “ultimately, the city had other plans for the building” and caved to public pressure:

It’s really funny (not haha funny but… you know…) that the Left hate cops but when they are affected, all of a sudden they demand that the cops do something. Oh, it’s just a peaceful “block party” and before that she called it “patriotic” according to the Seattle, DEM, Mayor Jenny Anne Durkan. Governor Inslee didn’t seem to be aware that there was even a problem. Some how this will be Trump’s fault! Voters vote these people in and will expect Trump to clean up THEIR mess and have federal money pay for it.

Yes, but what about the people who live there? And as usual, Democrats are poor at consequential thinking. If a resident in there gets a machine gun and wipes out a few hundred Antifa, whose fault is it? The 10th Amendment says: “…or to the people” which means that if the government won’t do it, then the citizenry can do it [or MUST do it].

I seem to recall the 2nd Amendment… not to mention something about protecting against threats that are both foreign and domestic. Too bad there is no sane person able to form a militia in that zone. The best solution is for the police to go on strike for about a month and let the BLM/Antifa thugs try to run their “autonomous zone” themselves. It will take less time than that for the people who whined to get rid of the cops to start howling to bring them back. Note that already the thugs have appointed a warlord to rule them, He and his pet bodyguards go around extorting money out of the residents of his “autonomous zone”, and soon they’ll be extorting food — since truckers all over the state have refused to drive into the zone where they feel they’ll have no protection. Antifa/BLM sympathizers may try to bring in food, but there’s no way that a six-block area can survive on this kind of charity. Seattle is no Paris Commune, which had the support of the surrounding countryside. Soon enough, the citizens will either cry for the police or the National Guard to come and save them, or the sterner-minded will form a militia for their own defense and chase out the goons themselves. Since the citizens, not being police, are not bound by police guidelines or regulations, that chasing-out will involve a lot more serious shooting than the thugs can maintain.
