A specific combination of existing drugs has shown it is capable of wiping out the #coronavirus in a study conducted in France. NY will start clinical drug trials on Tuesday for two newly approved drugs by the FDA including Chloroquine, which is used to treat malaria.
New York State will start trial testing antiviral medicines on Tuesday in an ongoing effort to stem the coronavirus pandemic statewide, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced on Sunday.

- 750,000 Chloroquine From the Federal Government.
Trials will start Tuesday.
President Trump is sending thousands of samples of the drugs hydrooxychloroquine, zithromax and chloroquine to New York for testing.
President Donald Trump drew attention Thursday to drugs often used to treat illnesses like malaria that could also help treat COVID-19 patients.
In January, researchers at the University of Utah identified hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine as effective methods of COVID-19 treatment after conducting a series of test tube studies, according to Dr. Kurt Hegmann, center director of Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health at the University of Utah.
Multiple studies and reports testing the efficacy of the drugs around the world have also shown positive results, Hegmann said during a Friday press conference with politicians, health professionals and business owners.
Two days ago, a study conducted and published in France showed a stark drop in virus replication among patients who were prescribed the drugs, in contrast with those who weren’t, Hegmann explained. While the study was not randomized, it’s exceptionally difficult to see results that stark caused by another factor, he added.
“We’re going to get this supply and the trial will start this Tuesday,” Cuomo said at his daily briefing on the pandemic in Albany. “[President Donald Trump] is optimistic about these drugs and we are all optimistic that it could work. I’ve spoken with a number of health officials and there is a good basis to believe that they could work.”
These drugs are especially exciting because they’ve already been around for 80 years now, said Senate President J. Stewart Adams. And side effects generally only display themselves if a patient has been taking the medication for years, Richards added. (KSL)

Coronavirus: NY Gov. Cuomo says state to start clinical drug trial, authorizes temporary hospitals, asks US to nationalize medical supply buying
New York state is running a clinical trial beginning Tuesday of a treatment regimen of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin, two drugs that doctors in Africa and elsewhere say they’ve seen good results in fighting the virus.
The new state measures Cuomo announced include:
- Army Corp of Engineers to construct four temporary hospitals in Stony Brook, Westchester, Westbury and the Javits Convention Center in Midtown Manhattan. The locations were chosen for various reasons including dormitory space for medical personnel
- FEMA to construct four federal hospitals of 250 beds each
- New York City to present a plan to reduce social interaction and density in parks and public spaces within 24 hours for the state to review
- Hospitals must create plans to increase capacity by at least 50 percent, with a goal of 100 percent increase
- All elective non-critical surgery will be canceled as of Wednesday
- New York State will begin implementing trials of two drugs to treat COVID-19, the anti-malaria drug chloroquine and the antibiotic azithromycin on Tuesday.
Cuomo said that New York State currently has 53,000 hospital beds available. Projections estimate that as many as 110,000 beds could be needed as coronavirus cases peak.
Besides the multifold state response, Cuomo called on the federal government to nationalize the production of medical supplies needed for the pandemic.
“The states just can’t deal with finding the medical supplies they need.” Hospitals need these materials now, Cuomo urged.
Cuomo also asked the FDA to approve serological testing for antibodies to assess what percent of the population may have already been exposed to COVID-19.
As of Sunday morning, the total number of cases in New York reached 15,000. Here is how the current state statistics break down:
- 53 percent of cases are 18 to 49 years old
- 50,000 new tests were administered
- 4,800 new cases were confirmed
- 374 deaths to date have been recorded in New York State
- 70 percent of deaths so far were 70 years or older and the majority had underlying health conditions
- 80 percent of deaths under 70 years old had an underlying condition
- 1,900 patients have been hospitalized. The 13 percent hospitalization rate is lower than the previous rate of 15 percent.
These new mandates come after previous measures such as all non-essential employees being asked to stay at home and new rules concerning social distancing and “Matilda’s Law” for senior citizens and other vulnerable people.
Cuomo repeated pleas for residents to socially distance.
“You would think nothing was going on. There is a density level that is not appropriate and it has to stop now.”
Cuomo reassured residents that food and medication supply chains are not at risk of collapse.
“All essential services will be maintained”

I wish the ROK would publish more about their results. We only have 3 wobbly studies to go on right now:
1. the Chinese study that could be phony
2. The French study, done by Muslims in Southern France, on 20 patients, where they excluded the sickest patients
3. The Australian study, that was just clinical observations on a few patients, not a controlled trial. Some patients DO get better on their own.

In the supposed “epicenter” of just a week ago, to date there have only been 104 deaths. They have drive-up testing (free) setup since mid February. Even with that, only 8897 confirmed cases.
When the numbers are that low, it’s hard to have much data to share.
Now, the Mexican Swine Flu … now THAT had data, with over 17,000 Americans killed by February 12, 2010.
When the numbers are as low as they are, with the Chinese virus, there just isn’t that much data to share.

Maybe Italy will share their information but I suspect they are too busy doing triage. Most of the deaths are people over 60 and those with compromised health to begin with. NY might be the best place to do that.

From data, any way you look at it, the Chinese virus does not appear to be nearly as deadly as the Mexican Swine Flu was. To date, fewer people infected and FAR fewer dying from it.

China DID try chloroquine phosphate on Covid-19, and they claimed it worked. But problems remain:
(1) if it worked, then why did so many die in China [might be 21 million fatalities]
(2) ALL Chinese people are effectively owned by their government, and all science is government controlled. Therefore, it is not independent science, and it cannot be trusted to be truthful.

I would guess initial indifference to people getting it.
China doesn’t care.
Also this started in November. The truth trickles out in strange ways… The university my youngest is going to now realize that. They have a large Chinese student population. Universities nad colleges love students on VISAs coming here because they pay full tuition and they offset the subsidized students and keep building up their endowments. Anyway, during Thanksgiving her univeristy is totally shut down. Students have to make arrangements to live somewhere else.
Some flew back to China (~ 12 hour flight) and a few came back with the “flu”. Being younger they fought it off. They just didn’t know what it was at the time. Then they had off from 12/13/19 to 1/5/20. More came back from China with the “flu” and it spread more. Now they know what it is. Now they know what it is and are shut down like other universities and colleges. Some of the infected are too ill to travel so other arrangements have been made for them.

I think DEMS know Biden is a loser. If they have to go to a brokered convention, Cuomo might be a better candidate for them. Cuomo has allot of incentive to make this work.
I suspect Dr. Fauci is not pleased about this. With such promise shown with these existing drugs, it makes him look bad… Trump wants this virus out of the way to get the economy going again. He’s moving past the bureaucracy.

Hydrochloroquine has been used all over the world, probably for 40 or 50 years.
It’s a well known drug and hundreds of thousands if not millions of people have been on it without a problem, although many were younger in good health except for malaria or some forms of arthritis.

We do have to remember that Chloroquine might not work out in the long run. The problem is that we are fighting two types of germs: the Covid-19 virus, that starts th disease, and the super-infection of bacteria that wreck the lungs and shut down the body. The hydroxychloroquine fights the Covid-19 virus, and the azithromycin fights the pneumonia bacteria. Dr. Fauci seems surprised that no one has thought of this before, and he has a point. PATIENTS ARE ALWAYS SCREENED FIRST! Those who have upper respiratory medical problems, were probably not given these 2 drugs, so they were left out of the stats.
So, if I said, 20 PEOPLE CAME INTO THE E.R. AND WE SCREENED THEM ALL FOR RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS AND 15 HAD NO UPPER RESPIRATORY OR HEART PROBLEMS , SO WE GAVE THEM THE 2 DRUGS AND IT WORKED! How would you say that to the MSM? Here is how I would say it: “Today we had 15 patients in E.R. who came to us with Covid-19 symptoms and we gave them this 2-drug concoction. All 15 patients are responding positively to the treatment.” THEY WOULD LEAVE OUT THE OTHER FIVE.

Also he is Only treating those within the high risk category. imunocompromised, respiratory distress, above a certain age. You need to not scream. He’s saying these drugs have worked well and prevented hospitalizations of otherwise critical cases. This is very useful information. In a practice with as many cases as his, which far exceed 350 cases he has seen great success in preempting crisis when he has treated them just a step before that degree of severity. The current advice by most doctors is stay home and if you are in dire straights then go to the hospital so you can be put on a ventilator. That is what is advised widely. I know because I work in a health facility and I have been in touch with other health facilities.

If I hear Dr. Fauci loves to refer to a possible solution to this Chinese virus as “anecdotal” I may vomit. Anecdotal evidence is evidence collected in a casual or informal manner and relying heavily or entirely on personal testimony. No, these were done by SCIENTISTS. I understand caution but he is dismissing it. Soon he won’t be able to. Others have been having success with it.

This is good news–Where was Dr. Fauci recommending this? All he kept saying was that this treatment was “anecdotal” and they have to do NIH randomized clinical trials. If people are dying, you have to try whatever may work. My only concern will this mean that all this medicine going to NY for “trials” mean there will be patient controls, who are very ill and won’t get the drugs? I think it’s unethical to withhold the drug from any hospitalized patient in distress. It may make more sense to do a ‘trial’ on asymptomatic patients who test positive for the virus to compare onset of symptoms if any and the eradication of the virus with further testing,
I think all medical and non-medical hospital personnel and any first responders should get tested, even if asymptomatic, to make sure they aren’t an asymptomatic carriers among vulnerable patients.

Not everyone can take it and that is what people do not understand. For instance, if you have severe allergies, it will restrict you further. If you have A-Fib, you will have more heart palpitations. If you have any kind of upper respiratory or heart problems, you may not be able to take it because it will make your problems WORSE. THIS INFORMATION NEEDS TO BE SAID OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

As long as we do not know how many people are COVID19-infected/contaminated, who do neither feel nor show any symptoms, neither statistics nor prognoses can really be sufficiently precise.
To get an approximately reliable result, the authorities must test a statistically relevant number of symptoms-free people of all ages and all social backgrounds, taking into account their possible previous illnesses.
May be they now start such a program nationwide and worldwide – I hope so.
If the number of symptom-free COVID19-infected people is significantly lower or higher it would give us the answer whether the COVID19 is less or more dangerous than any influenza.
And that should be the crucial base for all governmental decisions and actions.
In the common cases of the severe annual waves of influenza – when worldwide hundred millions of citizens got severely sick and hundred thousands died – did the governments ever dare to impose such drastic and life changing orders on us, beside that the tax paying population is confronted with gigantic losses in economy!?

Regarding the use of Chloroquine and Azithromycin and the French “Study”… “Let’s hope it works” is unfortunately the only base for that project…

If I was in charge…I would use Plaquenil and Zithromax treatment (assuming no contraindications) prioritized for:
1. All sick patients positive for COVID19.
2. All at risk patients (over 55y/o) positive for COVID19 and all health care/first responders regardless of age who are positive and, all health care, first responders, nursing home personnel and maintenance/service workers in all health/nursing facilities should be tested.
3. All people POSITIVE for COVID19, even if asymptomatic,…so they don’t get symptomatic and so that they hopefully convert to negative testing.
It’s unethical to do a “clinical drug trial” where sick patients, struggling to breathe, are put in a “no treatment” control group.
