The speech came in the thick of the president’s 2020 reelection campaign, and one day before he is expected to be acquitted by the Senate on impeachment charges brought by the House of Representatives in the same room in which he delivered the State of the Union.
The ceremonial address resembled a campaign speech, with the president boasting of his record on jobs, pledging to protect Social Security and warning against Democratic policy proposals. Republicans led a chant of “four more years” at the start.
Among those in attendance was Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido, whom the Trump administration has supported in his efforts to topple President Nicolas Maduro, the country’s socialist leader.
Notably absent from the speech was a slate of high-profile Democrats, including the progressive freshmen Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts.
Here are the night’s top moments.
Trump doesn’t shake Pelosi’s hand, she rips up his speech
The night began and ended with dramatic acts of partisanship.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sought to shake the president’s hand after Trump handed her what appeared to be a copy of his remarks. But Trump did not shake her hand.
At the end of the speech, Pelosi ripped up the papers.
Pelosi and Trump have tangled over politics and matters of temperament, with tensions rising particularly high during the impeachment process. But the Pelosi-Trump feud began much earlier.
In May, even as she resisted calls for impeachment, Pelosi suggested that Trump’s staff should stage “an intervention.”
Limbaugh awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom
The president awarded the conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh America’s highest civilian honor, with the first lady affixing the honor herself.
Limbaugh, a close ally of the president, announced on his radio program on Monday that he has advanced lung cancer.
“This is not good news,” Trump said, referring to the diagnosis. “But what is good news is that he is the greatest fighter and winner that you will ever meet. Rush Limbaugh: Thank you for your decades of tireless devotion to our country.”
Trump has also awarded Presidential Medals of Freedom to former Sen. Orrin Hatch, the late Justice Antonin Scalia, long-dead music legend Elvis Presley and star golfer Tiger Woods.

“Maduro is an illegitimate ruler, a tyrant who brutalizes his people. But Maduro’s grip of tyranny will be smashed and broken,” Trump said. “Here this evening is a man who carries with him the hopes, dreams and aspirations of all Venezuelans. Joining us in the gallery is the true and legitimate President of Venezuela, Juan Guaido.”
Bloomberg News reported in December that the president was beginning to lose confidence in Guaido’s ability to oust Maduro.
The White House has been upping its pressure campaign on Maduro in recent weeks. The administration last month announced new sanctions on more than a dozen aircraft operated by the country’s state-owned oil companythat transport senior members of the Maduro regime.
Trump attacks Democratic health-care proposals as ‘socialism’
Trump is hyper-aware that he could soon be facing a Democrat who supports overhauling the nation’s health care system. On Tuesday, he saved some of his harshest criticism for Democratic health-care reforms.“There are those who want to take away your health care, take away your doctor, and abolish private insurance entirely,” Trump said. “One hundred thirty-two lawmakers in this room have endorsed legislation to impose a socialist takeover of our health-care system, wiping out the private health insurance plans of 180 million Americans.”
“To those watching at home tonight, I want you to know: We will never let socialism destroy American healthcare,” he added.
Trump also warned that Democrats wanted to “provide unlimited free health care to illegal aliens.”
Some of the top 2020 candidates, including former Vice President Joe Biden and Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, have said they believe undocumented immigrants should be covered by a government-run health plan, according to a Washington Post survey.

Hillary, had she G-d forbid “won,” would have awarded one of the Medals of Freedom to the illegal alien who killed that victim. Certainly Obama did that equivalent. Lots of leftist hacks in that list of 123 medals handed out like candy under him.

I don’t think we’d still be here if HRC had won. Our country would have had more debt than when Obama left, there would have been no jobs coming back, there would have been a stock market decline, more welfare, more illegal invaders and fake “refugees”, more ObamaCrap, more lawlessness, etc. That was the plan for all of us who weren’t wanting to be their slaves because the US would have been as bad as Venezuela, if not worse.
We prayed that DJT would win because we knew that was our only hope to survive.
The UN Agenda 2020 would have remained with that as the target date for all of those 17 goals to have taken effect. There’d have been no need to extend the goal date to 2030 because there would have been nobody to have stopped the globalist agenda of worldwide collapse of all sovereign nations.
Goal #12 of UN Agenda 2030 sets the sustainable population at 500 million people. There are now abt. 7.7 BILLION people and by 2030, it would be at least 8 billion.
The Paris Accord claims to be about global weather change. Weather has always changed. God is in control of the weather. When that category 5 hurricane (Matthew, I think) was about to hit NC and SC, it sat in the ocean and God sheered off the top part of it to reduce it to a cat. 3. Then He further reduced the winds to a 1 or 2. I know that so many had to have been praying as I was. We’d evacuated to Orlando and I watched it for the week we were there.
Goal #13 takes $100 billion yearly from developed countries to send to undeveloped countries. Why is that if they have little if any carbon footprints? Why move those people from the undeveloped countries to the developed one if the UN is sending all of that money there? Didn’t Pelosi suggest that walls needed to be built around those countries? Why, since she’s said walls do no good while having walls around her estates?
It would be a transferal of people and money, and the $100 billion would be worth so much more in the currencies of 3rd world countries.

Thank you, Pamela, for posting this great SOTU in full! I listened on the radio (on NPR, of all left-wing outlets!!); but when I opened your daily report, I was thrilled to see that you had it ready to replay, so I watched again to catch all the great visuals – especially the well-deserved tribute to Rush Limbaugh! All in all, it was just a GREAT way to spend an evening at home and reflect on how terrific and wonderful our amazing POTUS actually is! MAGA!! And keep up the absolutely WONDERFUL work, Miss Pamela!

WHY RUSH LIMBAUGH IS HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT
*Rush Limbaugh was the one that demonized the word “liberal”. Yep, it was him.
If you’re a historian or pop-culture researcher, that’s the way it happened.
*His biggest accomplishment was leading the Republican Revolution of 1994.

Fox News did not exist at that time; so Mr. Limbaugh was the Fox News of his day.

The Presidential medal of Freedom is not hype or the President just being kind to a Republican or a friend.

When you win the the Nobel Prize and you don’t even know what it’s for.; yeah, he’s definitely the most overrated.

Pelosi demonstrated the childish mendacity of the Commievrat Party as well as their irrelevance to the vast majority of Americans. Ripping up the speech in front of 50 million viewers was a throwing of the gauntlet. The Election of 2020 will take no prisoners. The Civil War will be in full swing by this time next year. The Commiecrats will NOT accept the victory of Trump and his supporters peacefully. They will be organized to steal the election or a the very least create such chaos like we just saw in Iowa that the election will be thrown into “doubt” by their DorFart Media and their legions of swamp creatures that populate every corner of the federal government.

I do not think I have ever heard such a WONDERFUL, POSITIVE speech in all my lifetime, except for the “tear down this wall” from Ronald Reagan’s historical speech.
And, to think that the majority of Dems refused to stand and at least be respectful to our President and all the positive things he was saying about THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. IT IS WILLFULLY DEMONIC BEHAVIOR FROM THE DEMOCRATS.
DEMOCRATS HATE AMERICA(NS) AND OUR CONSTITUTION.

I don’t recall ever hearing, “Four more years!” chanted to a president at the State of the Union. President Trump knows how to treat people so that they feel good. He’s the Feel Good President. You can’t lose with that. I won’t tell you how I felt during President Clinton’s 8 years.
