Tulsi Gabbard won’t seek re-election to Congress in 2020

Democratic presidential hopeful Tulsi Gabbard announced Friday that she will not seek re-election to Congress — declaring that she remains “fully committed to my offer to serve” in the White House.
“I’m so grateful to the people of Hawaiʻi for allowing me to serve you in Congress for the last 7 years. Throughout my life, I’ve always made my decisions based on where I felt I could do the most good,” Gabbard wrote in a series of tweets that included a video message and a link to a lengthy statement.
“In light of the challenges we face, I believe I can … best serve the people of Hawaiʻi & our country as President and Commander-in-Chief,” she added.
Gabbard, 38, an Iraq war vet and a major in the US Army National Guard, was facing a primary bid from Hawaii state Sen. Kai Kahele, who thanked the congresswoman for her service, while saying her presidential bid had left her district “without a voice in Washington,” according to The Hill.
“Since announcing her Presidential candidacy in January 2019, Congresswoman Gabbard has worked hard visiting towns and cities across the United States,” Kahele said in a statement shortly after Gabbard’s announcement.
“This dedication, while worthy of admiration, meant that her congressional district was often left without a voice in Washington, D.C. I wholly respect and appreciate the Congresswoman’s decision not to seek re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives as she pursues the Presidency. I thank her for her service, and I wish her and her family the best going forward.”
Gabbard has served seven years in the House and is among five women seeking the Democratic nomination to face President Trump in 2020, along with 13 other hopefuls.
While lagging behind in the crowded field, Gabbard has gotten renewed attention lately after a heated argument with Hillary Clinton, whom she attacked Tuesday in a campaign video.
“Hillary, your foreign policy was a disaster for our country and the world,” Gabbard said in the video targeting the former secretary of state and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee.
Clinton said in a recent interview that she believes Republicans have “got their eye on somebody who’s currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate.”
The former first lady did not name Gabbard directly.

4 years agoTulsi is easy on the eyes, but she is no fan of correct policies. She is as described in an editorial, an honorable opponent. The editorial described her as the cheerleader who wil say hi to you in the hall, but she still won’t go with you to the prom — whatever our fantasies.
4 years agoIf she actually mounts a campaign, and gets on the ballot, she will take some votes from the Demonrat. But she will take some votes from Trump, as well. It will be interesting to watch this unfold.
In any case, she’s much more radical and a virtual anarchist in the Hindu tradition than she has let on in the national spotlight. 4 years agoThis may seem farfetched but after Trump gets reelected, he might be able to find a high level use for Tulsi. After all, she talks more like Trump than a commiecrat. Possibly something at DOD, given her military background?
4 years agoReply to Drew the InfidelApparently, she isn’t trustworthy. She is running for an Office (Presidency) that she is NOT constitutionally eligible for. She, like Obama, McCain,Cruz,Rubio,Jindal,Swarzenegger and Harris are NOT Article II “Natural Born Citizen[s]”.

4 years agoReply to JHIt disturbs me that people consider her to be presidential material. Almost all of her policies are as crazy as the rest of the lot of democom losers. The only thing good I can say about her is she is right about the foreign wars. Her policies would break the country just as surely as the rest of the lunatic candidates.

4 years agoAre some Americans so NAIVE that they are going to vote for another CONSTITUTIONALLY BARRED Candidate for President? Are they SO NAIVE? I think that they are naïve. The same people who voted for Obama AND Mccain (Neither were Natural Born Citizens of the U.S.). That was eleven years ago. Haven’t people learned YET? In 2016, Cruz, Rubio and Jindal (also NOT NBCs of the U.S.) attempted it. Cruz actually bragged about it saying “If Obama can do it so can I”? Meaning that Cruz, knowing that he wasn’t eligible to be President under Article II, USConst, ran anyway. Now we have Harris and Gabbard. Neither are Natural Born Citizens of the U.S. What IS an NBC? The Supreme Court of the U.S. established what a “Natural Born Citizen” is (205) years ago in “the Venus” and they reaffirmed the definition in several later cases. See: “Minor v Happersett, (1874), USSCt., and other cases. The most recent case is Laity v. NY,Cruz,Rubi and Jindal, USSCt. (Cert.Denied) (2018).
