WATCH: Islam, The Hoover Institution, and The Treason of the Intellectuals

94

Ayaan Hirsi Ali, and H.R. McMaster participated in a Hoover Institution panel discussion live-streamed June 4, 2019, whose ostensible purpose was to characterize, “the identities of freedom’s adversaries, their goals and strategies, and what can be done to defeat these threats across government, the private sector, academia, and civil society.”

The just over 8-minute embedded video clip, and accompanying transcript below it, capture critical exchanges during the question and answer period.  Watch/read how two audience queries, one on Islam, and the other on designating the traditionalist Islamic Muslim Brotherhood as a jihad terror organization, are “handled” by moderator Niall Ferguson, his wife Ayaan, and McMaster. Particularly alarming was the treatment afforded a very sympathetic Afghan Muslim woman exile whose poignant, and accurate observations about Islam are dismissed with a toxic brew of derisive laughter, and crude apologetics. These interactions are a sad testament to what passes for “informed, courageous center-right policymaking center discourse” on the liberty-crushing totalitarianism of Islam.

The expatriate Afghan Muslim woman questioner, was reverential of Ayaan Hirsi Ali, but did not abide being “silenced” by Stanford Professors when telling the truth about Islam’s violent imperialism. It was shocking that Ayaan tacitly agreed with such silencing, telling her interlocutor—and by extension, all of us— to “stop talking about Islam.” Exceeding this moral turpitude, H.R. McMaster opposed designating the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization, in response to another query, for “mere” advocacy of Sharia totalitarianism, without overt calls to violence. McMaster justified such a policy—acceptance of Sharia—because of what he deemed the lack of any “solution to the problem of Islamist groups that want to restrict human freedom.” Worse still, McMaster claimed more broadly—and counterfactually—“a way to think about this is to really make sure we understand that [jihad] terrorists are a perverted interpretation of Islam to justify their criminal acts.”  He concluded by insisting, “What this [global jihad] is is a fight between all civilized people of all religions against those who have perverted Islam.”

Story continues below advertisement

In brief, witness The Hoover Institute’s contemporary trahsion des clercs on Islam, courtesy of Ayaan Hirsi Ali, H.R. McMaster, and Niall Ferguson.

[Note: “FSI” referred to by the Afghan interlocutor, questioner #1, would appear to be The “Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies”]

PARTIAL TRANSCRIPT:

Audience questioner 1, a woman: “…I have lived 35 years in fear of Islam and political correctness and all of these things because I experienced the revival of Islam and what Islam can do, and is doing with these societiesI have tried to really talk about Islam but I am coming to a crashing point right now—I think that I am hitting my head to the wall because I feel that I am betrayed by the society of intellectuals that were supposed to support me. My new beautiful country of [the U.S.] that should support me, but I feel that everywhere that I go [there] is this political correctness and many other things. [It] is very easy—just come to FSI [Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies]—I can show you what is happening. Right now I am—my question is that I speak up against Islam and I am thinking that Islam is an imperialistic, violent, pedophile ideology—we should tell the truth not going with the lie of ‘peaceful religion,’ and so on. But I am crushed because people say that don’t say they [Muslims, practicing Islam] say they kill—Niall Ferguson interrupts: ‘We need a question’—[audience questioner 1 continues]—My question is that at the same time I get silenced down by the Professors at the FSI and so on, and I am crashing and I want to ask you, honestly, give me advice, what should I do” Should I stop going there [FSI] and stop…?”

On stage panel laughter.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali, still laughing, initially: “I will be very short and say maybe at this stage it is better to stop talking about Islam and start talking about freedom… Again, we are talking here today about how we can use online and cyber and all that…And it has now become technologically possible to connect a lot of people and see the ideas of Afghani women—women from Afghanistan and I know a number of them attracted to the ideas of freedom and equality [Note: 99% of Afghans wasn’t strict application of the liberty-crushing Sharia in Afghanistan], and raising their children, especially their sons, to be different and embrace these ideas. And I think that’s where to go. Let’s stop talking—or let’s talk less about what it is that has driven us out of the ideology of radical Islam [Note: the Afghan Muslim woman questioner was explicit in discussing ‘Islam,’ not ‘radical Islam’] and talk about what has driven us to the principles of freedom.”

Audience questioner 2, a man: “…Why have we failed to declare [the] Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization even though [the] Saudis did.?”

Niall Ferguson: “H.R., is the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist, organization? Should we identify it as such?”

H.R. McMaster: “OK. I’ll go back to Ayaan’s point that sometimes we try too hard to disconnect the dots with these groups because these groups are overlapping and mutually reinforcing. But I think also we have to be cognizant of the fact that not all of these organizations are the same, all these groups are the same, especially within the Muslim Brotherhood, which has different chapters that have different philosophies. Some of them are actually active and useful participants in political processes. [Note: McMaster blithely ignores serious scholar Emmanuel Sivan’s timeless warning from 1995: ‘Westerners debating the question of Islam and democracy would do well to listen to these voices, representing as they do the hegemonic discourse in the Islamist movement. When Islamists talk to each other rather than for external consumption, the talk is clearly and unambiguously anti-democratic. And so would be their behavior should they seize power.’]  If you for example were to make a blanket designation against all Muslim Brotherhood organizations and encourage other countries to do that, you just have to recognize that what you are going to do is drive those organizations underground in a way that set conditions for post-Mubarak Egypt. So I think there have [sic] to be a distinction made between those who advocate for violence against innocents and those who advocate to be able to determine with Sharia law the nature of the government at the exclusion of other parties. So I think that’s the way to think about it. And so there’s not going to be a solution to the problem of Islamist groups that want to restrict human freedom, but I don’t think a blank designation of the Muslim Brotherhood does it for you.”

Niall Ferguson: “Ayaan?”

Ayaan Hirsi Ali: “I just want to add one—yeah—so I agree with H.R.—everything he said is absolutely true, but I think we could go one step further and designate them an adversary. Just like we are designating, just like we are confronting China, what China is doing. I think it doesn’t hurt to say ‘hey Muslim Brotherhood, with all your branches and chapters, we know what you’re up to, and here’s the answer.’ And that is, it’s not exactly a terrorist organization, but having them come to the White House, and having them come to our institutions of education, institutions of information, I think in that sense, that’s a mistake.”

H.R. McMaster: Quickly. If I could just make a point that maybe refers to the [two] questions. I think a way to think about this is to really make sure that we understand terrorists are using a perverted interpretation of Islam to justify their criminal acts. And today is Eid al-Fitr [Note: the end of the Muslim celebration of Ramadan, ironically, a month associated by traditional, mainstream Islam with jihad war campaigns; seeEgyptian Clerics, Articles: Ramadan Is The Month Of Jihad And Victories.”], [so] we outght to say ‘Eid Mubarak’ to everybody. Who are the greatest victims of these terrorist organizations? Other Muslims. So what we have to do is not play into the terrorists hands who try to [advance] the conspiracy theory that it’s really the Zionist-Crusader conspiracy against them. “What this [global jihad] is, is a fight between all civilized people of all religions against those who have perverted Islam.”

Niall Ferguson: “Well said.”

That dictatorships hate “intellectuals” is a lie. They are the ones who make all this madness a reality. The only intellectuals they hate, are those who work towards their declared “enemy”. Of course, they must pretend to the people that they themselves come from the people, not from “intellectualism”!

Ayaan HIrsi Aii may have walked away from Islam, but in its place she replaced her religious affiliation to atheism, choosing rejection in the existence of any deity whatsoever. In effect, she has aligned herself with the same people who are Leftists, who sympathize with Islam against their greatest enemy, which is Biblical Christianity, and who seek the destruction of America.

Rand is no solution. How many saw Jesus after his resurrection? 500.

http://factsandfaith.com/the-witnesses-who-and-how-many-people-saw-jesus-alive-after-his-crucifixion/

How many of the Apostles recanted what they had seen or said? ZERO. Chuck Colson, who founded Prison Fellowship pointed out that it was a very short time after the Watergate Break in that it came out.
So why did those living at the time not recant if it was not true?

Christianity has not been tried and found wanting, it has not been wanted by those who do not embrace it. The Left today is much like Islam. There has been no original thought since 900AD

Sometimes war is needed just to sort out all the BS. I think that’s what we are facing today, full scale, all-out war against islam worldwide, just to clear the air and settle the score. To make the world safe for a relative level of civilization and humanity.

I have a feeling that’s where we’re headed. Muslims will get the upper hand, maybe Islamify Sweden and the UK and then the real fight for survival will begin as they start slaughtering non-Muslims there and people beg for our help, much like during WW2.

Who knows maybe Muslims will surprise us again with a large scale terrorist attack. Maybe North Korea, Iran or Pakistan hands off nukes to ISIS and they bomb a few cities.

To quote Newt Gingrich on the subject of Islam, “we’re sleepwalking into disaster.” I believe he’s exactly right. Trump’s a good man but I don’t think he really has a handle on this subject and he’s not taking the threat seriously enough.

Also what if the Dems win the next election? What if there is nobody as strong to replace Trump after his second term? It seems we’re headed for very dark times in 10-20 years if we don’t deal with the problem of Islam soon.

How much did it actually take for Hitler to take most of Europe? It seems to me, it didn’t take much. Islam is much more patient than Hitler. Hitler didn’t have Mohammad’s example of how to subjugate a nation that is stronger than it—which is immigrate into the nation declaring your persecuted status, build trust while you grow in strength, then when the right time comes then pull out the sword. Most of the EU is passed the brink. Muslims are on track to become the majority and the current majority seems to accept that eventuality. It seems their full conversion to Islam is only a matter of time. And when they do, Islam will have nukes that they can use against us. But they may not have to because we, as well as Canada, aren’t far behind though we did get a reprieve in Trump. But even though we have a reprieve with Trump, there are still many “leaders” trying to appease Islam and I don’t doubt some of them are influencing Trump. They ignore the seditious subversive political element of Islam and pretend it is “the religion of peace”. They don’t realize once Islam is dominant, sharia will be implemented and that will not go well for the non-Muslims.

Glad Trump threw McMaster out of the WH, that man is brainwashed and toxic to the fight against Islam. Unfortunately he is not alone, millions of people think of Islam in the same way.

So long as people don’t see Islam as a danger then this war will go on for centuries and by then there will be 10 billion Muslims ready to wage jihad against the world. We need to figure this out very soon and not hand it down to younger generations to deal with.

I don’t understand why people choose to continue to protect Islam while it slaughters innocents around the world, burning villages, slaughtering hundreds, suicide-bombing etc. Nobody is saying we need to kill all Muslims.

In fact those of us who call for the banning of Islam actually offer the best solution for Muslims because it can be done without killing a single person in theory. However without question all the terrorist groups will need to be destroyed first.

This video just demonstrates we have a long way to go still. That Afghani woman made excellent points but she really talked for too long so I can understand that they wanted to shut her down. Still she was right and deserved a better answer.

I think Ayaan has basically thrown in the towel and doesn’t care to stick her neck out in fighting for Islam as not too many others are doing it either.

The West will never fully confront the Islamic threat until the enemy detonates a nuclear device on Western soil. It could happen in Europe but the US is still the ultimate target for Islamic terrorists. Everyone assumes our southern border is the most likely entry point but as we learned from 9/11, the enemy is cunning and unpredictable. Our northern border is much larger than the southern border, and except for a handful of urban centers, is largely unprotected. The real danger is Canada, which under the ultra-leftist Trudeau, is hell-bent on inviting in lots of poorly vetted Muslims. 3.2% of Canada is already Muslim and close to 8% of Toronto’s population is Muslim. It’s time to connect the dots.

Wise observation and all of our ports are vulnerable. All They have to do is to float a cargo ship or tanker with a nuke hidden within and detoate and it and a major urban center is destroyed. I did understand what he intended but didn’t express it sufficiently clearly. No, the death penalty doesn’t deter crime or entirely deter murder, but we will never know to what extent it deters murder. Humans fear death and if they think that their punishment could be death, most will be deterred. Regardless, if someone has unjustly taken the life of another human they deserve to die.

I’m with you. When the “experts” tell you, “we know what the wolf looks like” and they fail to identify it, blast them for their failure, shame them even, because they will lead people to their deaths. What the heck happened to Ayaan – stop talking about Islam????????????

They seemed like the 10 blind wise men trying to describe an elephant from touching just one part and not able to see the bigger picture – useless, misleading, inaccurate and in this case, deadly. Shame on them.

Well said. When H.R. McMaster was NSA to Trump and spoke the same nonsense, in a letter I informed him that about Islam he is clueless and suggested he read the Qur’an and study Islam instead of talking rubbish. Naturally I did not receive a response. It’s now evident that numbers of U.S. military personennel including generals are clueless.

What’s with Ayaan Hirsi Ali ?? Didn’t she used to speak out against the horrors of pisslam, along with Pamela, Robert Spencer and others ??

Well, it really isn’t that surprising that Ayaan Hirsi Ali would be saying that we should stop talking about Islam as she has previously, repeatedly, and proudly stated that she is a liberal. Still, it makes me wonder what happened to her as she has, up until now, been very much FOR talking about and condemning Islam.

I won’t labour over this very long. Ayaan has shown her new hand and she is off my radar as a heroin. Christianity encourages individuals not to have faith in other human beings and here we have an example of why this is so. Islam is a disgusting ideology that promotes hatred, bigotry, intolerance, rape, murder, sex slaves, their men sodomizing goats and sheep, and young boys – those “scattered pearls” of Mohammad the non-prophet – beating wives and treating females as third-class citizens. Islam, in effect, is one big lie, has no redeeming features, is a Satanic belief and should be equated with stinking excrement.

They laughed at this woman’s concerns — because they’re supercilious, craven, immoral, degenerate cowards. Yet for all their false posturing about f’ing islum and muslums I don’t notice this group of academic jackals moving to any muslum state.

“Perverted interpretation” is deliared in this old post: https://islamexposed.blogspot.com/2017/03/mcmaster-exemplar-of-ignorance-or.html

Let us turn from the distraction of terrorism and focus on the real problem: JIHAD! Without Jihad there would be neither terrorists nor terrorism.

Yet more sorry ass, impossibly stupid and naive ‘intellectuals’ to pollute the waters! Doesn’t really sound like Hirsi. She should know better. Hopefully it was just one of those random discussions that ran off the tracks. Sounded more like Taqiya.

Here he is again, clueless H.R. McMaster with his disgusting nonsense about Islam and radical Muslims “perverting Islam”, instead of serious Muslims simply behaving like true Muslims and thus obeying directives of the Qur’an to conduct violence against non-Muslims. Whatever happened to Qur’an chapter 47 vs 4? And some in the audience actually applauded this erroneous nonsense! I also cannot get over some of the drivel spoken by Ayaan Hirsi Ali who I long admired, and even Niall Ferguson who, apparently, bought into this rubbish about radical Muslims “perverting Islam”.
Read the Qur’an you raving bloody imbeciles and see for yourselves the violence, hatred, intolerance and bigotry it preaches and promotes – particularly against Jews and Christians. Regarding the greatest victims of Islam being Muslims, what utter nonsense, again! These bright spark should ask this of Christians and Yazidis whose family members had eyes gouged out before being either cut in two, decapitated, buried alive, burned to death in wooden coffins, steel cages, were crucified or boiled to death in oil or water. What a disgusting debate!

Let me remind readers here that Ms. Geller has repeatedly stated EXACTLY THE SAME POSITION — that, while violent Jihad is deeply rooted in Muslim culture and is not an “aberration” or a “perversion” of Islam, it is just ONE among several interpretations of controversial passages and that it is wrong to condemn “all Muslims” or “Islam” in general. Besides, we need the non-violent, indeed anti-jihadi Muslims as allies, because only they can reform Islam from within. So Ali, and others, were right to steer questioners back on track to talk about what jiihadis do, not just “Islam.”

Secondly, the moderators were absolutely right to urge extreme caution in criminalizing any group for mere speech when they are NOT advocatking violence. Isn’t that also what this entire website of Ms. Geller’s is about? Free speech! And it is of no value unless it applies to EVERYBODY, even the disfavored views.

Bwahahahahahahahaha, what a load of bollocks:

‘Allah’s Apostle said, “I have been sent with the shortest expressions
bearing the widest meanings, and I have been made victorious with terror
(cast in the hearts of the enemy), and while I was sleeping, the keys of
the treasures of the world were brought to me and put in my hand.” Abu
Huraira added: Allah’s Apostle has left the world and now you, people, are
bringing out those treasures (i.e. the Prophet did not benefit by them). ”

I might point out to those unaware that the Bukari (Many spellings) is the
most respected hadith (being of the sunna) — considered canonical by most
muslims and the hadiths are considered to be as much of islam as the
koran……..

“n) Sunnah, Sunna, hadith ((Islam) the way of life prescribed as normative
for Muslims on the basis of the teachings and practices of Muhammad and
interpretations of the Koran)”
http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=sunna

I apologize for over-annotating, but the naive babbling about a “religion
of peace” galls me and it points to the unholy alliance of the left and
islam………….’

The Quran states that Mary (the mother of Jesus) and Myriam (sister of Aaron and Moses, 1,300 years apart were the same woman, all-knowing Allah was very confused.

Muslim scholars acknowledge this, remain confused and fail in their desperate attempts to justify this grave error. Their contradictory interpretations fail to help them to find a solution to this dilemma.

And FYI Mary had no brother named Aaron, sorry Muslim scholars.

Muslims = useful idiots

If you really believe in your “moderate”, “good”, “decent”, “honorable” muslums then why don’t you move to a f’ing muslum state? There are 56 such sh!ttystans to choose from. Put your untested faith to the test. Find out for yourself why Jews have been, for all practical purposes, ethnically cleansed from the entire muslum world.
