World Famous Art Gallery Covers Up Artworks After Muslims Complain They Are ‘Blasphemous’

73

Sharia oppression over free expression. Whenever Islamic sensibilities and those of non-Muslims differ, it is the non-Muslims who must give way. When in Muslim countries, non-Muslims should conform their behavior to Muslim sensibilities. When in non-Muslim countries, non-Muslims should conform their behavior to Islamic sensibilities. That is the dictum that Western elites and authorities increasingly follow.

Shame on Saatchi quislings. Covering up art is the opposite of art and its purpose.

Gallery Covers Artworks After Muslims Complain They Are ‘Blasphemous’

The Saatchi Gallery has covered up two pieces of artwork after complaints from Muslims that they were “blasphemous” because they contained text from the Quran.

Breitbart, May 6, 2019:

The pictures depict Islamic script including the Shahada, the Muslim declaration of faith, on top of nude images. The work, by an artist known as SKU, aimed to highlight the distinctions between Islamic extremism and the United States.

The paintings were part of an exhibition entitled Rainbow Scenes that finished on Friday, and offended Muslim visitors called for the pieces to be taken down, according to The Times.

Usama Hasan, head of Islamic Studies at the think tank Quilliam, claimed the pieces of art were “really dangerous,” alleging, “It’s The Satanic Verses all over again.”

The Satanic Verses, a novel written by Salman Rushdie which was critical of Islam, resulted in the Ayatollah of Iran issuing a fatwa (religious order) against Rushdie calling for his death. Rushdie spent years in hiding with police protection following the incident.

Fear about reprisals for so-called blasphemy against Islam in the West has led to multiple publications and media outlets to self-censor. This has come particularly in the wake of incidents such as the Charlie Hebdo massacre in which journalists were gunned down in France for publishing a cartoon of the Muslim prophet Muhammed.

Instances of self-censorship include The Times article that originally published this story, which has opted not to depict the artwork but rather has shown it only covered in cloth as it appeared in the gallery.

Noted author and sociologist Frank Furedi said he was “disappointed” by the decision to censor the artwork, calling it “a very dangerous [move] against artistic freedom.”

The Saatchi Gallery agreed to cover the work when the artist requested it, with a spokesman telling The Times, “It seemed a respectful solution that enables a debate about freedom of expression versus the perceived right not to be offended.”

The gallery has previously put works such as ‘Piss Christ’ — a crucifix submerged in urine — on proud display, flatly rejecting objections from Christians.

Other institutions have been criticised for covering up art. For example, the National Trust was criticised in November 2018 for covering up portraits and statues depicting men in order to promote female representation, while the Manchester Art Gallery also faced objections in February 2018 when it removed a famous Victorian painting featuring nude nymphs to “prompt conversation” about the male gaze in the era of #MeToo.

As nasty, and sick as it is, I archive all articles about that, and about everything else islam/muslim. So if someone doesn’t believe that, I have the proof. I just put the articles in there, and never look at them again. I know I have quite a few in there now.

Where are all the “artists”, and why aren’t they fighting back? I remember when they all banded together to defend the degenerate andres serrano when he placed a crucifix in a jar of urine and called it “piss Christ”. Any complainers were immediately labeled as bigots and against “artistic freedom”.

American photographer Andres Serrano (used his own urine for this too) stands beside a vandalized print of his photograph “Piss Christ,” depicting a crucifix immersed in urine, in Melbourne, Australia, in this Oct. 13, 1997 file photo. Another print of the same photograph was sold at auction in New York Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, for $43,700, about twice its pre-sale estimate, amid a ferocious debate over a controversial art exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Don’t cover-up the art. Museums and galleries are there to show, not hide, the art. Whatever you display gives us a view into the beliefs of the curator; urine on the cross? We get you now, buddy.

Allot of these feminazis want to breast feed and walk around topless in pubic as a RIGHT!
So why should they object to some breast nudity of pretty women in a painting?
OOOPS – that must be it! Feminazis are typically unattractive and by exposing themselves this is the only way they get attention. I’ve noticed pretty women don’t need to expose themselves to get attention.

Firstly it is forbidden to have paintings or artifacts in a muslim home so there was no reason for a muslim to be in the gallery in the first place.
Secondly it offends me greatly that I am being sold illegal halal meat, through takeaways, schools, hospitals etc and not only is there no respect for me, or the laws of my country but everyone, including the attorney general geoffrey Cox QC MP refusses to impliment the law.
Saatchi needs to grow some balls. If it offends then don’t go there.
Why don’t these people just tell these savages to bugger off out of the country if they don’t like it or the way we live.

If a gallery covers up artwork that is on display and part of the price of admission, ask for a refund and never support such places. I thought it was against their “religion” to recreate images, or something like that. If they are offended, why did they go there? To cause trouble, as always. Satan’s followers.

I have a better idea. When Muslims complain about something, such as artwork, politely say “Sorry you feel that way”, and expand your security, including guards armed with stun-guns, CO2 fire-extinguishers, and firearms. When Muslims attack, take them down immediately.

I was outraged enough to write this blog to my group. It’s rather long and of course you don’t have to read it. It was in response to The Times article that did not carry the actual painting that caused the fuss. Quilliam calls itself a ’Think Tank’ here in London, dedicated to presenting the ‘moderate’ side of Islam with broad hints that the satanic religion is reformable.

THE SAATCHI GALLERY CAVES IN TO MUSLIM PROTESTORS – SHAME, SHAME ON THEM
and shame on The Times for its cowardice in not showing the picture.

Usama Hasan, head of Islamic Studies at the think tank Quilliam, claimed the pieces of art were “really dangerous,” alleging, “It’s The Satanic Verses all over again.”

The mask has slipped. Quilliam, its name celebrates the founder of the first mosque in Britain https://en.wikipedia.org/wi… has long been the British left’s shining advertisement for ‘moderate’ islam, a living example of muslims with whom we, that is the left and gullible clergy, ‘can do business,’ a hope for a reformed islam.

Utter bullshit. They are a front. Read Maajid Nawaz’s self-serving biography in which he describes his conversion from active muslim (terrorist) to ‘moderate’ (underground). A grotesque narcissist, wheeled on whenever the BBC needs someone to show ’the moderate face of islam.’ There is no moderate islam. And Quilliam is no different in its goals than the MAB,* the MCB* or the Muslim Brotherhood.

This is another example of muslims softening up the the ground in preparation for ever-intruding sharia. If muslims don’t like what they see in art galleries then let there be ‘parental warnings’ on the doors of all art centres. No one forces them to come. In fact only a microscopic few of us WANT them to come because muslims would never be happier than gleefully torching the entire contents of the National Gallery.

”””””””””””””””’
(below I posted the same picture as the one Pam posted)

Contemptible cowardice on the part of The Times to not show what the news is about. Don’t let them kid you they won’t publish the cause of the protest for fear of hurting muslim feelings. Lies. They are terrified of physical harm.

More afraid here in London than they are in Helmand.

* Muslim Association of Britain and Muslim Council of Britain.

Post a sign prominently outside the gallery entrance that informs people that if they are
easily offended by religious or political commentary and pictures / cartoons that they should not enter the building ! Should anyone complain, they are to be reminded of the policy and the sign and either ignored or asked to leave the premises.

If the filthy islam0nazi do not frequent the gallery they will not be offended. They do not have to go there and that is the choice that FREEDOM allows us in the USA. I ——– islam because it offends all humans . The USA has the same COWARDLY CONGRESS that other nations have and they cower in fear or think they will not be enslaved if islam takes over. They will be the first to fall. Civil war with guerrilla troops will have to answer to the filth of islam . Far too many of the comments seem to be misconsruing what happened here.
The authorities did not force the removal, or cover-up, of the offending art.
They have no right to do that, in a free country. As Ms. Geller’s article correctly notes, in an exactly parallel situation involving the exact same gallery, the gallery owners told offended Christians to go pound sand. That, too, is their right.
So what is different here? THE GALLERY OWNERS THEMSELVES knuckled under to Muslim pressure and covered up the paintings Muslims considered blasphemous.
Why? No policeman or court told them to do this. They did it on their own nickel — when the same directors, at the same museum, held their ground against outraged Christian believers offended by works blasphemous to Christianity.
The only real difference I can think of is that offended Christians won’t go out and riot and kill people if they don’t get their way.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m a liberal. I’m all in favor of showing sensitivity to other cultures, other religions. But I don’t find double standards fair, either.
If these gallery owners think they are being “cutting edge” and “avant garde” and all that rot by displaying art that blasphemes Christianity, where is their courage, their consistency of their convictions as iconoclasts, their devil-may-care cool, when faced with the prospect of Muslim riots?
These fools are not radicals, not risk-takers, like the truly liberal iconoclasts of Charlie Hebdo were. Or like Salman Rushdie, or like Ms. Geller. They were not willing to put their lives where their mouths are. And so they caved. They are not cutting edge; they are bullies who pick only on the peaceful, and who, like all bullies, kowtow to the powerful who are willing to use violence against THEM.
If you want to stop “creeping sharia,” in a free country, it’s not the government’s job. It’s EVERY person’s job to stand up for what they believe in, or admit they are not being honest about what they REALLY believe in. Something to chew on.
