Flake Burns 21 Conservative Judicial Nominees To Protect Mueller

By Randy DeSoto, Western Journal, November 29, 2018:

The Senate Judiciary Committee canceled votes on 21 of President Donald Trump’s judicial nominees scheduled for Thursday after outgoing Republican Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona vowed to oppose them.

Flake, who is a member of the Judiciary Committee, pledged earlier this month that he would not support any nominees going forward until his bill shielding special counsel Robert Mueller from being removed by Trump or the attorney general received a full Senate vote.

“I have informed the majority leader I will not vote to advance any of the 21 judicial nominees pending in the Judiciary Committee or vote to confirm the 32 judges awaiting confirmation on the Senate floor until … S.2644 (the ‘Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act’) is brought to the full Senate for a vote,” Flake said on the Senate floor earlier this month.

On Wednesday, Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah rose in opposition to Flake’s bill being brought to the Senate floor by unanimous consent, which would bypass the requirement for it to be scheduled by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

McConnell blocked Flake’s attempt to bring his bill to a full vote earlier this month.

TRENDING: Jared Kushner To Receive Rare Honor from Mexican Government

McConnell said that there was no need for Flake’s legislation because there was “no danger” of Trump ending the probe.

“I don’t think any legislation is necessary,” he said. “We know how the president feels about the Mueller investigation, but he’s never said he wants to shut it down.”

In light of Flake’s refusal to support Trump’s nominees, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley announced the cancellation of a meeting scheduled for Thursday during which the senators were slated to consider six nominees to the federal circuit courts and 15 federal district courts around the country.

Completing this poll entitles you to The Western Journal news updates free of charge. You may opt out at anytime. You also agree to our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

The Judiciary Committee is made up of 11 Republicans and 10 Democrats, so Flake siding with the Democrats would mean all 21 nominees before the committee would receive negative referrals to the full Senate.

The more than 30 nominees who have already passed out of committee can be confirmed, but it would require Vice President Mike Pence to break the tie, assuming all remaining GOP senators vote to confirm and all Democratic senators and Flake vote against confirmation.

Flake joined with Democrats on Wednesday to filibuster judicial nominee Thomas Farr to serve on the federal bench for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

Pence stepped in to break the 50-50 tie in the procedural vote, allowing a confirmation vote to be tentatively scheduled for next week.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee tweeted in response to Flake’s stance that the senator “is a selfish narcissist who would stop one of the few things he actually could do for his country.”

Huckabee added, “His hate of @realDonaldTrump exceeds his sense of duty. His proposal is unconstitutional anyway. Good riddance! Go hide in an elevator!”

They are aided by the dumb , ignorant Left/Liberal loons coming out of colleges/schools run by pro-jihadi left/liberal loons

And by the time they realise their stupidity they get assaulted , gang raped or murdered like this couple its too late for them https://tinyurl.com/yahupccy

Problem is they enable evil while not able to see evil thanks to pro-jihadi left/liberal indoctrination in schools/colleges where real history of islam and America is no longer taught.

Flake chose to retire a year in advance because he knew he could not get re-elected. Flake then used his committee positions to hold the president and the people’s agenda hostage to his hate. He nearly succeeded in keeping Justice Kavanaugh off Supreme Court and now this! Flake is totally a tool of the hard left and should not be representing Arizona.
All persons serving in congress who announce their retirement more than 4 months in advance should at least be removed from all committee positions.

Flake is true to his name, “a flake.” Even if he voted with the obstructionist Democrats, and that resulted in a negative referral out of the Judiciary Committee, is not it true that with a Republican majority in the Senate, even without Flake’s support, they can still pass on the nominations?

Mark Steiner

All Flake did was delay the process, and buy the deep state more opportunity to attack the President.

Same here. McSally should have trounced the communist Sinema. Establishment republicans preferred McSally over Kelli Ward and fell short. Believe some of Dr. Ward’s faithful stayed home or wrote-in because of Mitch McConnell.

AZ is now awash with people from California and other liberal bastions (snowbirds) many of who eventually move to AZ and bring their liberal politics with them, such as Red for Ed and “dude, we are here!” I share your concerns.

Arizona has a Marxist replacing him, and with Romney replacing Hatch, who knows what will happen. But I’m afraid if the Republicans do not unite around Trump, Republicans winning national elections is over, if not already over.

I’m a senior citizen, voted for Republicans all of my life, but never again for a Bush, Romney, or McCain type. I won’t even waste a stamp sending in an absentee ballot.

Trump is exposing the Deep State, which I never took seriously until now. That is why he has to go. But you younger folks better understand, if Trump goes, so goes the country as we have know it……..and it ain’t going to be pretty. Just one old man’s thoughts…….

Exactly. I’ll go further. The country is gone. The Deep State thrives because America has spent at least two generations throwing God out of its institutions – including government and the church.
